The Dragon Prince's Bride
Chapter 193. Dear goddess, help him

Chapter 193: 193. Dear goddess, help him

"" Would you like to fly with me?"" He had asked.

Her head lifted from his chest and she stared at him, "Fly with you?"

"" Aye, I want to show you my dragon form."" He had said.

"That is true, come to think of it, I have never seen your dragon form." She noted. "If you were in your dragon form, I might not be able to point you out from a bunch of other dragons." She jested.

""True, so will you fly with me?"" He asked again.

Her face cringed and her mouth twisted, "I am not so sure about that. The last time we flew together you almost killed me." She reminded him.

"" Haha, that was because you were being a witch. And we really didn’t fly together, I just moved you while you tried to scratch my eyes out."" He reminded her of her own ferocious nature.

"Acknowledged. But to be fair, you were not being a prince charming either." She shrugged.

He shook his head in a big no, ""I disagree. Neriah I literally strodeko into a forest of evil spirits for your sake. I saved your life and in return you tried to steal my rented horse. If anything, you were not being a nice princess."" He stated and she frowned.

"You always have to win." She hissed.

""Indeed, and I usually do. So tell me, will you fly with me? No... Fly with me Neriah. I want to take you round Fortia and show you the most beautiful places. Places you can only see from up high."" He said again, foregoing the question and telling her what he wanted her to do.

She then asked, "What if I get scared of the height?"

""I will soothe you."" He replied without hesitation.

"What if I fall?" She asked again.

His hands slowly tread through her hair, stroking her shoulder that was covered by long red hair, "" Never. If you must fall then we will fall together." He replied.

There was something scary about those words and yet they were so romantic to her ears. "Oh, alright then. I will fly with you." She accepted.

We will fall together—

"Barak!" Neriah gasped and flipped her lashes open as the entire scenario from earlier that morning replayed in her unconscious mind. The last words he had said to her in bed that morning resounded in her head. They would fall together...

They were supposed to fall together.

She looked around her and realized she was in a room. A dark room. If it had not been for the little lights that streamed into the room through the window, she would have been completely blinded by the darkness.

"Ah," She shrieked as she realized her hands were tied behind her, her ankles were also tied together. "I cannot be here. I cannot stay here, he needs me. Barak needs me." She whimpered as she twisted her hands, trying to break free from the rope that bound her.

"Please be safe." She cried. "Dear goddess please, please help me. Please keep him safe. Hear my prayer this time," She tried to stop her tears but she could not. She felt so guilty.

"Keep him safe from every evil eye, be his refuge against every plot of the enemy. He shall not fall for the plans of the wicked. This is all my fault so punish me not him. I should never have continued seeing Lyle, so make me suffer in his stead. Please dear goddess, I beg of this one thing. Hear my cry."

And indeed sheep weeped, all the while still trying her very best to twist her hands out of the ropes. But it was done very tightly. It was impossible to loosen.

"Maybe not." She gasped as she realized something. Her fingers touched the rope, feeling the material it was made of and to the goddess be the glory, "It’s not made of animal hair!" She almost screamed as she yet again felt the texture in her hands. "It’s made of dried twigs."

With a deep breath, she channeled her energy to her hands and in the same moment, the ropes that held her hand slowly came loose. "Oh goddess, thank you for these powers." She said as she brought her hands to her front, rubbing her sore wrists again and again, trying to ease the pain.

With no time to waste, she untied her legs and rose to her feet. For the first seconds, she staggered. Her legs had fallen asleep and her eyes were still slightly under the effect of whatever drug Lyle had knocked her out with. However, her determination was more than her current drug-headed state.

She had prayed that Barak would not show but she knew he would. He was a man who always kept his promise, so he would come. And that meant he must have met the fake her and he must think she was with Lyle.

She had to correct all that. And most importantly, she had no idea what kind of torture Lyle had instore for her husband, but one thing was certain, death was his final blow.

And she had to save him. This time she would not hesitate, she would declare her love to him. Like she should have done from the very beginning.

In the darkness, quietly, Neriah located the door, she placed her head upon it and listened for a sound. When she heard nothing, she turned the door knob but as expected, it had been locked.

She looked around the room again and there was no other way... She had to go through the window. Quickly, she made her way to the open window and with the experience she had, climbing down a window was nothing.

In the blink of an eye she was out of the room and running like her life depended on it...

Maybe it did.

...

Barak thought about it, if he was to choose between flying toward the main gate that leads out of the in or toward the walls. There was not much time to think about it. He was at the center of the forest, he would have to first make it out if the forest then make his way to the main gate. However, if he was to choose to fly to the walls, since he was already at the center of the forest, he would get there quicker than he would reach the main gate.

They would catch up to him before he could reach the main gate. So there was really only one reasonable choice. He had to get to the wall and give everything he had into flying over it.

"How long is this going to go on for?" Lyle complained. "Is he that strong or are you all just too useless?" he barked.

Left with no other option, Barak tried to channel his energy into bringing out his wings, but the pain in his heart was so massive that instead of bringing forth his wings, he coughed up blood.

His attention shifted to the sword in his hand, it was dripping with blood. He looked at the dahlia flowers, at least what was left of them. They were either crushed or stained with blood. He had to keep fighting. He could not die, not when she was still breathing.

Once again, he focused his energy on bringing forth his wings and again, it weighed on his heart and he coughed up blood yet again, falling to hiss knees as the pain numbed his body.

"Are you finally giving up?" Lyle mocked. "About time, end this." Lyle ordered and the masked men slowly and cautiously began to close in on him.

Blood dripped from his head, trailing into his eyes and came down like bloody tears. He was blinded for a minute, so he closed his eyes and he saw her.

The wicked witch he had married. He could see her smiling at him, pretending to hold a little affection fir him... He could see her kissing the lines on his body, whispering his name in the most beautiful manner.

He could see her head upon his chest, complaining about something. He could see her asking him to hold her in his arms.

And then he could see her stabbing him in the heart, holding on to another, kissing another.

He could see her for the evil she was.

And by the gods he would not die here, vengeance would be his.

With much force, his hand landed on the dagger that had been in his chest since and he yanked it out vehemently. Once more, he channeled his energy, focusing his everything on his back and with a great shout that echoed throughout the forest, he gave it his all and finally, huge white wings evolved from his back.

He was going to make it.

"Oh, you are so unyielding!" Lyle hissed angrily as Barak flapped his and with one mighty push he propelled into the air, slashing the men who surrounded him as he made his way toward the wall.

He was going to make it.
