The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra -
Chapter 200: Trap (2)
Chapter 200: Trap (2)
Duke Merphen was someone Spade somehow anticipated to be on the list. It wasn’t that he was incompetent or hard to trust, but because of his closely-knit relationship with the House of Ford.
While Marquis Ford married Princess Noreen, his aunt, the noble house had always been a left faction rather than a royal faction. They always had marriage alliances among them, which made them one of the strongest noble alliances in the empire.
Because of it, he already had suspicions about Duke Merphen. However, he might not be surprised, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t disappointed to find out his suspicions were confirmed.
After all, the House of Merphen was one of the pillars of the empire, and this betrayal still had a significant effect on the result of this war.
Not to mention that Duke Merphen was famous among the youths of the empire due to his advocacies, which was also a factor they needed to consider.
As he went through the list of the spies from the various evidence and conducted interrogations, Spade’s anger almost exploded right there and then. There was one from among the royal faction, which made him realize just how much his father endured to stop and wait for the right time, even choosing not to give himself justice after all these years.
"Team 1 will start in three days." Spade started giving orders calmly, but the underlying impatience couldn’t be controlled. He raised his head and stared in front of him, his gaze carried a dominating spirit that no one could even defy.
Team 1 was the team that was stationed outside of the capital; they needed to get hold of the nobles that were in their domain first. Even though the current autonomy of the empire wasn’t the same as in the Old Empire, where nobles had their own fiefs, it was still almost the same, as they govern the area and the empire almost never inspects them unless absolutely necessary.
This was a hidden danger; Spade could almost confirm himself even without investigation that these domains were where the organization housed their forces when they attacked the capital.
The Empire was so big that Spade couldn’t possibly manage the territories as a whole and was only governed by these nobles, which was something that needed to be amended if only he had the opportunity.
At this thought, Spade became still for a moment. opportunity... Wasn’t this the biggest opportunity that came to him? War wasn’t the best solution, but sometimes it also held the greatest rewards a monarch could hope for... getting rid of unruly subjects with a perfect reason.
Not only that, he also needed to think of the people who were about to be implicated. He sighed, stopped with these thoughts first, and continued giving orders.
"As soon as possible, make this operation smooth without harming civilians." Spade’s oppressive gaze roamed in the room, "All the operations need to be carried out all at the same time so that no one can inform one another and we can capture them all at once. You all must remember how crucial this is, as Team 2 will start to circle capital and I’ll declare an alert at this time."
The timing was needed not to be perfect but right; if they could perfect it, that was the best scenario. However, Spade knew that there were a lot of unexpected things that could happen at any given time as they made their move. They were fighting against a cunning and ruthless organization, and Spade would never underestimate his ’uncle’.
As long as they could finish their main objective, Spade was more than happy to say it was completed even without capturing a lot of organization members.
Even as they planned this trap, there was nothing absolute about whether they were the hunter or the prey. That complicates their situation.
The people in the room acknowledged his order; no one was actually interrupting him; Spade was in a hurry to say his piece. He was still somehow calm earlier, but after hearing the news about Arren, he wanted to end this meeting early, after he had given his important orders.
Spade elaborated on some plans after Team 2 and other teams and the steps after that; of course, these elite Black intel and the Royal Guards were all subordinates he could count on and didn’t need to be spoon-fed by a monarch. As long as he gave the general direction, they could execute it properly.
About the military, they were the part that was not needed at this time unless he wanted to go all out immediately, which added more uncertainty. However, some of the higher-ranking Black intel officers were, in fact, also higher-ranking military generals.
Spade swallowed, licking his lips that had gone dry after talking so much. He tapped his fingers on his table, arching his bows as he pondered.
"Serrien, where is Levin?" he asked hurriedly, which made Serrien, who stood at his side, be startled for a moment.
Serrien had a complex emotion at the mention of Levin, who was also his friend. Because of the complicated situation around him, he was not in this meeting but instead outside running errands. He hated it, but this was what Spade ordered—not to invite the alpha.
"Your Majesty, Chief Levin is still escorting the captured agents to the base." Even though he had complex emotions for his friend, he still had to answer Spade.
At the mention of Levin, it was not only Serrien who had complicated expressions. No one in the room knew who was the leader of the organization or Princess Coreen’s involvement; they were all Levin’s parents, so they were more or less surprised not to see the trusted right-hand man of the monarch in the meeting.
He nodded at the answer, expressionless. He gave another, "Tell him to standby, he has his own mission later on." Spade spoke, quite with a hidden meaning, as he added, darkly, "A very important mission."
For everyone present, Spade held the most complex feelings for Levin. And the mission he prepared for Levin was not from a monarch; this time, it was a family affair. So he had no intention to tell everyone yet until Levin decided who he would align with. Spade put all his trust in the alpha and gave the choice to Levin, even if it could also be the last time.
Without saying anything about Levin further than that, he moved on, this time the air once again shifting to an even bigger pressure. Everyone couldn’t help but straighten in their seats, and Spade became solemn as he spoke.
"This is the stage we need to be controlling, but let me all remind you, we’re about to fight lunatics that do anything they want, and we don’t expect them to play by the rules we set. They can even bring their own rules or entirely ruin it for all of us." Spade stared directly at his subordinates while speaking in a deep tone, reminding them to be wary and not relax their vigilance.
He wanted to instill in their minds that they should not always have the mindset that the plans were always to be followed from start to finish; the rules were set by them, but lunatics never ever follow the rules unless they set them themselves.
As he finished, his tone became softer, as did his expression: "After we’re done, I hope to... have a drink with all of you."
Spade didn’t know if he set the flag for all of them or himself, but even if he didn’t, that flag had already been raised by their opponents. He honestly didn’t know if... what he said would happen.
After the meeting, the people inside the room had left, and only Spade, Serrien, and the leader of the control center of Arren’s security were left in the room.
He leaned in his seat, tapping his finger on the desk. Spade’s expression was calm, but he actually had a lot on his mind, deciding what to do.
"Where is that man?" Spade asked after a while.
"He’s in custody, but... we can’t hold him for long," the man answered.
Ramir indeed harassed Arren and Rave, but he actually didn’t harm them; aside from verbally abusing them and attempting to seize them, nothing really happened, so they indeed did not have the right to hold Ramir and his group for long.
Well, that was indeed the circumstance in which Ramir didn’t offend someone he shouldn’t have.
Spade sneered; he didn’t put this Ramir in his eyes, but he was actually a good reason to give pressure on Duke Merphen so he wouldn’t be suspicious of what he would do for the next few days.
He would never allow anyone who attempted to assault his omega to run free, not leaving even a strand of their hair.
"Tell them not to let him go; if they ask why, tell them to meet me in the palace," Spade responded somewhat domineeringly. Even he couldn’t forgive this man, as he wanted Arren to enjoy the few days of peace left before their operations started.
With this thought, he looked at the man and made his decision.
"Secure the periphery, the mission for today is not postponed." Spade would not ruin it for Arren either; he would let him enjoy this day with his friend.
