The Evil Lord's Wife Has Spirit Blood -
Chapter 133
Chapter 133: 133
Standing behind Alexander, Michelle couldn’t see his expression, but she could clearly see the shock on the old tavern lady’s face, making her frown a bit. Alexander was clearly from the upper, if not the heavenly realm, and though he did stay in the Land of Exile for a long time, there was no reason for a tavern lady in the lower realm to know him. Unless he had stopped at the tavern before he went into the Land of Exile.
Quickly, the old tavern lady controlled her expression and bowed her head calmly. "My Lord!"
Alexander just nodded at her and glanced back at Michelle with his playful smile still on his face. "How many people do you need to fit in the place?" he asked with a tilt of his head.
Michelle moved her gaze between the old lady and Alexander for a while before she closed her eyes for a moment to absorb the information. "Twelve thousand..." she said as she opened her eyes.
It wasn’t that she didn’t expect Alexander to have influence even in the lower realm. She knew that the power of the Dark Lord stretched over all three realms and maybe even the heavenly realm. But she just couldn’t understand why those in the lower realm knew what their Lord looked like. In most huge organizations, those in the low-ranked places or positions couldn’t dream of meeting the Elders, not to mention the Head.
That could mean two things. Either the old tavern lady was someone formidable, who was just stationed in the lower realm, or the Dark Lord’s organization was structured differently than Michelle was used to, so even a member in the lower realm had the chance to see Alexander or David.
And there was one more thing. Maybe the low-ranked people in the organization were shown the appearance of their leader, through a portrait or a vision stone, so they could know who to be respectful to.
While Michelle thought about the structure of Alexander’s organization, he spoke with the old tavern lady. "A place to accommodate twelve thousand people?" he asked with a raised brow. His voice was playful, but the light in his eyes left no room for questions.
The old lady quickly nodded and took out a key from a drawer. "The basement should be suitable," she said as she handed the key over and motioned with her head to the staircase behind her.
Michelle snapped out of her thoughts and followed Alexander behind the counter and to the stairs. He led her down into the basement, glancing back at her to see whether she didn’t want some light so she could see in the darkness, but he noticed dark element spirit energy dancing within her pupils.
"How many elements do you have?" Alexander asked as he stopped in front of the locked door under the staircase.
"Ice from Snow and dark from Nyxaroth," Michelle said as she watched Alexander unlock the door and open it.
In front of her eyes stretched a huge room, filled with the damp smell of must and mold. "This stretches much further than the walls of the tavern..." she commented as she passed by Alexander and walked through the door, into the basement. The air there was cold and moist, sticking to Michelle’s skin.
With her cold body, she liked the chilliness of the basement, but just a few moments were enough for water to soak through her body, so she wasn’t really happy. So she decided to try something radical. It was a method that just flashed through her mind, and she had never tried it before, but if she succeeded, it would be a major breakthrough in her control over ice.
Letting her ice element spirit energy spread out around her, she created small ice flakes around herself, and the dense humidity of the air started condensing into water drops which fell down. But before they could hit the ground, they were frozen by the intense coldness all around Michelle, hitting the floor with a soft clinking as they shattered.
"Could you always do this?" Alexander asked as he walked behind Michelle.
"I just thought about it. And the area it affects is bigger than I thought..." she said with a tingle of satisfaction in her voice.
She was able to reduce the humidity in the air to the level of which it was normally in the summer, the driest season. But she could only achieve it in a small radius around herself, barely in the distance of her outstretched arm, so the remaining humidity in the surroundings rushed to her with a soft wind as nature had the tendency to even everything out, including the humidity of air.
That made Michelle frown a bit as she felt more water condensate on her cold skin. "What am I?! A condenser?!" she exclaimed, feeling like cursing as she continued spreading out her ice element spirit energy.
Slowly, a thin layer of broken ice drops, basically snow, formed in the radius around her, and the humidity in the room dropped along with it.
"This is the first time I’ve encountered snowing in a basement!" Alexander said with a cynical laugh, reminding Michelle of his presence.
She instantly retracted all her spirit energy and remembered why she came down.
Then, she squatted down and put her palms on the ground, creating her net of spirit energy all around the basement to assess it. If she wanted to keep people there, she first needed to get rid of the humidity, but even if she did that by condensing the water, it would most probably return slowly while she went to the Land of Exile to get the people.
In the end, the humidity in the air didn’t appear out of nowhere. There had to be a source of it somewhere and Michelle just had to search. "Alexander, since you so want to help me, feel for a water source around here!" she said as she started spreading her spirit energy net into the floor and walls of the basement.
"So now you decided to use me?" he chuckled and closed his eyes.
In an instant, Michelle felt a shiver run down her spine and she felt herself sucking in a breath, her blood running cold. She felt extreme oppression all around her, and even though it wasn’t directed at her and clearly wasn’t dangerous for her, her instincts still flared up in warning.
Alexander noticed Michelle’s reaction and smiled a bit. He was confident in his control over his powers, so he thought Michelle wouldn’t even notice. But the fact that her instincts reacted so strongly just showed how sensitive she was to her surroundings.
Suddenly, he felt like pushing on her buttons a bit, but he held himself back. He did like seeing that beautiful face painted with anger, but it was more beautiful in the light of day, so he wouldn’t waste his efforts down in a dark basement.
Michelle took a deep breath to calm her instincts, and when she slowly got used to the oppression around her, she returned her attention to sensing for the water source causing the intense humidity. If the oppression was directed at her, she knew she wouldn’t have been able to calm down. But when it was just flowing around her, she was able to get used to it because it wasn’t directly threatening her.
It was like exposure therapy for her instincts. The more they were exposed to Alexander’s oppression, the more they grew numb to it and slowly stopped reacting to it.
Well, they never stopped reacting, but the reaction got much smaller, and Michelle could focus on the task at hand.
After a while, Michelle found a place in the ground which was much wetter than the others, showing her that she was in the right direction, but Alexander’s voice then rang out behind her.
"Found it," he whispered into her ear, making her jump.
"Damn! You scared me!" Michelle glared at him in the darkness of the basement as she sat on the damp ground.
"I thought you always paid attention to your surroundings..." Alexander hummed teasingly as he pulled her up to her feet.
"I don’t do it when it’s useless..." Michelle muttered as she stretched her neck a bit. "Anyways, where did you find the water source?" she asked with a slight frown. She wanted to take care of the intense humidity as soon as possible.
"Let me show you," Alexander suddenly grabbed her by her wrist and put her hand down on the ground. Then, Michelle felt a strange energy seep through her skin into her hand and through her hand into the ground. After that, she could perfectly visualize the ground beneath her at a large scale, nothing like her own net of spirit energy. She could visualize not only the parts of the ground where Alexander’s energy touched, but also the area around it. His skill was really much better than hers.
But Michelle understood it was not the time to be thinking about skills and closed her eyes to focus on the water in the ground.
Slowly, Alexander guided his energy to a place where the amount of water in the ground started increasing rapidly until he stopped by an underground lake.
