Chapter 66: Chapter 65 - Rachel
Caliste hadn’t talked to anyone since he had met with Liana. He hadn’t gone to see Fleur to discuss it with her. If he did, he knew there was a chance she would ask to come with him, and Caliste wasn’t interested in such things. He also didn’t want to wait until the weekend to take on a quest from the Academy.
He wanted to leave right away to find Liana and discover where she had gone.
There was only one problem.
Albert Siglius.
Why was he currently surveying everyone entering and leaving the Academy?
Caliste saw him from far away, knowing he would be recognized in an instant. Caliste put a small hood over his face to hide his identity, but he doubted that would work. Nevertheless, he tried it.
He walked toward the exit with confidence, trying his best not to look suspicious. Albert was also currently taking care of students returning from their quests.
’Wait... quests.’
Caliste began to think about it.
Did he really need to wait until the end of the week to take on a quest? Couldn’t he take one right away? Wouldn’t that work perfectly?
With that in mind, he turned and headed toward the quest billboard.
Caliste analyzed the quests located in the Dwarven Territory and had some criteria for the quest. The first one was that the harder the quest, the better, since it would require him to spend more time in the Dwarven Territory, giving him more time to investigate everything about Liana’s last disappearance.
That’s why all of the [Easy] quests were quickly eliminated, as were the intermediate ones. He didn’t believe they were hard enough based on their descriptions; it would take at most a day or two to complete them. Caliste needed much more time than that.
He then turned toward the [Hard] and [Hell] difficulty quests, which were the real challenges here.
The quest in the Elven Territory could not be compared to those on the billboard, since Caliste wouldn’t be going to the Dwarven Territory with the daughter of the Dwarven King.
In total, there were three quests in both difficulty categories. There was one in the [Hell] difficulty category and two in the [Hard] category.
All of them looked like decent choices for Caliste as he began analyzing them with great care. He wanted to make sure that he wouldn’t be making a mistake by choosing the wrong quest.
[Repair the Core!]
[Difficulty: Hard]
[Description: Deep within the heart of the Dwarven Territory, there is a core of molten lava that powers the entire city. However, recently it seemed to have lost heat. Parts of the city are randomly losing power at any given time of the day. The dwarves have tried to investigate; however, they were not able to find much except some strange dust near the core of molten lava. Your job is to fix the core as quickly as possible.]
[Rewards: Talk to the headmaster]

[Miners Missing!]
[Difficulty: Hard]
[Description: A few weeks ago, the dwarves found a vein that was hidden for many years by debris. However, something is strange about it. The tunnel is covered in magic runes, and every night, miners in that area disappear as if they had never been there. Find the problem and fix it.]
[Rewards: Talk to the headmaster]

[Unknown]
[Difficulty: Hell]
[Description: Talk to the Dwarven King]
[Rewards: Talk to the Dwarven King]
Out of the three quests, the Hell difficulty quest was definitely the most suspicious one since there were literally no details about it. However, it wasn’t the one that had caught Caliste’s eye. After all, the quest [Miners Missing!] seemed a lot more relevant to his search for Liana.
A cave filled with magic runes.
It was not something that could be caused by nature. It had to be done by an individual, which meant there was a chance that Liana was hiding inside that cave. At least, that’s what Caliste thought as he grabbed the quest from the wall, missing one key detail about it.
[Recommended strength for the quest: 4th Year Students Only.]
Still, without knowing such a thing, Caliste started heading toward the exit of the Academy with a smile as he removed the hood from his face and walked toward the small desk where Siglius was located, his brazen nature showing even now as he sat down on a chair that seemed minuscule compared to him.
Caliste handed Siglius a piece of paper. He straightened his back as Siglius started reading the quest. The look on his face changed a few times as he read until he finally raised his head and looked into Caliste’s eyes with some uncertainty.
"Are you confident about this?"
Caliste nodded right away. "Yes, sir. I can do it."
"Mhm..." He hesitated for a moment. "Are you a mage? I can’t remember."
"It’s not my specialty, but—"
"Then you need help from someone. Wait here."
Siglius stood from his seat without saying another word as he headed to "call" someone from the Academy.
Caliste considered leaving right away, but he was a little curious about who he would bring to help him out. He wasn’t quite sure who it would be. That’s why he decided to wait, as he could always refuse the help that Siglius would be bringing.
But then, a beautiful woman with piercing red eyes and long, white hair appeared before them.
It was someone that Caliste strangely recognized. He had seen her before; however, he could not quite put his finger on it. But then, his eyes widened as he knew exactly who she was.
She was the first seat of the Academy, the strongest student in the school.
Caliste had difficulty understanding why Siglius had asked for her help out of all the students in the Academy. It made little sense. She was way too strong to take on such a quest, at least, that’s what Caliste believed. However, as he noticed the stare he got from Rachel, it seemed that he would be stuck with her.
