Chapter 85: Chapter 84 - Cold, Emotionless.
Caliste shone in the sky as he continued to hold down the sword, pure confidence exuding from him.
Everyone looked at him in absolute awe as he continued to rise in the skies with the power of the sword. His eyes were tightly shut; it was the sword doing all the work even now.
The power being exuded from Caliste was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before.
Now that he was holding onto the sword, the person who could be said to be an ant was no longer Caliste. It was Canna, who looked at his brother in absolute awe, his jaw dropping in the process.
There was complete silence inside the Dwarven Territory as everyone took a peek at the growing light ascending in the sky.
Liana, who was inside Caliste’s mind, could hardly believe what was happening right now.
She could feel the high amount of energy that had surged from the sword, and she couldn’t believe that a sword could have ever caused such a thing. Caliste’s strength had maybe doubled... or even tripled just by holding onto the sword.
That’s when Liana realized that this sword, Excalibur, had been made for Caliste and no one else. She could vividly remember when Alek had used the sword, and he had never managed to have such an effect by simply holding onto it. Thorin had made the sword with Caliste in his mind, and it showed now more than ever before.
"Caliste... try using the Molten Core energy on the sword," Liana said inside his mind.
However, Caliste didn’t respond; he was too focused on the sword to remember anything else. Now that he had it in his hands, it was as if a missing part of himself had finally found its way back to him.
The anger that he had previously felt was gone. His mind was now pure and peaceful, as if nothing had even happened in the last few minutes.
Thousands of kilometers away, the Demon King smirked inside his huge castle.
"You really were Caliste... ever since I saw you ten years ago, I had my doubts. But it seemed like I really was right." The Demon King burst out laughing like a maniac. "You managed to be reborn one hundred years into the future."
It had been a very long time since he had felt such a thing, but the Demon King started to feel a slight tinge of excitement in his stomach. If he really wanted to, he could go to the Dwarven Territory right away, but... he didn’t want to do that. He wanted to see just how far Caliste would go in this new life of his.
"Mhm... you’ll be hard to deal with now that you have this sword."
The Demon King wasn’t stupid. He knew the risks of handing the sword back to Caliste, but he couldn’t care less. He was so powerful now that he knew nothing would be able to stop him at any time.
If Canna was an ant to Caliste, the Demon King was a whole universe that could trample all the ants in the world.
Nevertheless, the Demon King was excited to have finally found his rival once again.
"Canna. Try attacking him."
The Demon King decided to see just how powerful Caliste had become from all this.
"B-But father... I might die."
The Demon King smirked. "Then so be it. If you don’t do what I say, then you WILL die. I’ll make sure of it."
He could see Canna gulp through his crystal ball as he gathered his courage and began flying toward Caliste’s direction as fast as he could.
However, Caliste felt it, one of his eyes opening.
"Mhm... it was nice knowing you, son."
The Demon King recognized that smile.
The old Caliste, the one he had fought against for many years, was back. That arrogant gaze where nothing could ever hurt or kill him. He had seen it often in the eyes of this very man.
With a quick movement of Excalibur, Caliste cut off Canna’s head without the slightest hesitation.
Excalibur, a sword with an intent of its own.
A sword that had been personally made for Caliste to slay the Demon King.
The sword that would be the key to this whole thing.
The Demon King had been stupid enough to give it back to Caliste.
-Thump!
Canna’s head rolled on the ground as his body did the same, the eyes of everyone widening.
It had been so quick. No one had even been able to see what had happened. Caliste had moved with such grace that everyone was amazed. They didn’t even notice that he had killed someone at first.
However, Ava surely did, as she saw her dead son fall from the sky at a rapid pace.
"CANNA!" She screamed at the top of her lungs as she ran toward his body, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.
She had not seen her son for years. However, she still loved him dearly... She knew that the Demon King had corrupted him. She only hoped that the same wouldn’t happen with Caliste, but now that he had killed his own brother, there was no way to tell what would happen next.
"C-Caliste, what did you do?" she muttered as tears continued to fall onto the headless body of her son. "W-Why did you kill him?"
Caliste looked down without the slightest emotion. He didn’t look angry or happy; he simply looked as if he had accomplished his job. He looked like he had completed what he had needed to do.
"Because the sword told me to," Caliste answered coldly without any hesitation.
The sword was made to kill demons.
Even now, Caliste was struggling to resist the sword’s intent, which was telling him to kill his mother and sister. Nevertheless, he managed to control it somewhat. After all, he would never touch his mother or his sister, even if they were demons. They were the ones who had given him everything.
"W-What did you say?"
"The sword told me to kill him. It felt that he was trying to attack me, and my body moved on its own to defend myself."
Ava had no choice but to widen her eyes because of the cold tone in Caliste’s voice. There was not the slightest indication that he was grieving. He truly looked as if his brother’s death had been inevitable for the greater good.
Even Aleia, who looked from far away, was lost looking at her little brother; she could hardly believe what was happening.
"Give me that sword," Ava said with a frown.
"No."
Caliste wouldn’t be giving up this sword for anything in the world.
Ava was currently blaming the sword for everything right now. After all, ever since Caliste had held onto it, he seemed to have changed right away.
"Mother... brother was evil. It’s not the sword’s fault. I also wanted to kill him."
Caliste had no problems saying that, as he could see his mother break down even more following those words.
They were hard for a mother to hear.
"D-Don’t say things like that..."
But Caliste truly no longer cared.
Now that he held the sword, he felt as if his revenge could now be possible.
"I’m sorry, Mom. You’ll understand later why I did this..." Caliste said, as he still couldn’t admit or reveal his real identity to anyone. He needed to keep it hidden under all scenarios.
Liana, who was watching this from within, wasn’t sure what to think. Caliste had killed one of his own, an evil person, but it was also his brother. It was a very complicated situation, and what worried her the most was Caliste’s behavior. She had never seen him act this cold and collected, even after killing someone he hated.
Even as she tried to feel his emotions, it was as if he didn’t have any. There was only a purpose now, which was to kill the Demon King.
’J-Just what the hell is that sword?!’ Liana thought with a frown.
Caliste looked around himself with a frown, not even looking at his brother anymore. "Mhm... where is the human kingdom? I need to pay a visit to someone."
Caliste no longer cared about the whole situation as everyone looked at him as if he was no longer the person they once knew. Even Ava and Aleia could hardly recognize what was happening. They couldn’t recognize the person they had spent more than 18 years with.
Ava frowned. ’It’s all that sword’s fault
"We need to get that sword from him. It’s corrupting his mind."
While those words seemed crazy, everyone standing nearby slowly nodded their heads as they had never seen Caliste act this way before. There was definitely something weird here. The sword was definitely playing with his mind.
"We need to get it away from him! It’s playing tricks on his mind."
Caliste frowned as he saw a small group of people form in front of him. "Hmpf, you really think you can defeat me? You don’t know the slightest thing about me..."
