The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra -
Chapter 102: Failure
Chapter 102: Failure
The Duke also finally could breathe and was relieved. Even though he was so tense earlier, he was already thinking of scenarios in his head to be able to protect his son with his life.
Fortunately, Spade came just in time and saved them from their predicament.
And with the arrival of Spade and their reinforcements, the battle resumed, and this time, the victory had tilted on their side!
Arren was still nervous, but it had now decreased. He already believed that their enemies would be defeated. The situation did unfold in the direction he anticipated; the royal guards around the car had left and moved, joining the battle. It was only indicating that they were at the advantage.
The gunfire continued, and since Arren didn’t dare look outside, he couldn’t see what was happening and was only judging the situation by the intensity of the sounds.
Not for long, and the sounds of the gunfire gradually receded with a few shouts, followed by the sound of a car, which he assumed was leaving to pursue the enemies.
Arren lifted his head and got the courage to look outside and find out what was already happening. As he had the hunch that their enemies were already defeated, it was fine to look outside; however, he was still slightly cautious.
As his gaze landed outside, the aftermath of the chaos instantly met his eyes, and Arren couldn’t help but gasp and cover his mouth at what he was seeing.
Cars were tumbled upside down as they were still scorched with fire, some were almost indistinguishable with bullet holes all over the body of the car. Shattered mirrors were scattered around the ground.
It was absolute chaos; his eyes roamed and even saw dead bodies on the ground, from either the royal guards or the enemies. The bloody scene was almost like a scene from a movie, but even more terrifying to him because it was real. They weren’t actors; they really were dead men in the truest sense.
Arren fell silent. Somehow, even with how strong his mentality was, it was still shaken by this scene. And... to the fact that it happened because of him. Was this his fault?
His mind was once again embroiled with guilt as his eyes became blank as though he were in a trance. And as he was beginning to be lost in another depressive episode, he was woken up by a hand averting his face from outside.
"Son..." the Duke’s voice sounded so soft, giving off a reassuring tone, as their eyes locked.
Arren blinked his eyes, and he came back to himself, but the gloomy air around him remained. He didn’t say anything and bit his lower lip. He knew that if he did, his voice might crack, and he didn’t want to cry, especially not in this situation. Not yet.
The Duke sighed, and caressed Arren’s hand as he spoke, "Son, I might not want you to see things like this. However, I also don’t want you to be ignorant either. And in these chaotic times, it’s better that you can open your mind to the cruel side of this world."
He stared at his distressed father, and what he said rang in his ear. Arren knew from the start that this world was far crueler than it seemed, especially as the dawn of war had finally come into play. Still, it was hard to accept after witnessing them in reality.
After a few moments, he took a deep breath and nodded his head. Arren’s emotions had slightly improved; he was great at hiding his emotions deep down, after all. Together with his strong mentality and a rather carefree personality most of the time, his depressive mood didn’t completely overwhelm him.
Arren gave a small smile to his father. "Thanks, dad, and... I’m glad we’re safe," he whispered, his tone only half-relieved. Because he knew that a lot of people had sacrificed themselves to ensure their safety in this battle alone.
He swallowed the lump in his throat with difficulty but didn’t think about it anymore. Arren told himself all over again that everything wasn’t his fault, he was a victim too. Otherwise, he would definitely break down with self-blame and trauma from what happened.
While they were talking with each other, a knock on the car window distracted them, and both looked in this direction. Someone stood outside, and from this alone, Arren could already recognize who it was.
Instantly, his heart pounded, and this time not from anxiety but from the extreme and inexplicable emotions that enveloped him after seeing and knowing that Spade was just outside of the car.
The corners of his eyes heated up, and he wanted to open the car immediately, but his reason had not yet left him despite his surging emotions.
Instead, he turned and looked at his father as though seeking permission from him. The Duke also shifted his gaze from outside and faced him; he smiled and nodded. The words didn’t need to be said. It was already obvious just by their eyes alone.
Now that he already had his permission, Arren didn’t have any reservations anymore. He opened the car door as if eager. In fact, Arren was indeed eager.
As he opened the car, the one outside consciously stepped back, and Arren got off the car. He lifted his head, and instantly, their eyes met. Both had different expressions, but what their hearts were feeling at that time was the same.
Arren stared at Spade, as though afraid that it was a dream and hesitant to move forward. His lips trembled, and even his chest was starting to ache from the emotions he had yet to fully express.
Spade’s expression became complicated; however, he still forced a reassuring smile onto his lips. And widened his arms as if inviting Arren into his embrace. He nodded his head, urging Arren.
He stared at him and then lifted his gaze into the alpha’s face, it took only a few seconds, and Arren couldn’t take it anymore. He finally closed the distance between them by diving and burying himself in the alpha’s chest, as he was instantly engulfed in Spade’s embrace.
Arren’s hands gripped the alpha’s clothes on his back, wrinkling them noticeably. It was as though he wanted to support himself and vent his emotions now that his alpha was finally here.
Like he was, Spade also tightly and securely hugged Arren in his arms, kissing the top of his head as he buried his face in the omega’s hair. Their figures were tightly pressed together, not wanting to be separated for a second.
In that span of moments, they really forgot their surroundings and immersed themselves in each other’s warmth and the natural scent of their pheromones as they poured all their fears and emotions into each other.
Somehow, as they did so, it seemed their connection had gone deeper, and even the way their hearts beat was in the same tune. Now that they were in each other’s arms, nothing mattered anymore, and they could finally breathe.
Illusion or not, the two of them didn’t care. For them, all of this was real.
