Chapter 75. Will get there soon.
Chapter 75: 75. Will get there soon.
Now Neriah could not wait to get to Trago. All this while, she had been wary of stepping foot in such barbaric territory. A place she was certain would be ancient with no modern houses and castles. She was certain their castle would be like a hut or maybe worse. What if they enjoyed sleeping out in the open?
All those uncomfortable thoughts filled her head whenever she thought about going to Trago. But after Lyle’s letter, things had changed. She no longer dreaded the idea of reaching Trago. In fact she looked forward to it. Because to Neriah, reaching Trago meant being able to see Lyle again and being able to see Lyle again meant a means to escape and if she escaped with Lyle, it meant freedom. Her very own freedom.
She had never been happier. She prayed that the sea would remain calm and the ship would sail smoothly so they could get to their destination quickly. It was past two weeks and two days already. She wondered when they would get there. She hoped it was soon. She could not stand Barak’s childish behavior any longer.
She wondered what she would do with Riri when she finally escaped these people. The unfaithful fairy that seemed to love Barak more than her now. Maybe she’d just leave the fairy for the barbarian. Everyone on the ship seemed to adore her anyway. So much so that they were even teaching her their language!
The door to the room opened and Barak walked in, "How are you doing this afternoon, dear wife?" He asked as he strode towards her, sitting himself down on the edge of the table, smiling at her who sat on the wooden chair behind the table.
She eyed him wickedly, wondering why he was talking and smiling to her.
"What do you want, dear husband?" She asked in turn and the words almost made her puke.
"A man can check on his wife anytime he pleases, can he not? Just wanted to see what level your hate for me has reached." He was mocking her with that smile. Lords! She hated the man.
"What do you want?" She simply asked.
"I see your hate is as high as ever. Good." He nods and taps the table with his fingers. "I brought you good news though." He said and she didn’t even flinch because she was certain that nothing he would say would be a good news to her. She dropped her eyes and continued reading her book.
"You do not seem interested, but I shall inform you anyway. If the waves persist to remain calm, we shall be reaching Trago by nightfall come tomorrow." Instantly the words sank into her head and she lifted her eyes and stared at him.
"T_to_tomorrow?" She stuttered as she gently placed the book on the table. Her heart was starting to play a thousand tunes as she stared at him to confirm what she just heard.
"Yes. Tomorrow, if the calmness of the sea persists, that is." He affirmed and she had to bite down on her lips to keep herself from screaming. She wanted to shout and scream for joy! Tomorrow!! Finally she would be free. Finally she would be in the arms of the man who loved her dearly. The man who loved her to the point of traveling the seas for her sake.
She could barely contain her joy. In fact if it was not her barbaric husband she would have kissed the bearer of this good news. It was indeed good news!
...
Barak stood next to the helm of the ship. It had been hours since he went to give his wife the supposedly good news and for some reason, he could not get her expression out of his head.
"She looked ecstatic." He muttered to himself.
"Yes, Your Highness?" the man who manned the helm asked as he thought he had been spoken to.
"No, carry on. I was just muttering to myself." He said and silently stared out into the massive body of water, gazing at that thin line where the sky met the sea, and the beautiful setting of the sun as it stained the water.
"Worry not my prince, we shall reach Trago in no time. You shall finally get to show your princess the beauty of Trago. I am certain she must be joyful to leave this endless water and finally reach her husband’s home." The man cheerfully said.
Barak nodded, "She is." He said, "and that is what bothers me." He added.
He really couldn’t get over her expression. Why did she look happy? What exactly made her so joyful? He had delivered the news to her all for the purpose of watching the dismay it would bring to her face, but to his shock, it almost seemed she had been expecting the news for quite some time.
The princess he had come to know would have hissed and even growled at his good news. But she seemed rather happy to reach Trago, so it made him wonder...
"What are you planning this time?" He whispered into the air a question he really wanted to know the answer to.
...
That night, Neriah did not hear any weird noises coming from the deck to disturb her sleep and when Barak returned to the room, he had not feigned snoring just to annoy her. All he did was to pull her into his arms like he always did, kiss the back of her neck and fall asleep before she even did.
The night was peaceful once again and she was in his arms that were uncomfortable as always, yet for some weird reason when he had wrapped his arms around her as usual, her body impulsively moved closer to his. Like it had actually been waiting for him.
It was a very uncomfortable realization for Neriah. The fact that she had inched closer to him. She didn’t like it. The foreign feeling wasn’t pleasant at all.
