Chapter 99: 99. Sightseeing.

"What are you saying? Why would I go to that woman’s house? What is my business where he has gone? I planned on asking his permission to go outside. That was the reason I have been looking for him but since he is nowhere to be found... or better still, since he is indisposed at the moment, I will go out either way." Neriah shrugged. What did Aria and Riri take her for?

"Oh, so you just want to go out?" Aria asked and the lady nodded her head. "May I ask why?" Her brows furrowed as she asked her question.

"Well, I heard some maids talking about a place called Alison’s store. Thy say it is the best place to be when you are in the capital city of Trago. So I want to visit there too. You know I cannot stay in one place for a long time. I feel like I am getting sick in this place."

"But my lady, what about your tour round the castle. From what I understand, Lady Olesia will be here any minute to continue where you left off. I think—"

"Aria, do I look like I am in any mood to tour? I want to go out."

"But my lady, think of the risks. You could be in danger. This is not Avelah. We do not know what lies outside those gates. I do not want to see you in trouble and—"

"Aria, please stop." Neriah hissed irritatedly. "I wish to go out and that is final. Have them prepare a horse I will ride alone." She ordered.

"But my lady—"

"Aria!!" She snapped. "Go and do what I told you and stop trying to talk me out of it!" She yelled. "Go! Now!!"

Aria let out a defeated sigh and bowed her head, "Aye, your highness." She said as she turned around and walked away.

...

After some time, Aria returned, "My Lady, they refused to prepare a horse for the crown princess and insisted on preparing a carriage." She explained.

"What?! How—" She paused. She had no more time to waste. She did not want to go with anyone, that was her reason for asking for a single horse. But a carriage would have a rider and... well, she could not argue. She had no idea how far Alison’s store was from the palace. So she just had to use what they prepared and deal with them later.

"Fine, lead the way." She ordered and Aria led her to where the carriage was waiting. Neriah’s mouth opened wide at the sight of the carriage. What was the occasion?!

"Were there no other simple normal carriages that were less attractive? The whole world would know that it was someone from the royal family passing by."

"Forgive me, Your Highness. But this is the most simple and normal carriage befitting a standard noble family of Trago." A young man suddenly popped out of nowhere.

He was dressed in a matching white coat and pants, even his shoes matched. He had long brown hair that almost blended perfectly with his brown skin. Who was this new character? Neriah wondered.

"Oh, forgive me once more, Your Highness." He bowed his head to her, "I am Farhan Lazar. I oversee the affairs of the Kadan-Rana palace." He explained and Neriah could not help but pick his last name.

"Lazar? Related to Eliza Lazar?" She asked.

"Eliza is my little sister." He humbly explained and Neriah could not Belo but think that he was nothing like his sister.

"Alright, Farhan, you mean to tell me that this carriage is the most common, the most simple design for noble families in Trago?" She had no time but she had to ask.

"Aye, your highness. I would have prepared a more grand carriage with royal flying unicorns for your first appearance outside the castle gates," Ah! She had completely forgotten about the unicorns! "but your maid had informed me that you wished to visit with much discretion. I quickly understood that you wanted to get to see and be treated by Trago’s people not as the crown princess but as a person. You wish to witness the life of Trago firsthand without the restraints of being the crown princess. You want to be able to mingle among the people of Trago so you can personally know them."

Neriah’s mouth was left open as she watched the man explain the many many things he believed she wanted to do. He would be so shocked if he realized that she had no plans of doing all those things he had said and only wanted to meet her lover.

"And what better place to learn of the Kingdoms noble life than Alison’s store? A place where people of different races and colors meet together comfortably. A place for the high class nobles." He stared at Neriah with much reverence that it shocked her deeply.

"I must say, I applaud your commitment, Your Highness. You are a true princess." He bowed again and Neriah smiled nervously.

"Aye... Thank you. And yes, I will surely do all those many many things you think I want to do. I mean, I planned to do. Aye, I shall carry out my princess duties with much discretion." She nodded. "Can we go now?"

"Certainly my lady. Let me help you." He offered his hand and she took it with a smile on her face. "Will your maid be joining you?" He asked, "Or do I send for another maid?"

"Uhm, Nay. I shall headout alone. You know, if I am to pretend to be a foreigner who came to Trago for sightseeing, I would not necessarily bring my maid." She explained and even added a wink to top it.

The man smiled and nodded, "Indeed. You are a wise woman, Your Highness." He said as she climbed into the carriage and, "Have a safe trip, Your highness." He smiled and signaled the coach to carry on.

The moment the carriage was out of sight and Aria and Riri had gone their way, the smile dropped from his face and three men dressed in black outfits, with a sword at their side appeared. "Follow her. Watch over her. Make sure no harm comes to her. We do not want His Highness’s wrath."

"Aye!" They echoed and disappeared from his sight.

Farhan sighed as he watched the carriage moving in a distance. "Oh your highness, you married an interesting figure."

...

She really had no intentions of sightseeing. But how could she stop herself from opening the window and sticking her head out? Now she was not flying in the sky, nor was she seeing the view from a high place. She was actually riding in the midst of the people, she could see them going about their businesses like normal people.

And most importantly!!! They were dressed normal! She had forced herself to believe that they were only dressed because they wanted to welcome their king in a grand way. But right now, they were all going about their different businesses and yet they were dressed normal.

No half-naked man running about! And yes, the buildings... the ones that were made of wood were made of wood and the ones made of bricks were made of bricks!! There were no huts made of raffia palms!! Only normal stalls, shops and seriously!!! If she ever got back to her home, she would burn all those books down. All the books that said these people were not civilized!

They were still barbarians of course, her take on that was never going to change. People who plundered and burned down villages were evil, wicked savages. Nothing more.

But as per their civilization... She hated to admit it but their capital was more beautiful than Avelah.

Looking around she could really see other people with skin color like hers moving about freely amidst the many, many brown-skinned people.

Were they maybe slaves of war? She wondered but then she answered her own question. "I do not believe they would be walking around this freely if they were slaves of war."

"We have arrived, Your Hig— I mean, My Lady." The coach quickly corrected himself.

Once again, she had forgotten... Her real reason for coming out. But as the coach spoke, it came back to her.

Her Lyle. She was finally meeting him again after so much time being apart from each other. She hoped she was not too late. She prayed that he was still in there waiting for her.

With a deep breath, she stepped out of the carriage and her eyes was on the huge banner that hung at the top of the building, some foreign words were written boldly on it. and she could guess it meant Alison’s store. She looked to the left side of the banner, in smaller fonts were different other languages, some she understood and others she did not. But the gist of the matter was she was right, they had written the name Alison’s store in different languages so the foreigners could easily locate it.

That was brilliant. Neriah
