Chapter 276: 5.02.3 The Substitute teacher.
Baldar has become easily irritable, which is unlike the fake persona he used to carry himself with. Of course, there was no need for him to put on an act to keep his unstable boss at bay, who had a different way of thinking by a long shot.
"It seems stronger as days go by." He spoke to himself when left alone while opening a small diary and seeing the portrait of Sheva who still held a genuine smile on her face.
A photo from her training years, before the battle and during the time when she was finally able to eat to her fill. "I guess, the one-year time limit for this job was not because I was incapable in his eyes... but that is the amount of time I have left."
He recalls the day when Jester spoke about him finally having his own team and how he is just an acting head while a small dwarf who didn’t even know anything would take over his position in a year or so.
And it was for that purpose, Jester had asked him to train that little dwarf. A dwarf he had come to hate due to him exuding the same personality traits as someone else he knows, someone he hates and someone he wishes would acknowledge his hard work.
It’s why he hates the dwarf.
’I was being childish. That wasn’t like me.’ Under some self-reflection, Baldar was finally able to calm his shaken heart, before he started to read the report, including the little bits of pieces that included the activity that his successor was doing out in this small city.
’He met them about two hours ago, but I didn’t see him come to meet me at all...Good choice.’ If Crow were to run to him in order to notify him of what he had found, then things would have turned troublesome.
Remira for one was infamous for her dog-like nose. And she didn’t feel one bit ashamed of acting like a hunting dog while pursuing her targets the moment she got the trace of a smell.
And she has obtained that trace just now, she has smelled Crow and it would highly likely that she might follow him.
’But she won’t make any huge moves in this city, this is enemy territory and she has no diplomatic immunity here.’
Killing here right now would be the most optimal choice which might cause some unneeded sacrifices if one doesn’t plan properly, with a high chance of collateral damage.
None of which Baldar could accept.
He might agree to it in a place other than Yethel, but due to his upbringing, he won’t let such harm come to his country.
’Assassination is impossible on a Knight of her caliber, and I can’t ask Team One for help here.’ Team one, his old friends that used to follow him around like little dogs. They were one of the strongest cards in Jester’s sleeves and due to this, they had the luxury of doing anything they wished as long as they fulfilled Jester’s request from time to time.
Meaning, under enough interest, they might just go and help Baldar deal with Remira without any worry as well.
The only reason he didn’t do so was simple. "No... Owl... he hates her."
Owl hated Sheva and he never hid this hatred of his from Baldar. Although Owl always teased him about killing Sheva if not for Jester’s order, Baldar always knew that Owl was serious.
’I can’t let him come here... he would probably target Sheva.’
Frustration and thoughts of yesteryears came to his mind before he opened his drawer and took out a notebook with the title volume 11 on it.
"Never let Team One come close to Sheva, the reasons are as mentioned." Then he started to jot down the reasons he could recall, putting in references as well as the detailed history behind the reason he had been able to find till now.
A book whose sole purpose was to act as a memory bank for him, who was slowly losing his original memories and turning into something else.
As he thought, this way, he might forget the past, but the books won’t ever forget. And as long as he kept reading and repeating the details in the books as a play in his head, he might be able to remember who he used to be, what he used to be, and why he did things the way he did.
It was his everything, it was the lost part of his life that might never come back to him ever again.
And all of it is written in a script lost in time, which only he can read and understand.

"Hah, just stay put? In this situation?" How can I stay put in such a situation?
Although I know that the psycho Knight won’t come and harm me, one shouldn’t overlook a simple matter.
Humans might be simple creatures, but they are highly irrational and fickle. Who knows, after not doing anything in the market, she might just change her mind and rush here all in an attempt to take me hostage?
No, there was Sheva as well, that giant woman probably won’t let that be happier. She has a soft spot for me in her heart. So she would try to reason with the Knight, but I still can’t ascertain what the relationship between the two was.
At least, if I were in the Knight’s place, I would never believe a word Sheva says and would only treat her as baggage useful to obtaining information on my enemy, which would be Jester.
"Hah, I hope that lady Sheva doesn’t do such a thing to me... things are finally getting fun."
Unlike what the Boss has ordered, I won’t be staying still and going with life the usual way. This is what I have been looking for all this while.
This was the opportunity I had been waiting for since that day. ’I need it to happen naturally.’ With that thought in mind, I waited for the new day.
Or at least, I waited for a day and more. Focusing on my training in my free time and watching my master die as time goes by.
’Hope his death will be peaceful.’ I prayed in my heart before it was time for me to go to the school again.
A plan had been cooked up in my head. A plan where there won’t be any scrutiny from my boss and he might even support me on my goal to have a fulfilling adventure.
"Hey, isn’t it that guy?.. The Perv."
"Yeah, no wonder he got bullied by Jared."
Oh yeah, I forgot about this bit. The weird way they looked at me was a bit unsettling, but it would seem that I had created some useless trouble for me.
"Hey, just stop guys. We all know what kind of person Jared is. Don’t believe in rumors started by him." It was then Henry came to me and ended the rumors before they could become big. Only in my class though, Jared was in Class B of high school, the class was mostly filled with delinquents with no hopes in scholarly subjects.
And in that class, this rumor would prosper as much as my old self had intended. Of course, considering there had been a change in my plans, I can’t let the past me ruin it for the present me.
I need to play cards right this instant.
’There is no Rashid here at the moment, this is the time.’
So, after Henry suppressed the class and acted like a hero in front of his girlfriend who protected a bullied kid, I took him to the side and informed him of what I saw.
"You saw those two?"
"Yes, in the Fish market..."
"Fuck, I should have gone with you."
"Ye.. yes... al.. Also.. The woman and her Bodyguard didn’t held... any weapons."
"..."
At this point, yesterday’s fight suddenly popped up in Henry’s mind, before he looked around and wondered. "Sigh, we fought for nothing yesterday." His eyes looked around, but after finding no signs of Rashid. "Guess he is still angry and didn’t come to school."
’Oh, I think the reason is something else.’
"Wh.. Why not go to his house after school?"
"Don’t you have your father to take care of?"
"We.. we have a nurse at home, don’t worry."
I needed chess pieces and Henry and Rashid seemed the perfect ones for this job. They will be my shield and my precious pieces that will come handy in the future a lot.
Not to mention Rashid is an Adept Knight and might show himself useful for the upcoming adventure that is forming in my mind.
The only issue is, just how big this adventure might become and why it happened right in this city.
Because one has to face it, this was too much of a coincidence that a month after leaving Pulgasari, we would meet here again in different circumstances so soon.
Someone was either manipulating the things from the dark, or there was something in the city attracting those two here.
"Your old Teacher Missus Lilyfeld, will be absent this month due to medical issues, so Professor Kaarath will be your substitute for the next few weeks. Be kind to him, otherwise, you already know what he does to disrespectful students."
At the name of Kaarath, everyone sat back in their seats in silence, and I followed their pace, curious over why such a sudden change in tone of this class.
Who was this man? And why was everyone so scared of him, which included Henry?
