Chapter 294: 5.07.2 I don’t believe it.
No matter how much talks of peace were publicized among the public, the Republic would always remain Cynark’s enemy.
Long before when the Republic of Yethel went by the name Sarvilla, it was already being eyed by the nobles in Cynark. The only issue that kept the land of Sarvilla free was its countless warlords and the businessmen who treated it like an open hub for trade across all regions.
And considering it was also a massive city-state with an open border policy and gigantic port, it became the go-to place for negotiations between neutral parties.
It was the business haven where even Nobles of Cynark had some investments in, making it a bizarre mixture of a city filled with riches, but danger as well.
As for the poor population that made up the majority of that wild land? No one cared for them. All the countries saw that Sarvilla was the place where they could make lots of money. Even labor was cheap there.
It was to maintain such a status quo, that countries kept each other in check, keeping the biggest danger to Sarvilla, which was Cynark in check.
Because they might be able to fight a few small countries on their own continent? But what about others? In this day and age of steamboats, it wouldn’t be hard for them to raid Cynark if a big battle were to start off. This was not like the old days anymore where only the mages and Knights held the power to turn the tides of battle.
And for a while, Cynark really acted like a cute neighbor. But their thirst for the land of Sarvilla was never abandoned.
This all changed with Ikaros Yethel though, the moment he merged the countless warlord families and Businessmen to form a functioning government. All hands were off.
With order, there would be restrictions.
And with Restrictions came taxes and limits to property ownership for foreigners.
Not to mention, Ikaros went a step ahead and started to start various government programs to help his people, who had been neglected till now, achieve a better lifestyle with time.
All of which was supported by the taxes he imposed on foreign businesses, a fact that many didn’t like, and slowly, in just a decade, they took out their investments, turning Yethel free from their influence, while also finally giving the rabid dog that was Cynark the chance it was always look for.
A war that should have ended long ago considering Ikaros was just a politician first and a mage second. He was nothing more than a figurehead in their eyes and for a young country like Yethel, it probably won’t survive an onslaught of soldiers and mages from their side.
A belief held by many military generals who had always seen triumphs all their life.
A belief was broken by Ikaros Yethel, who not only fought back with his ragtag army, but overpowered Cynark on multiple fronts, which in turn finally forced Cynark to send in their assassins.
Among which, one of their operations succeeded.
But his death had changed nothing in truth.
Abandoning the name of Sarvilla, The Republic of Yethel was formed in the wake of Ikaros’s death. Led by the very same warlord families and Businessmen that once leeched the land of its prosperity.
At the helm of which were the Radville Family, the house Ikaros married into.
On one of the highest peaks of Yethel, right next to a mountain spring was a Mage tower, led by the current head of the Radville family.
Who currently was in talks with a charming guest, whose lips parted in a short smile. "Seems like Jester is in deep trouble." The man spoke while rubbing one of his horns.
And the Lady also smiled. "Finally some good news, I never liked him." She said, before pausing and asking. "I wonder if Lord Emotion can reign in the Daemon of Incarnation if she were to harm the commoners."
"You don’t have to worry, she is not so foolish after what happened to her all those years ago."
To others, it might have been a secret, but Lord Emotion, although in deep sleep, still had ways to peer into the mortal realm and glean some information from it. "She won’t pull anything big considering it’s no secret that he is walking this land again."
The madman was hunted down by gods and sent to the world of mediocrity, where his soul was damned to slowly raze with time and turn to mediocrity himself and finally forget about his old life after countless reincations.
As even a daemon is not eternal in this world, nothing is.
Or so the gods had hoped, but the Prime Daemon of Dreams broke everyone’s expectations and entered this world again.
"I hope what the Lord says is true, otherwise I won’t be able to answer to my husband when my time arrives."
The two talked, the two laughed at Jester’s expense and then the two parted. This was just a small talk between the two on account of keeping the relations between the two parties strong.
The Matriarch of the Radville family was the true leader of the Republic of Yethel and the Horned man was one of the earliest gods to awaken on this land.
Both had something the other wanted and with Jester as the link, they both came together to keep Yethel safe and Lord Emotion entertained.
And Lord Emotion was a bastard as Jester always said, for he enjoyed Jester’s current misery a lot.

"Something powerful just looked at me?" I wondered, before looking to the sky. Few were capable of such a feat, and even fewer who were aware of my existence, and among those that were, they never treated me like an insect, as I was not as special in their eyes nor as problematic.
Which is good.
Being diminished by such beings gave me a certain edge and turned me into an underdog.
Which is what I liked the most about powerful people.

"A pawn of that Jester?" The Prince of Cynark, Duke Wortham looked at the small little mutated man sitting in the cage, then his eyes turned toward Anna. "Is this what you found on your journey?" He wondered, showing some disappointment.
The mage report came to him and there was virtually nothing important in the odd thing’s mind, it had been completely friends for some reason and not through physical means or contract magic, but it appeared as if the man was always the same, born with low intellect.
If there was something odd about him, it would be the curse energy hidden in his body. A curse wielder?
A curse wielder whose mind got corrupted by the power of the curses he used, it was common to see among their kind. As for how long ago this happened, the Prince can’t be certain.
"He is among the ones we found, capable of speech when we initially captured him and holding a bizarre kind of curse that gave us trouble even while we fought him together."
"Anna, I will ignore the part where you worked with Kassandra for so long without informing us of her position. But I can’t overlook such absurdity, he is a mere adept, speaks words that make sense, or is ready to be demoted and under custody." The prince was sitting with his usual kind face, but his eyes carried no mercy in them.
He was angered by the fact that Anna worked with a criminal for so long. A criminal that has caused them so much harm, a criminal that helped the terrorist achieve their goal.
No matter what her reason was, it doesn’t absolve her from her crimes.
But for now, for the bigger picture, the Prince was ready to overlook it.
However, he can only overlook if there is good proof that exists and the one Anna brought him was not the good kind.
"As absurd as it sounds, this is reality. The man in the cage held the power to hold us back and this is just one of his pawns."
"And with my time with Kassandra and the information I had been able to learn about him, he is dangerous. As much dangerous as Marshall Maxim Maisel had said in the reports, but barely anyone believed him during that time."
At the mention of the report, the prince finally showed some emotion while he creased his forehead.
This man again, or was it a man? He didn’t understand.
The being mentioned in the reports was a demon, but the Radiant Church couldn’t do a thing about him.
His name once again came up during the Durum incident, but nothing again, He escaped without harm.
Though it was harder for him to believe someone like that existed int his world. And if he did, why is he free? Why hasn’t the churches dealt with him yet?
Why do they all stay silent?
"Have you met him yourself? Or seen his trace of any kind?"
