The Dragon Prince's Bride
Chapter 187. Kitana Alnar

Chapter 187: 187. Kitana Alnar

It was from one place to another. From one stall to another. Not really buying anything, just enjoying their time out. They were both dressed in peasant clothing, so they did not stand out amidst the many people on the streets.

It had been Neriah’s idea; she called it a disguise. But their disguise did not stop sellers from trying to sell stuff to them. It only helped to hide their identities as duke and duchess of Fortia.

Neriah tied a scarf over her head to hide her red hair as it was a very attention seeking color in a place of people with black,, brown and blonde hair. And Barak had teased her saying if she were to ever shave her head she would still look good.

Neriah could not remember any of her sneaking out attempts that had been as fun as the one with her husband. It was so much fun, seeing the different people gathered on the streets, pointing out their weird walk or she would badmouth a person, he would scold her for doing so only to later agree with her and badmouth the person with her.

Like he had promised, he showed her places, monuments, statues, always taking his time to explain the history behind them. That is if she was willing to listen... The ones she didn’t want to hear about she would yawn endlessly until he would smack her gently on the head and they would both laugh.

Indeed, Neriah was glad they were both doing this. She still could not get over the fact that he had actually confessed to loving her. She had thought about it again and again, if he could feel anything for her. His words had reassured her about his heart toward her.

The more she spent time with him, the more she realized how foolish she had been to have ever wanted anyone who wasn’t him. She could not think of anyone else now. It was him and him alone. She was going to tell him everything tomorrow. Everything he needed to know and if he still loved her, she would tell him too. That she was in love with him. She had no idea when or how it had happened, but it happened and that yes, she was willing to be his wife. His and only his. And the mother of his children. As many as she could push.

"I have been meaning to ask. What is that statue?" She asked with a mouth full of street food. They had stopped by a stall selling grilled cow skin. He was the one who had wanted it, but she was the one eating it all.

"Oh, that statue," He said as he tried to take a piece of meat out of the small bag that she held but she just stylishly moved toward the statue as though she had not realized what he was trying to do.

"Aye, this statue. I’ve been seeing from inside the carriage everytime we come out and she looks so dignified that I cannot help but wonder if she is a goddess? Is she a goddess?" She asked while chewing on her meat.

"To most knights, Aye. To the many people she fought for, Aye. She is a goddess. But in reality, she was just a woman, a mother, a great warrior." He explained while still looking at the small bag of meat in her hand.

"Then she is a goddess." Neriah said to herself.

"Indeed." Barak said, finally taking his eyes off the meat and looking up at the statue of the woman before them.

"But is it just me or does she look familiar?" Neriah asked while tilting her head and body to stare at the statue more.

"That is possible." He said and tapped on the engravings at the feet of the statue.

"Kitana Alnar." Neriah read out loud. "Alnar?" She repeated the name. "Why does that name sound familiar? I feel like I have heard that name before. No, I have definitely heard the name." She pressed her lips between her teeth as she pondered on the matter.

Barak shook his head and tsked. She could be so bright and smart at many things and yet slightly slow at some others. "Neriah, of course the name is familiar. Alnar, Regina Alnar—" He said and mockingly opened his mouth and eyes wide in an attempt to mimic her current expression.

"Ah, so— huh!! Regina—" She gasped in shock and he was still mimicking her expressions so she clicked her tongue and slapped his arm. "Stop it." She said.

"Barni once told me that Lady Regina was from a line of warriors, now I can see it for myself. Wow."

"That is right. The Alnar family is the oldest warrior family in Trago and they have birthed lots of brilliant notable knights whose names can never be erased from history."

"I see." She nodded as she listened diligently as though someone would give her a test after this tryst with her husband. "So is this Lady Regina’s mother?"

Barak laughed at her question. "What? No?" He laughed again.

"What is so funny about my question?" She was sincerely puzzled.

"Nothing, just the thought of Lady Yinda being a warrior makes me laugh."

"Lady Yinda?"

"Regina’s mother. She hates everything that has to do with fighting. Regina was the one who took the fighting spirit of the family. It omitted Lady Yinda." He explained and Neriah nodded as she watched him.

"However, this person here is Lady Yinda’s mother. That is to say Regina’s grandmother."

"Ah, I see."

"Aye, and just so you know, this statue was crafted after she fought a war and was victorious. And as history has it written down, she fought while pregnant with Lady Yinda in her."

"What!!" Neriah shouted. Awkwardly, she smiled at the passersby who stared at her as though she was mad.

"She fought a war while pregnant?" Neriah asked. "What if something had happened to her baby?" Neriah asked. Unconsciously her hand held her stomach as she thought of fighting with her baby in her stomach. What if something had gone wrong and—

"Neriah!" Barak called her and she looked up at him. "Did you hear what I said?" He asked.

"Wh_what did you say?"

He shook his head and sighed, "I said, in Trago, there is something called a Lepron shield."

"Lepron shield?" She said and he hushed her.

"Not so loud Neriah, it is a secret amongst the royal family and some certain chosen knights."

"A secret, and you are telling me?" She asked and her expression was much more puzzled than when he told her the statue was related to Regina. It was a royal secret and yet he was willing to tell her? Why?

"Aye, you are my wife after all." He simply said and she blinked again and again, not finding any word to say.

"B_but I am still from Avelah and—"

"I guess that means I am willing to trust you now." Barak said and again, Neriah thought to herself, he was an amazing man.

No matter how many times she thought about it now, the man who was her husband was an amazing man who never failed to amaze her in one way or another.

He was a man who knew her secrets and yet he was willing to trust her. Where could one find such a man? Only in the books she read, Neriah smiled to herself.

"What is the Lepron Shield?" She simply asked.

"Its a substance that pregnant dragon knights take if they must go to battle." He explained.

"What does it do?" She asked.

"It shields the baby from physical eyes and physical harm."

"I do not understand."

"When ingested into the body, a shield forms inside the woman’s stomach, and anyone looking at the woman won’t see the protruding stomach and also, no harm will befall the child unless the effect off the shield fades." He explained and Neriah stared at him ffir long seconds trying to understand what he had said, when she still did not understand she sighed and just waved her hand in the air.

"I still do not understand." He opened his mouth to speak, but she hushed him, making a shushing sound with her mouth. "Do not explain further, we still have a lot of places to see." She said.

"We do?" He asked and she nodded.

Her hand slid round his elbow as she scooted closer to him. "I asked beforehand and was told some places that were a must-see for couples." She said and he almost laughed at how much her eyes glittered as she said those words.

Slowly, she began to drag him away from the statue of Kitana Alnar and he allowed her drag him "Who did you ask?"

"Who else?"

"Do not tell me—"

"Hakan, aye. He was very willing to help me by the way." She said and he scoffed.

"You asked the old man about it? What happened to all the young maids in the estate? Hakan does not concern himself with these kinds of things so he—"

"Oh, you talk too much, dear husband." She clicked her tongue.

"Just lead the way and we will know when we get there." She instructed and he nodded like a diligent and obedient puppy.

"As her ladyship pleases."
