The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra -
Chapter 121: Princess Noreen
Chapter 121: Princess Noreen
Arren recalled his daily life, thinking he was an extra. Those were the days that could be considered the most carefree yet reckless period of both of his lives.
He could do anything he wanted. He tried most of the things that he hadn’t experienced in his previous life. Arren felt as though he was truly blessed, and compensated him for all his suffering in his first life and gave him the identity of Arren for his second life.
Even saying he was careless and planned to live his life to the fullest was an understatement.
However, reality soon came knocking on his door, and he became entangled in the storm he was escaping ever since he was eleven years old. Saying he didn’t miss those days was a lie and unrealistic.
Arren sometimes reminisces about his days when he wasn’t worrying about anything else but meeting the characters, which he deemed a plague and a death flag in his life.
He lowered his gaze and then met Spade’s eyes, Arren touched and clasped Spade’s head in his hand. His eyes were instantly filled with warmth as the corners of his eyes heated up.
Arren might have missed those days and continued to treasure them in his heart; however, he never once regretted meeting the man in front of him. His earlier days were filled with the things and sensations he wanted to experience from his previous life. While, Spade... was the one who opened a newfound meaning for his current life, something he didn’t even imagine before.
"For some reason, I’m afraid of Princess Noreen," he started, his voice unusually calm. He thought, he might stutter, but his voice was firmer than before. "I don’t want to tell you this before because I don’t really know why. Even now, I’m still confused about the root of this fear. But... Every time I have a glimpse of her, even in the distance, I can’t help but tremble and want to escape far from her." Arren spoke in a truthful and concise manner.
His eyes dimmed, observing Spade’s reaction even if he was already too nervous to know it.
"I never remember meeting her before. I’m sure of it."
Spade leaned his hand on the alpha’s cheeks and kissed it, as, unknowingly, it began to show signs of another attack of his fear and was trembling slightly.
"I believe you," the alpha said, nodding and speaking soothingly. His brows also furrowed, and he was perplexed as well. "My aunt has rarely left their residence in these years; there is no way you can meet her. Even in the banquets, she was like you, rarely showing her face."
As Spade said his last sentence, they couldn’t help but look at each other, speechless, but neither commented on it further. They chose not to ruin their conversation, Spade paused and ignored the matter of Arren being scared of banquets, before continuing.
"It’s impossible for you to encounter Aunt, both of you have different circles. And as far as I know, in recent years, Aunt has rarely ventured out and holed herself up in their mansion," he pondered, Arren not interrupting Spade’s thoughts. "Unlike before, when Royal Father is still alive, especially when Royal Father’s health is slowly deteriorating, Aunt is always in the palace visiting him. It seems after Royal Father’s death that she..." Spade frowned as he subconsciously paused as though he thought of something wrong.
Arren was only watching Spade, and as the alpha seemed to realize something, he was stunned and looked at Arren, who had an unbelievable expression on his face.
Spade nervously swallowed; it seemed it was difficult for him to say his next words because his mind was still not believing some conjectures he made in that split second.
"It’s okay, you can think of that later." Arren finally interrupted his thoughts, he was implying that he could investigate it later on. He didn’t want Spade, especially at this moment when he was too exhausted to think of any terrifying possibility.
With Spade’s expressions, Arren had some guesses about it. No doubt, if proven true, he would really be devastated.
Spade blinked, and his pursed lips tightened. Arren straightened the crease between his brows and smiled.
"Spade, what do you think of a vacation?" He tried to at least lighten the atmosphere and divert it.
For the matter at hand, Arren really didn’t have any right to say anything else unless the alpha wanted him to be involved. He acknowledged his fear for Princess Noreen, but for what else the alpha realized, it was not related for now.
"Vacation?" The alpha frowned, but Arren captured his attention and pulled him from his thoughts.
Arren nodded. "I’m thinking... we need a break." The smile on his lips faded, and he spoke with his true thoughts: "Before things went a little crazier, I want to at least enjoy being with you. I can’t breathe... being in the capital anymore."
The brewing storm in the sky of the capital could make one suffocate, especially Arren, who was part of its center.
"A vacation," Spade mumbled, pondered about it first, and looked at him. "Alright. I think we really need it." he agreed without hesitation.
And with that, they were set for their vacation. As for where they would go, that would wait after Spade had settled all the things on his end. A monarch leaving the capital was not merely a matter of preparation.
After only a few minutes, Arren soon fell asleep again. Even no matter how stubborn he was, sleep still won against him.
The room fell into silence once more. Arren had his peaceful sleep, pillowing in Spade’s arms, and was securely in the alpha’s arms. However, the alpha beside him was still wide awake, and despite the trace of exhaustion in his whole being, Spade couldn’t sleep.
He looked at the omega in his arms and waited for a few minutes, after making sure that Arren wouldn’t be woken up even if he moved and left his position, before having Spade get up from the bed.
Spade gently fixed the quilt in Arren, he stared for a few seconds at the omega for a minute. He turned around, left the main bedroom, and slowly walked to a drawer, rummaging for something and picking up some things before tiredly approaching the veranda.
The evening wind immediately swept him, and his nightrobe swayed, but Spade didn’t even shudder with the cold. His dark amber eyes gaze into the distance. It was a peaceful night; however, his mind wasn’t.
There were some click sounds before a cloud of smoke appeared in the air. Spade wasn’t a heavy smoker, but he occasionally smoked, especially when he had a lot on his mind. As an Emperor, there were really a lot of things for him to deal with, and he was often in his study. Smoking could sometimes relieve that stress and make him awake.
Only recently could he get some time off from work and sleep in his bedroom.
He fell silent and smoked afterward, looking at the phone in his other hand. His eyes flickered with some hesitation. Spade always thought of him as a very rational person and that, as an Emperor, he needed to balance his responsibility and personal affairs. They often had a thin line but never once broke with each other.
At this moment, he was being tested. family. He treasured that word. He looked at his phone for a long time before exhaling and taking a deep, exhausted breath.
He decided to go through with it.
"Investigate... Princess Noreen." He paused, his face twisting slightly as he shut his eyes firmly, having a difficult time proceeding, "Everything that can still be found that concerns her." His order was a bit ambiguous before he opened his amber eyes, as his eyes seemed to flash from the night. "Remember, don’t tell Levin."
The other side didn’t say anything else other than an acknowledgment, and the call ended.
Spade stood at the veranda before deciding to return and laid down in his omega’s arms, hugging Arren tightly.
