Chapter 87: Chapter 86 - Albus, Butler

Ever since he had been told what had happened, Caliste was confused every time he landed his eyes on the sword. He had not touched it since he learned of what happened. He even talked with Liana about it, and she seemed to be saying that the sword was a way for the heavens to take control of his mind.

Caliste wasn’t sure what to think.

All he knew was that from the glimpses of the memories he received from the moment he held the sword, he had never felt so powerful... ever. Even in his past life, he had never achieved this strength; he felt as if nothing could hurt him.

’Maybe the heavens aren’t happy with my actions?’ Caliste wasn’t sure what was happening, and he had no way of finding out.

That’s why, right now, he was keeping the sword safe inside a thick cloth, making sure that his hand would not even come into contact with it.

There was a slight envy of grabbing it from his hands, but he managed to calm himself down from doing so.

He was currently on the way back to the Demon King’s Castle, as Ava and Aleia wanted to keep an eye on him for a bit to make sure that everything was fine.

Caliste had tried to get out of it, but when he saw the glare that his mother shot him, he knew that refusing wasn’t an option at the moment.

The ride back was quite strange; everyone was quiet.

Ava was sad. After all, one of her sons had died. But even then, she seemed somewhat fine mentally. It was most likely because it had been a long time since she had stopped considering Canna her own son. Nevertheless, while things were silent, the same couldn’t be said of Liana, who was currently mocking Caliste as much as possible in his mind.

’You were breastfeeding from your sister and mother for years?! Hahahaha! What kind of person even does that!’ She kept mocking him. ’You even tricked your sister into drinking her breast milk... how pathetic really are you? I never thought you had this side to you. You’re a lot more horny than I remembered.’

Caliste just stayed silent as he tried to block her out. It had been more than an hour since she had started, and he couldn’t handle it anymore. He decided to block off the noise coming from her and focus his mind on what he would have to do next.

The first thing on the agenda was to go to the human kingdom since that would be where he would get a big idea of what exactly was going down, and that was also where he would get answers from Alek, who was the one who had orchestrated the betrayal.

Caliste could feel himself getting closer to his goal of revenge. But to achieve it, he would need to become much stronger than he currently was. The advantage that he had gained over the years wouldn’t be enough when dealing with Alek. Even if he wasn’t the strongest, he was still a very powerful human whom Caliste had approved of in the past.

And if he really was immortal, like Caliste believed, then there was a chance that killing might be very tricky.

That’s why he would be using his time back at the Demon King’s Castle, under the supervision of his mother and sister, to work on Excalibur and find a possible way to control it. He needed to make sure that he would not lose his mind when using it.

"Once we get back to the Demon King’s Castle, I want to try using the sword again."

Ava and Aleia’s eyes widened right away, as Caliste hadn’t talked to them about his plan. He had just thought of it, after all.

"Absolutely not."

"Are you crazy?!"

Obviously, the two of them were very much against it.

But it was definitely understandable based on everything that had happened. If Caliste lost control, they had no idea if they would be able to take the sword away from him.

"I-I need to do it..."

Caliste felt like Excalibur was the missing piece that he had always been looking for.

"You don’t understand... the feeling of holding this sword is unlike anything I have ever felt."

"I don’t understand, and I don’t want to know."

"The feeling of power as if nothing can oppose you. The feeling of being the strongest... it’s one of the best feelings in the world."

Even with glimpses of his memories, Caliste had felt the power, and even now, he missed it. This power would be the key to everything. That sword that the Demon King had given him was the key. He needed to master it before anything happened to him.

"But we can’t. If the same thing happens, we won’t be able to take the sword away from you. Last time we were three, and we barely managed to... We were lucky that Rachel was there. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to get you back. We would have lost you for good. You don’t understand just how different you were. You looked at us as if we were monsters that you were prepared to kill if we ever approached you."

"And I’m sorry for that. But I still need to master Excalibur. It’s the key to this whole problem."

Ava frowned. "What problem are you even talking about?! You’re the son of the Demon King. No one will ever touch you. You don’t need to become the strongest; your father exists. Just keep calm, and everything will be fine."

Caliste shook his head and stayed silent.

He didn’t even want to argue. He would do it whether they agreed or disagreed. They couldn’t understand what his purpose was and what he wished to happen.

Ava noticed this change in behavior, and she didn’t like it. She took a mental note to keep an eye on Caliste once they returned.

Half an hour later, they returned to the estate, with Ava now the one holding onto the piece of cloth, not trusting Caliste with it around.

The way he spoke about it was troubling, and she wanted to make sure that nothing would happen to it.

But then, as they reached the entrance of the manor, it wasn’t a maid who was standing at the door. It was a man, wearing a uniform similar to that of the maids. However, it was for a man; this man was a butler.

’Since when did we have a butler?’

That question was quickly answered.

"Who the hell are you? We don’t have a butler. Leave right away or die trying," Ava said without any hesitation. She wasn’t in the mood to play around.

The butler quickly bowed toward the three of them.

"I’m sorry to have come on such short notice. However, my presence was requested especially by the Demon King. He told me one of his sons would need my help."

"Help with what?" Caliste asked with a frown.

The butler shrugged. "Who knows? I cannot read the mind of the supreme leader."

Caliste looked at the butler and frowned. He analyzed him from head to toe and shook his head as he continued to look in his direction.

This man was no ordinary butler.

Caliste felt it. Ava felt it. Aleia felt it.

He was powerful enough to handle all three of them at the same time.

’Did he send him here because he knew I would need help with Excalibur?’ Caliste frowned. ’Why is the Demon King helping me?’

Caliste wasn’t naive enough to think that it was because he cared. He knew there was something else. However, he couldn’t put his finger on it. After all, he had just killed his brother... it should have enraged the Demon King, but here he was, trying to send help to Caliste.

"What do you need help with, young master?" the butler asked as he bowed once more, this time only toward Caliste, acknowledging him as his master.

"What’s your name and how strong are you?"

"I’m Albus. As for how strong I am, I’m powerful enough to handle any attacks that might be coming from you."

"Mhm... how well-versed are you in demonic arts?"

"I’m decent."

Caliste could see that was a lie. This man wasn’t decent; he was excellent. He might even be a rare talent in those arts.

Caliste had ignored demonic arts for a long time, and he knew that if he wanted to deal with the Demon King and Alek, then he would need everything at his disposal. There were no exceptions.

Caliste closed his mouth, thinking. "You’ll do the trick. Come with me; we will start our training."

Albus nodded and immediately began following him. Caliste didn’t ask for the sword just yet, as he would not be starting his training with it. He had a new idea; it was time for him to master a few demonic arts.
