The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra -
Chapter 117: Voice
Chapter 117: Voice
They didn’t take too long to greet one world leader before proceeding to the next. It was just a formality and a respectful greeting. Since Spade was the host this time, it had to be done.
The event was a commemoration ceremony and a formal gathering for the closed-door meeting that would be held after, so they still had to have this show that everyone was harmonious for the world to see. It was a kind of assurance for normal citizens, as terrorism was always a source of fear.
After the two of them were done and had already approached where the seats of the Empire’s nobles were, Arren immediately swept his eyes and looked for his father’s seat. Their eyes soon met, and they smiled for each other as the Duke nodded his head; he also appeared emotional.
Arren also couldn’t help but almost tear up. He was already nervous, to begin with, and now that everyone’s eyes and attention were on him, no matter how shameless he was, it was still a thrilling experience for the first time.
However, more than anyone in this world, his father’s opinion and reaction were always the ones he cared for the most. Seeing him smile and seem so proud of him was already enough for yet another confidence to bloom within him as he stood by Spade’s side.
The nobles that were not at the level of the Duke were not qualified to greet the emperor personally; they only stood and saluted him. Spade and Arren then passed by where the four Dukes were sitting.
"Your Majesty," greeted by the four Dukes, also known as the four pillars of the empire, Afterward, they politely nodded at him. Arren was technically not the Empress yet, and these Dukes’ statuses were all still higher than his. He also politely smiled, giving his father a much brighter smile.
While Spade merely nodded to them and gently guided Arren. They only passed by because of their position. However, for some reason, Arren couldn’t help but give another glance to the kind and elderly man beside his father.
Duke Merphen was still looking at him, and it was a little strange. The old man was smiling kindly, but Arren sensed that he was staring at him a bit too much, as though he was assessing him.
They locked gazes for a moment before Arren averted his gaze and followed Spade’s pace. What was going on with Duke Merphen? Could it be because he recalled that he wanted to arrange a blind date for his grandson and Arren last time?
Arren shook his head and didn’t think further about it, he was still not at the level of those old foxes to read what their intentions were. For now, he will focus on the event first.
After all, this event was broadcasted on television. He didn’t want to become a joke in front of everyone in his first public appearance.
Their seat wasn’t far from the rest, and he knew that Mother Empress Liviera was also there to attend and would be sitting with them. However, as he shifted his gaze to the direction of the center, his hold on Spade’s arm visibly tightened.
Arren couldn’t help but hold his breath, forcing himself to calm down. He wasn’t as shaken as the first two times, but his knees were still weakened that even the hand that was holding Spade tightly was trembling.
Princess Noreen. Arren fearfully muttered in his mind. Levin’s mother was there, along with Mother Empress Liviera; they were both waiting and smiling for them.
However, Mother Empress Liviera’s smile might be somewhat comforting, but in his eyes, he could only focus on Princess Noreen’s face, and he thought he might have already run away if not for his weak knees and Spade.
His instincts were telling him to escape. Escape far away from her.
Spade already noticed his abnormality, and they stopped in their tracks, focusing on him. In everyone’s eyes, it seemed as though the Emperor was only doting on his omega, and no one could still notice that there was something wrong with him other than the alpha.
"What’s wrong?" Spade whispered, leaning on him, and observing his somewhat pale face. The alpha’s expression was still composed, and if not for the camera and the gazes of everyone, he might have long frowned.
Arren pursed his lips and shook his head. He felt like he wanted to say something, but if he did, he might break down in front of everyone. He didn’t hope for that to happen. This event was a symbolic day, not only for everyone but even more so for him.
"Arren, you need to tell me. I’m getting worried." Spade, lifted his chin to take a closer look at him. At this moment, it seemed that if Arren didn’t tell him the truth, he would seriously bring the omega away from everyone’s gazes and talk with him no matter what everyone thinks.
He looked at Spade and then shot a glance at the side, not far from them. The two that were waiting for them had already stopped smiling at some point and were now confused by what was happening.
Before he returned his gaze to the alpha, who also looked in the direction he was looking. The moment their eyes met, Spade was already looking at him intently. Arren knew that the alpha had now made some guesses, and he couldn’t lie to him at all once he had already sensed something.
He didn’t say anything and seemed to be waiting, disregarding that everyone’s attention was still on them.
Arren helplessly took a deep breath, and as he leaned on Spade, he had no choice but to reveal it. Everyone was waiting for them, and he didn’t want to ruin this grand ceremony.
"P-Princess Noreen," he whispered, in a voice so low that it was almost inaudible to the ears. His voice also cracked up, as though saying these two words alone expended most of his energy.
Spade’s amber eyes darkened, his thoughts were unknown to Arren, and this made him scared. What if the alpha didn’t trust him after this? What if... his negative thoughts were immediately cut off by the alpha.
"Can you meet my aunt? If not, greeting them is unnecessary, and we can head straight to our seats." Spade’s soothing voice was much deeper; somehow, it helped alleviate the fear he was feeling.
Arren’s throat moved, and he swallowed with difficulty with his parched throat. He nodded. He could meet her, but he couldn’t greet her. He wanted to endure, and he at least faced his fear and found out exactly what its root was.
"I...can try," he answered in an unconvincing tone, but he gripped Spade’s clothes to tell him that he really wanted to try.
Spade stared at him for a few seconds before nodding, and they continued with their steps. His feet were so heavy with every step he took. Even his heartbeat continued to pound; he was afraid his heart was about to escape out of his chest.
"I’m on your side... You don’t need to be afraid." Spade’s soothing voice sounded next to his ears. Arren shot a glance at the alpha before he nodded. With him by his side, perhaps, he really could endure this.
Only a few steps later, they were now in front of the two royal elders. Arren has already leaned so close to Spade that he might as well be attached to him.
"Your Majesty, and... Arren Katz, right?" A sweet voice greeted them, and the moment he lifted his gaze and looked at her hazel eyes, Arren would have probably collapsed if not for Spade supporting him.
In that split second, her voice overlapped something in his ears that was near yet seemed so far at the same time.
"Dying for love, isn’t that romantic?" the voice said.
