Chapter 120: Listen

Chapter 120: Listen

Arren looked straight at the ceiling while waiting for Spade. He was getting ready and choosing what would be appropriate to say to the alpha at this moment.

First, he could tell him about his plan to have a beak and travel outside of the capital. And then, even if Spade didn’t ask him about the matter of Princess Noreen, Arren would still tell him regardless.

It was either to tell him first about the vacation or about Princess Noreen, nothing really mattered about the order of what needed to be discussed first. Whatever the case, he was determined to talk about the two.

Not long after Spade was done, Arren couldn’t help but size up the alpha, who was only in his nightrobe. Even in the dim light, his attractive figure was perfectly outlined in the somewhat thin fabric.

He watched as Spade walked closer to the bed, his eyes feasting even more. And with his intense gaze, it seemed his thoughts that were about to become naughty were interrupted by a slight flick of his forehead.

"You really didn’t need to wait for me," he spoke in his calm, pleasing voice, "we can still talk tomorrow."

Arren knew what he was implying, but he didn’t want to delay this any longer. He was aware of his tendency to forget something and disregard everything when the matter had gone cold.

"No, we need to talk about it now." Arren was extremely firm this time; he didn’t want to be persuaded by Spade, even if he flaunted his body and seduced him right now. He wouldn’t budge... well, only slightly.

The alpha could only relent and support him as he slowly sat up in the bed. He felt like it wasn’t appearing serious enough if he was still lying in bed.

"What is it... that you want to talk about?" The alpha soothingly brushed Arren’s disheveled air and spoke gently.

Arren almost closed his eyes with the comfortable sensation. He really made a good decision on getting up, lest he was coaxed back to sleep by Spade.

He looked at Spade, his eyes still having a hint of sleepiness, and grabbed the alpha’s hand from his head, interlocking it with his own. He didn’t want to be distracted by this hand, but he also didn’t want to be comforted by it at the same time.

They stared at each other, despite the dim lighting, their faces were still clear for them to see. He fiddled with the alpha’s fingers.

"Aren’t you asking me something?" He muttered in a low voice. He was aware that the alpha knew exactly what they needed to talk about. As expected, if Arren didn’t mention it first, Spade might turn a blind eye to it again.

Somehow... Arren felt that even though they claimed they trusted each other, they also had lots of secrets for each other. It seemed as though there was still a barrier between them that neither party wanted to cross. That was what he wanted to bypass little by little.

Spade’s eyes focused on him, and he observed his face, and fell silent for a second before responding. "Do you really want to tell me?" His voice was a bit hesitant.

Arren slightly clenched his jaw, lowering his gaze and looking at their interlocked fingers amidst the shadows.

"You know, you can ask me anything." He paused, mincing his words, and added, "Are you satisfied with us always being like this?" His last sentence had a higher tone than the first few words, which he subconsciously let out.

Only after two seconds did he realize what he said and abruptly raise his gaze and look at the alpha.

"Ah... I-I mean..." Arren slightly winced, not knowing what to say, especially as he couldn’t read Spade’s expression except that he was slightly stunned. He exhaled and didn’t try to make excuses anymore, but instead continued.

He stared straight at Spade, tightening his grip on the alpha’s hand. "For once, ask me about your doubts. Spade... we are in a relationship, right?" Arren spoke directly, without beating around the bush. He was certain that the alpha could understand the implications of his words.

Spade seemed momentarily at a loss for words, and he kept his eyes on him. Arren couldn’t help but chew on his lower lip. He was suddenly nervous and thought that he might have gone a bit overboard with his words just then.

What if his words came off as unpleasant in his ears? What if he took it heavily? Damn it, Arren didn’t intend for them to have their first fight in his plan this night.

"I’m sorry," After a while, Spade’s apology rang and almost echoed in the silent room. His back slightly slumped, and he heavily sighed.

Arren’s expression sank, "Wh-Why are you saying sorry?" He didn’t say that for Spade to apologize to him or make him feel bad for anything at all.

His hands were slowly kneaded by the alpha, who slowly moved closer to him. "It must be difficult to hide everything. I’m sorry that I’m only thinking of myself."

He frowned at Spade’s words, but before he could say anything, the alpha didn’t let him continue and spoke again.

"I thought I was being considerate by not asking you anything. But... perhaps I’m really just not ready to know your secrets, and I used your feelings to justify my reasoning." Spade’s heavy voice rang, and even Arren’s chest tightened as he didn’t want to hear this tone from the alpha.

"No, don’t say sorry. I’m really not ready to say anything before. Even if you ask me, I’ll be even more guilty if I lie to you." Arren hurriedly stopped the alpha from apologizing, and his words came out so quickly, he was almost rapping.

He was telling the truth. Spade not asking him before was best for them as Arren wasn’t decisive yet with his decisions to answer the alpha’s questions, so even if he were to lie, Spade could still notice it, which might get things awkward for them.

Spade slightly shook his head and was about to say something, but Arren didn’t let him before he jumped into the alpha’s arms without thinking that both of them were stunned. Fortunately, Spade’s reflexes were quick enough, as he steadily embraced Arren without stumbling to the ground.

"Arren..." the alpha’s voice still contained some surprise, as though he was about to reprimand Arren for his hasty actions but was at a loss for words.

Arren encircled his arms around Spade’s neck and buried his face in the alpha’s shoulders. "Can we just continue with our talk instead?" He pursed his lips, withdrew slightly, and stared at Spade.

He was sitting in the alpha’s lap, his legs wide open and wrapped around Spade’s waist.

"Don’t blame yourself, and don’t apologize either. Just from now on... let’s try to be honest with each other. Spade, I have a lot of secrets. Those are the things I can’t say out loud." Arren took a deep breath and leaned slightly closer so that their faces only had a slight distance from each other.

He swallowed down and continued, feeling the alpha’s arms wrap around his waist tighter, making their bodies press together.

"I never once apologized for hiding them from you because I know it’s not necessary." I’m not guilty of them, not even once. And they haven’t gotten in the way of my daily life. But now, each time, Spade, each time... I feel like Im going crazy. I want someone to listen to me. Spade, can you?

Spade’s lips quivered, as he bit it. Before leaning and burying his face in Arren’s chest, he took a deep breath and nodded his head.
