Chapter 85: New Year’s Eve (2)

"Really?" Arren still asked, as if making sure the other was telling the truth.

He knew for sure, something fishy about these two but was aware as well that there wasn’t real progress going about them. The progress between Rave and Levin in the novel was the most extreme slow burn that Arren had ever read. It was quite frustrating but also addictive in a torturous way.

However, Arren was really curious this time around, even though he already had an impression of their relationship. One was that he forgot a lot of things in the plot and didn’t know what happened in the end about them or if they had a happy ending. And the most important thing was that this wasn’t a book anymore; who knew if they would progress much faster this time?

Rave didn’t respond and instead shifted his gaze back to the camera, and they were now facing each other. The white-haired omega stared straight into him, Arren knew he had been caught, but he still smiled casually, not minding it in the slightest.

"Why are you so curious to know?" Rave’s one eyebrow was raised, and without waiting for Arren to answer, he continued. "I still have something to do; let’s talk again, Arren." He said that, and Arren’s screen blanked out immediately, indicating the call was ended.

Arren’s mouth parted; he couldn’t believe it, and Rave just ended the call without hearing anything from him. He clenched his teeth and glared at the screen as if the omega was still there.

"So rude!" he commented soon after, extremely annoyed, and closed the laptop aggressively.

Since he had nothing to do, Arren thought of watching something to pass the time. New Year’s Eve in the Katz Mansion was rather boring, to most people, but not for Arren, as he had grown accustomed to it.

There were no banquets that some noble houses had; in a way, it was more solemn. They celebrated this day more quietly, and they would watch some fireworks displays in the evening after eating and then go to sleep soon after.

His father was more enthusiastic about celebrating the Moonlight Festival than the New Year, which all the households in the Empire do. In a way, this festival was one of the most important occasions of the Empire, even more, important than the New Year, which means even more to the people.

With only half an hour passed, Arren instantly became distracted and began to constantly peek at his phone screen, only to frown more heavily each time.

Damn! Why was Spade not contacting him? Even just a simple ’Happy New Year’ would do! However, nothing! Even his greeting was ignored. Well, he hadn’t seen it yet, so he didn’t know if the alpha really did ignore it, but for him, who was increasingly annoyed, it might indeed be so!

"Then don’t contact me! I won’t contact you either." Arren threw the phone at his side and pursed his lips, becoming upset. However, only a few seconds later, he opened his screen and looked at the time—it was already 10:30 p.m.

Arren stared at the time, his mind spinning at its fastest speed before his lips curled upward. He didn’t want to truly distract the alpha with his whims if he was indeed busy, yet he couldn’t help but throw a tantrum for some reason. What could he do? He missed Spade.

With his mind made up and having made a decision, he went to his father’s study to ask for permission.

"You’re visiting one of your friends?" His father raised one brow and asked, clearly displeased.

Arren knew why, after what happened to him, his father didn’t dare neglect this part of his son and investigated some of his so-called friends as well.

"I’m only talking about Ramon," he threw a name out nonchalantly, although he knew Ramon was probably in the middle of his New Year’s streak of being a debauchee. For what that was, it didn’t need to be said.

The Duke was still not convinced that it was Ramon’s birthday when the incident happened. However, seeing Arren so adamant, he still agreed. With one absolute condition, his bodyguards needed to be with him. Arren agreed without any objection; he had no intention to neglect his safety, he only wanted to mess around with Spade for a bit.

After getting his father’s approval, Arren got ready to go out. He had already mostly recovered, and he could even run now. As expected, his father was lenient, as it was only New Year’s Eve. Arren would only be refused when it was the Moonlight Festival.

He went out after he prepared himself and made sure he was properly dressed and his coat was thick enough, otherwise, he would reap more than necessary. Arren didn’t want that to happen.

Arren left the mansion, and his bodyguards were already waiting for him. The Duke may have told them to get ready for him. He stared at them, and at this moment he was already informed that they were part of the elite Royal Guards. After knowing about it, Arren only thought it made sense and nothing else.

However, at this moment, he thought they were sore eyes for his plan. Who knew who would contact Spade after they arrived? Arren casually swept his eyes over them, each of them stood straight as if intimidated. Of course, he wouldn’t think that they were intimidated by his mere stare alone.

Arren didn’t think so, but the bodyguards were all intimidated by his stare alone.

After looking at them for a few seconds, he brushed them off and strode to one of the cars, which immediately opened for him. Arren looked at this burly man, who was most likely the leader of this group.

"Tell everyone that I’ll be confiscating their phones for a bit—well, just for two hours. So, they don’t need to worry." Arren casually commanded and made himself comfortable in his seat.

Of course, he wouldn’t have naively thought that their phones were the only way they truly communicated, as they still had their earpiece. However, that was for something urgent, and what he would do wasn’t something dangerous. Arren only wanted to stop them from being contacted about his whereabouts; he was only gone a few minutes before being found out.

The leader seemed confused for a moment before nodding and complying with his demand. Not long after, all the phones were in his hands. He put them at his side and counted them.

"Are you sure they were all here?" Arren squinted his eyes and asked, he wanted to make sure that his little plan to throw a tantrum would not go awry. He wanted it to be as plausible as possible.

Arren didn’t want to be seen acting like a spoiled child wanting attention after all, even if what he was about to do was exactly that. He at least wanted to be seen as a spoiled lover wanting attention. For what the difference was between the two, it was enough that Arren knew of it.

"Yes, Young Master." The leader responded truthfully, saying that even if he didn’t know what Arren was up to, he had to obey his command and, more than that, make sure of his safety.

Hearing that, Arren nodded with satisfaction before finally telling them to set out. He smiled to himself and watched their car, or envoy, leave the Katz Mansion.
