The God of Jesters -
Chapter 293 - 5.07.1
Chapter 293: 5.07.1
"What?" Rashid, who had been unable to form proper words till now, was as surprised as I was.
"I give up this mission and support you against him, isn’t it a good offer?"
The world is unpredictable, a tenet that I have followed throughout my whole unlife.
Remira’s offer was not something one could easily ignore, nor did I expect her to make such a drastic offer to Rashid just to one-up me.
Smart of her to abandon the lives of her so-called companions in an attempt to mess me up. And she did, with her at the helm, I was not even privy to what the quest was. Blind to the quest whose failure might cost me, I was ten steps behind the two of them.
Not to mention, I lack powerful individuals under me who would be able to contend with current Remira. So even if I were to know what the quest was, it would be harder for me to face her alone.
’Good game Remira, this time you have exceeded my expectations of yours.’ It’s not like it was any higher to begin with.
A silver spoon woman with everything going for her, a hateable chosen from a hateable fellow.
"You will regret it, boy." These were my last words while the mark inside this corpse was burned by Remira’s flames. She did her best to not cause any further harm to Rashid’s servant, giving me nothing but pain in the process, keeping the body intact.
On the other hand, the other boy, I could see panic in his eyes, he knew that he might have bitten more than he could chew. Tired and helpless, he had turned into an accessory to his friend. And even now, he probably never understood why he was chosen, nor did I.
His blood, the Wandering Lamb was the reason?
No, at this point, I didn’t think so.
And edge, it was the edge I could gain at this very moment.
"Don’t you dare touch him?" Then a voice echoed in the dreamy void. Causing my body to tremble.
"I apologize," I said in this dream world, and after a while, the gaze that peered at me disappeared. But from this, I was able to know one more thing.
’I have been marked.’ She is watching me and is somehow capable of reading my thoughts that even the Horned Bastard couldn’t do. ’No, it shouldn’t be possible, my defenses are perfect... She probably predicted the conclusion I might come to.’
What was her plan here?
First, she made me curious about Henry and now she wants me to not touch him. ’It should be the other way around...’
She probably wishes that I, or the Yethel security keep the boy and his family safe, it’s why she let me become aware of his existence before giving me a warning.
’Things are turning a bit complicated in this small city. But that is beside the point. I need to find someone who could at least survive Remira.’
As for the mission itself? It wasn’t hard to keep a watch over Rashid and Remira after they were exposed in my eyes. All I need to do is activate the rat network that I set up a year ago and hope that some of the rats from that time are still alive because at the end of the day, rats live for barely two years.

"Wake him up." It wasn’t hard for Remira to find Crow, who was sleeping soundly without a care for the world.
His feet were entrenched in the ground, his head overlooking the night sky, while his body exuded a refreshing odor that was a bit bizarre considering all his injuries and the blood he was covered with.
Making the three wonder, just what kind of bloodline their companion has. A secret that even Sheva hadn’t told Remira, as she didn’t know much about it to begin with on the account of her always staying away when Max originally taught Crow about it.
"Wake up." Henry came forward and shook his body a few times, but in his dream calling out to a particular teacher. "Miss Liara, Its w..wrong.." He slapped the hand away of Henry, causing him as well as Rashid to wonder just what kind of dream he was seeing.
But those sorts of questions were not in Remira’s mind. She looked at the boy deeply, wishing to see into his head and know how much influence Jester had on him. But she can’t do that.
Although Rashid was the one to ask Remira to come here and help his friend, Remira was in no mood to do so, for she knew who Crow’s allegiance lied with. But denying the boy would do her no good. Not when she was still not sure of what kind of person Crow actually was.
Hence she said simple words like. "It’s better to not drag him further in this mess, so it would be better if you don’t speak about it to him." A sensible suggestion that anyone in her position would take.
And considering the kind of danger Remira was putting herself in by helping him. Rashid knew that this was for the best. With Remira here, there would be no need for additional help like Crow, who in spite of his strength was really bad at fights.
And if the illusion he saw and the legends about the ruins hold any truth, Crow would be a liability more than anything.
"Henry, wait a minute." Rashid suddenly held Henry back before he could wake Crow. "It’s better to part ways now, you don’t have to put yourself in danger anymore." At such words, Henry didn’t shout back, he just remained silent for a while. Before saying. "I... understand."
He sure did, even with how much of a fool he was, it was not hard for him to fathom that the current situation was out of his hand. He is a mere insect in front of the existences he met today. A meeting that would put a dent on his outgoing personality.
So he accepted Rashid’s suggestion without struggle, no, he felt a hint of relief, followed by guilt. This was the same as abandoning his friend, but with a Radiant Knight of Remira’s level, there would be not much he could provide to begin with.
No to mention, if the words that the corpse said held any truth, wouldn’t that mean that he just made enemies with the government?
He helped the enemy of the state and fought against a government agent whose job was to protect the common people?
Wasn’t he the criminal?
Wouldn’t his family suffer for his actions?
No, when thinking hard, he could still plead for innocence out of ignorance, or so Rashid had originally told him. Was it for a time like this?
Rashid had made up his mind since the moment Remira made her offer. She would help him achieve his goal and help him escape from this place, while Henry would go back to his old life.
"I had never expected for things to turn so violent." Rashid sighed with regret, the loss of life was much more than he expected.
Well, its not like he knew how many were able to escape, but if his direct subordinate is dead, then there is a high chance that none have survived till now. "Nor did I expect you to put your life at risk. All I needed was your support, as I feared what might happen there."
"There is no explanation needed Ras.. Maltorin?... I understand that things might not go ones way."Henry said while giving Remira a look and then turn toward Crow who shad fallen into a deep sleep. "You should go. I will take Crow to a hospital."
There were no goodbyes here, no one was in mood for such a thing and Remira was not in mood of staying in the open for long.
Although Jester won’t dare harm her until this little game was over, it didn’t mean he won’t try something more eccentric, or just find a way to keep an eye on them.
’He should have already started.’
Remira could instinctively feel it in the air, for it has turned heavy and there was a dirty smell in the air, followed by sounds of rats.
"For now, we leave the city and rest."
Although this can be dangerous for her, it was also an opportunity for her companions. If she didn’t think wrong, Jester would be busy here for a while, he won’t be able to move until this quest is over. Making Capital free from his influence.
"Guess, I have to request help from the two of them."

World is an unpredictable place. One day you are enjoying the rot pain in your body, the next moment, you are under magical constraints and kept in a cage like a slave.
That was the fate of Carp, who got captured by a couple of do-gooders who wished to put an end to me.
Dragged through the Duke’s palace, Carp could feel death here. Which made him shake in fear. Causing him to piss in the small cage. "This guy did it again."
"Scared shitless it would seem. I almost feel bad for him."
"Tower Master brought him here for a reason, I bet that he is not as innocent as he looks."
"Who knows, this guy doesn’t even appear mentally sound, she might just use this as an excuse to get herself a pardon."
"Shut Up, do you wish to die? Just bring him to the cell, we have to make him presentable for the prince tomorrow."
