Chapter 84: New Year’s Eve

The Duke came back, seeing Spade only holding Arren’s hand while watching the omega fall peacefully asleep. The alpha’s face had returned to its usual calm expression. He only seemed to guard Arren while he slept to his heart’s content. Hopefully, he would wake up, though.

At first, the Duke was afraid to disturb Spade, and he even slowed down his breathing to not distract the other. However, Spade lifted his gaze and landed on Duke Evan.

"Duke," Spade called out softly, as if afraid to wake up Arren. It was quite ironic.

The Duke nodded to him and approached him in the bed, then stood at his side while glancing at his son in the bed with his warm gaze.

"Your Majesty, the doctors said Arren can be discharged after two days, and he can recover in the palace." The Duke started in hushed tones, which were still quite respectful to the ears. Although they were soon to be in law, customs were still customs after all.

Duke Evan informed Spade about it and said that Arren could continue his recovery treatment in the palace, as he still thought that Arren would stay in the palace after he was discharged as per Spade’s instructions. At this point, he didn’t have any reservations anymore and fully entrusted his son to the Emperor.

To his surprise, however, Spade did not agree.

"Arren can come back to the Katz Mansion and continue his recovery treatment there. I think Arren can fully recover in a more familiar environment than the palace." Spade reasoned, and he truly thought so.

Their relationship was more or less revealed now, and at this time, Spade didn’t want Arren to enter the muddled waters. It was especially notable that the omega had yet to recover and was still weak at the moment.

Spade knew that his omega was strong, and he didn’t need to treat him like some glass that would shatter at one touch, but he still couldn’t help but do it either.

The Duke momentarily didn’t respond but nodded after some time. Saying he was satisfied with Spade’s decision was an understatement, as he liked this decision very much. He also quite missed his son, whom he didn’t often see these days, and the Duke also wanted to be with his son after what happened with Arren.

Spade didn’t hear the Duke’s answer, but he was aware Duke Evan had agreed. With what he said, the other had no reason to refuse either. He would be more reassured if Arren was with his father than if he was staying in the palace.

However, he couldn’t overlook Arren’s opinion either, and it should be asked, but Spade knew the omega would understand the circumstances.

And as Spade thought so, Arren agreed to return to the mansion. He wasn’t so clingy as to always stay with his boyfriend, and it could be said that what he hated the most was being a burden to anyone.

Three days passed in the blink of an eye, and it was New Year’s Eve. Arren was already discharged from the hospital yesterday, and he was back in the Katz Mansion. In the weeks that he had not returned home, Arren admitted he missed their own home, but at least everything was still the same.

Arren put the glass of water on the table and took the vitamins that he needed to take for a week. At this moment, his strength had gradually recovered; he only needed a few more days to reach his peak condition.

"Why the long face?" a graceful and soft voice asked him. Arren, with pursed lips, looked at the omega on the screen of his laptop. Rave was currently on the screen and having a video call with him.

As for why they were having a video call, it had something to do with Rave being his personal attendant and his tutor. Well, it was more like the former than the latter. Arren wanted to take advantage of Rave’s identity to ask the omega for something, and although it had an element of threat to it as well, everything turned out well.

Arren asked the white-haired omega to report to him anything that was happening in the palace, or, in other words, to become his personal spy in the palace.

However, it was more like they were having some gossip talks here and there rather than actual spy reports like in some spy movies Arren had read or watched before. Still, it was better than nothing. To be able to make Rave do his bidding, Arren had sacrificed so much. Like his dignity, for example.

"It’s New Year’s Eve and Spade has yet to contact me," Arren lamented after a while, and even some unnecessary details they talked about were forgotten by him. In any case, what Rave reported to him were all boring things that Arren suspected the other omega wasn’t taking him seriously.

Arren wasn’t clingy, but he still wanted to be with the ones he loved for special occasions like New Year’s Eve, particularly since this was their first time celebrating this day as a couple.

"His Majesty might be really busy if he hasn’t contacted you." Rave consoled him from the other side of the screen.

He raised his head and leaned it in his hand, focusing his gaze on the other’s image, who was currently folding something that Arren wasn’t interested in knowing about or asking about.

"Do you really think so?" Arren urged on, wanting the other to convince him some more.

Rave slightly nodded, not looking at the camera and focusing on what he was doing. Arren narrowed his eyes. Look at this guy! He wasn’t interested in his problem at all!

Whatever, he was also aware that the alpha might be really busy at the moment if he had yet to contact him. Arren was only throwing a tantrum to gain sympathy, but the other party obviously didn’t care! How infuriating.

Knowing he wouldn’t receive any reaction from Rave for his own love problem, something flashed in his mind as the corner of his lips shot up slightly. As if the omega sensed it, he looked at the camera but failed to catch his expression.

Arren, who now wore a nonchalant expression on the surface, stared at the screen.

"How about you, Rave? Has Chief Levin already contacted you?" He inquired normally as if the thought had only passed through his mind, and he was curious about it.

Sure enough, it happened even faster than his initial guess, Rave’s expression changed slightly, and the omega averted his gaze to what he was doing. However, Arren noticed that he was distracted. He forced himself not to laugh because of this. Seriously, messing with Rave using Levin was effective all the time.

"Why will he contact me?" Rave responded after a few seconds, his tone was still the same as usual, but his actions clearly were not. The other continued with a bit of urgency in his voice to prove himself to Arren. "We don’t have any connection other than being part of the secret investigation team, so he didn’t need to contact me."

Arren watched Rave’s reaction with interest, and he didn’t stop to listen to what he was saying. Those were all rubbish anyway. They clearly had something going on with them! However, Arren wasn’t here to matchmake the two of them, who clearly were fated for each other. He also didn’t want to mess with this part.

But not wanting to mess with the plot was not in line with him messing with Rave using Levin!
