Chapter 105: Aftermath (2)

Chapter 105: Aftermath (2)

Even without Spade telling who the aunt was that he was talking about, it was none other than Princess Norreen. Instantly, his grip on the alpha’s clothes tightened.

Fortunately, as it was only a name, the effect of his fear on her wasn’t enough to make him tremble. However, as his expression changed and somewhat became pale, he knew Spade had noticed something was wrong with him.

The alpha immediately became worried and furrowed his brows, Spade touched his cheeks and spoke in a concerned tone, "What’s wrong?"

Arren swallowed in difficulty, trying to calm himself, but his grip on the alpha’s clothes did not loosen. He opened his mouth, his eyes heating up, and he was hesitant to tell Spade the truth.

This was different from the things he was revealing to Spade about what he knew about the organization or the plot. In that situation, even if he was suspicious, he could still trust Arren’s words, or at least ponder them in a rational way so as not to hurt his feelings.

However, if he were to say the fear that he unreasonably had for Princess Noreen, he was afraid of the alpha’s reactions to his words. He knew how good his relationship was with his aunt, but even if he loved him, Arren wasn’t certain of his reactions, and this might change something in their relationship.

And even he didn’t know the reason why he was afraid of Princess Noreen, and he needed to make sure first before finally telling him about it. One reason he wasn’t ready to tell Spade was that he didn’t want the alpha to be conflicted between him and his aunt. Especially in their situation when the alpha had a lot of things to do, preparing on how to deal with the aftermath of the incident last night.

Arren didn’t want to add himself to his concerns.

"Can I just eat here in the room, please?" Arren spoke in a low, controlled tone, while he pursed his lips and gripped his clothes tightly as though wanting support.

It was fortunate that his voice didn’t quiver and his words were clear. Arren didn’t want to see Princess Noreen, as much as possible. He wanted to know first the root and reason of his fear, and then, at that time, he could assess the extent of the situation.

Spade stared at him intently, as though observing his face and finding what was wrong. His brows were still furrowed, and the worry couldn’t be concealed by this expression.

After a few seconds, he sighed and nodded. His eyes were dim, but he didn’t ask any further questions.

"I’m sorry. I know you’re still not recovered from last night." He gave a reassuring smile and played with Arren’s hair in a comforting manner. "I’ll tell them that you want to stay in the room. I’m sure they’ll understand." He continued in his hushed tone, afraid to agitate his mood.

Arren could only agree and give a forced smile before nodding his head. After saying a few words to him, Spade left the room and went to tell his royal mother and aunt that they would eat in his room before proceeding to the kitchen and letting them know to prepare their breakfast.

The first half of the day, Arren and Spade only stayed in the room and talked about anything. It was more like discussing something with him, at some point, the alpha suggested something, albeit a bit hesitant.

"Talk to a professional?" His brow furrowed, and his voice rose a notch. However, he wasn’t angry but rather stunned as he was considering this suggestion.

Spade nodded, wrapped his arm around his waist, and spoke softly to him.

"It doesn’t need to be a full consultation, it’s just... I’m worried. You can just see it as talking to someone and a procedure to eliminate some residual trauma from last night and cope with it naturally." He spoke convincingly, and while his tone was gentle, it carried a bit of a hidden urgency to it as though he wanted Arren to seriously consider it.

After talking, Spade looked at Arren, exhaled, and stared at him, observing or even reading his reaction. "It’s also for one session, and it doesn’t need to be longer than half an hour either." He continued, however, seeing no reaction from Arren again.

Spade’s expression slightly sank, and he hurriedly retracted his words, "If you don’t want to, that’s also fine. You can just talk to me and your father or... Rave Amos. Right, I’ll call for him later to accompany you."

Honestly, this was the first time he saw the alpha in a panic like this. Perhaps, he saw that suggesting that Arren see a professional or a psychiatrist might offend him. It was especially so as he didn’t have any reactions and only looked at him with blank expressions.

Arren smiled inwardly, he also loved this side of Spade. Each time, the alpha always reminded him of how fortunate his decision was to accept him. It was worth it to give up on the years of promises to himself and embrace the destiny he often escaped from.

Thinking of this, a relief chuckle sounded, and Arren buried himself in Spade’s chest. He embraced him tightly, and in an instant, all the hidden emotions in his heart resurfaced, making his tears flow uncontrollably. His tears soaked the alpha’s clothes.

However, even with all these pent-up emotions being released by him through his tears, his chest wasn’t in any pain at all. In fact, Arren felt as though he were being relieved of all the burden, and for the first time since last night, he could finally breathe.

"I like you so much, Spade. I-I really do," Arren spoke another heartfelt confession once more, his voice muffled by both his tears and his position, but it was really enough for Spade to hear and feel all the emotions contained within these words.

Spade’s eyes slightly widened, and his mouth parted for a moment, stunned by Arren’s words. And after a while, his expression became lighter, and he closed his eyes as though savoring the words before engulfing Arren in an even tighter embrace. Both for comfort and for showing what he felt was the same.

"Mm, me too." Spade simply responded, low and almost inaudible, but it was especially clear in Arren’s, as though it was only meant for him and no one else was qualified other than him.

The answer was simple, but Spade actually didn’t know how to say what he truly felt for Arren; simply saying he liked Arren was not enough. In fact, even saying that he loved the omega wasn’t the truth anymore.

He didn’t know the right words, so he couldn’t say them out loud. His heart had never felt this way before—the way the inexplicable sensation engulfed him every time it was related to Arren. He wanted only good things for him and to make him happy. While also wanting the omega to be aware of the world and yet wanting to always make him safe.

It was all new, Spade was also astonished by this torrent of feelings, and yet he didn’t suppress them. He didn’t know where it started either; it was like the moment he met Arren, the omega had slowly engraved himself into his being as if he were meant to make Spade insane about his existence alone.

And now, Spade was certain. His feelings for Arren were already beyond words, and they made him lightheaded.
