Chapter 152: 152

After reaching with her consciousness into her spirit domain, Michelle was able to pull out the sealing book. She stared at it for a long while, not really sure about what she should do next. She had never tried to seal anything or even used a sealing tool.

She was nearly certain that to use the sealing book, she would need specific spells, which would most probably require her to summon her spirit energy.

But that was something she couldn’t do. She had to hide the fact that she possessed Spirit Soul Blood, and using her spirit energy would expose it. She had already taken the risk once because of her recklessness and forgetfulness, and she wasn’t going to repeat that mistake again.

That made her feel like she was driven into a corner. The only possibility that was left in her mind was to try to look somewhere else for a place where she could set free the twelve thousand souls back into their bodies. But she highly doubted there would be another place nearby, big enough to store twelve thousand soulless people.

Watching Michelle closely, Alexander lifted a brow when he saw the sealing book in her hands. He had never expected to see something like that in her possession.

"Are you planning to seal up this place?" he asked with his signature smile. He knew the answer would be "no", but he still asked.

Michelle didn’t respond at first and opened the sealing book, still not having decided what to do.

Then, she spoke: "You should know that if I were to seal something, it would be either the water or the power of the Shadow Master. Not this place." She hadn’t decided what to do just yet when she said that, but she was already very much against going to search for a new place.

Michelle wasn’t pressed into hurrying, but she still wanted to take care of everything in the lower realm as soon as possible and go straight to the upper realm so she could once again use her spirit energy. And for that, she had to cultivate for a while in the second-best academy there.

But there was one obstacle blocking her way. To get accepted into the academy, one had to go through some tests, and most of them tested the potential students’ spirit energy. In such tests, Michelle would expose her Spirit Soul Blood. And that would subject her to a hunt from powerhouses, wanting to either destroy or capture her.

Michelle decided not to think about that at the moment. She was still in the lower realm and had other problems to take care of. Like the evaporation at hand, or the Sloan family, which she hadn’t even started with.

Turning her attention back to the sealing book she opened in her hands, her gaze swept over the first page. There she saw something like a black stain covering most of the page. Over the stain were some golden, ancient runes Michelle couldn’t comprehend. She had never seen runes like that.

When Michelle turned the page, she couldn’t see anything else.

Seeing that, she guessed that the black "stain" on the first page was a picture of Nyxaroth in his beast form, and the runes were the seal which had kept him under the control of the book until he had ended up in a contract with Michelle.

After that, though his soul was still partly connected to the sealing book, he regained his freedom, with the only limitation that he couldn’t disobey or harm Michelle. But he wasn’t planning to do that, so he didn’t mind the contract.

But there was one thing Michelle wasn’t sure about with her contract with Nyxaroth.

If she broke the seal the book had over him, would she lose the contract she had with him? She wanted to know, but she was also worried that it would really happen and she would lose Nyxaroth.

As to every other one of her contracted beasts, she had grown fairly attached to him and considered him a dear friend. She didn’t want him to suddenly disappear from her life.

With a shake of her head, Michelle threw her thoughts about Nyxaroth to the back of her head and stared at the blank page of the sealing book. She had no clue as to how to seal up either the water or the Shadow Master’s power in the soil.

So she just kept staring at the white sheet in thought. She had a contract with the book, but it was completely useless to her.

She could barely even feel a connection with the book.

That realization made her frown. Why was it that with her contracted beasts, she could feel a strong connection with them, but when it came to the book, she could barely feel the existence of the book or the contract?

Was it because she had left the book in her spirit domain for too long? Or was it because the book was a contracted item while the others were contracted beasts? So the contract was acting differently?

Maybe the contract was damaged...

But that was highly unlikely. She had felt the same connection with the book since the moment the contract was formed. Nothing had ever changed. Did that mean that if the contract was weak or damaged, it was like that from the start? Most probably yes.

So Michelle decided to think in that direction.

Closing her eyes, she remembered the moment when she had formed the contract with the sealing book. Rivenaar had brought it in front of her, and she just dropped one of her blood into it. Was the way she had formed the contract wrong?

Did she drop too little of her blood? Or was that a wrong way to contract an item?

The questions flooded Michelle’s mind, but she had no answers. She had no clue what to do. She didn’t even know how strong a normal contract with an item should have been.

Not having any clues, Michelle decided to use a direct approach. Losing some more of her blood wouldn’t harm her, so she decided to use it. She wanted to see if it could strengthen the contract.

So she pulled her ring off her index finger, and it transformed into a small knife. The ring was her shifting weapon.

Watching from the side, Alexander could basically see the wheels turning in Michelle’s brain, but he didn’t say anything. He wanted to see how far she would be able to take it.

He wasn’t surprised when Michelle’s ring transformed into a knife. Weapons like that were extremely common in the middle, upper, and heavenly realms. But he wasn’t quite sure what Michelle wanted to do with the small knife.

That was until he saw her bring the blade to her wrist and cut deep. Instantly, blood started spraying out and soaked the book.

And as Michelle was hoping, the book started absorbing the blood.

That drew a slight smile on her face. She kept watching her blood get sucked into the pages of the sealing book. After a while, she started to feel lightheaded, but she didn’t bandage her wound because the book was still hungry for more blood.

It was only after Michelle fainted and fell to the hard, wet ground that the book stopped sucking her precious blood and Michelle’s extreme healing abilities could surface. When the book was relentlessly sucking at the blood, the suction also suppressed the healing abilities, so the wound didn’t close up. But with the suction gone, the cut could easily heal like it was never there in the first place.

Alexander wasn’t surprised when Michelle fell and fainted. He had expected as such. He calmly walked over to her and sat down on the ground next to her helpless body. He reached out his hands and lifted Michelle onto his lap so she wouldn’t keep lying on the damp ground.

He knew that Michelle was strong and resilient, and not for a while already, he didn’t want to see her in an uncomfortable situation. Especially if preventing it was as easy as breathing for him.

Michelle wasn’t unconscious for long. Her healing abilities made her body quickly recover the blood it had lost, and within a few minutes, she was back on her feet, turning the pages of the sealing book. Of course, after waking up, she was first met with the handsome Alexander’s face smiling at her playfully, making her quite uncomfortable. So she quickly got up and moved a few steps away from him.

Then, she went on to study the sealing book again. She wanted to see if any changes were in it after it had sucked and absorbed quite a lot of her precious blood.

But she didn’t find anything visible.

Still, that didn’t mean nothing changed. It was just something that couldn’t be seen easily.

The reason why Michelle kept the book sucking her blood was to make the contract stronger, so that was the first thing she went to check.

Calmly, she closed her eyes and sensed for the contract with the sealing book. And to her pleasant surprise, it was clearly stronger than before. Just slightly, but the fact that it was so clear showed that she had made significant progress.
