The Dragon Prince's Bride -
Chapter 188. Kiss me again.
Chapter 188: 188. Kiss me again.
They were out until midnight, visiting everywhere Hakan had told her about and some places Barak also wanted to show her. They went about as though they would never have a chance to go on such an outing again.
BY the time they returned to the Fredah estate, they were both pleasantly exhausted. After spending a good amount of time doing nothing in the bathtub, they had dried themselves and now they sat together in the balcony of their room, silently looking over the wide estate.
Neriah sat atop him with her back resting on his chest, and he stroked her gently without breaking the silence between them. It was such a comfortable silence that Neriah could not help but wonder how in the world they had made it that far.
With the way they had started out their marriage, who would have thought a day would come when she would curl in his arms and he would gladly carry her and that she would love it too. Life was strange.
"Tomorrow—" Neriah finally broke the silence. "Will you meet me at the garden of purple dahlias?" She asked. The garden of purple dahlias was one of the many places Hakan had told her about and they had visited there together that night before returning to the estate together.
It was an enclosed garden that was hidden at the center of tall and thick trees. From behind the trees, it was impossible to see what was in the center, but when you went deeper into the woods, at the middle, you would find beds of purple dahlias. It was a beautiful sight.
Out of all the places Hakan had told her about, the garden of purple dahlias was the one that most captured her heart. Maybe because it seemed like a place that was detached from the other part of the world. It seemed as though being there with him, it was just the two of them in the world.
It was the perfect place to let all her secrets out and if the universe was on her side, begin a new and brighter Chapter of their lives.
It was land owned by a businessman who ran an inn. According to the explanation Barak had given her, when the man discovered that his small forest had become a center of attraction for guests at his inn, he had begun to collect money for visits to the place.
Now, not only guests were allowed into the place. As long as you were willing to pay to enter, you were welcomed.
"If you want me to." He simply said. She lifted her head and turned her body slightly so she could look at him.
"I want you to."
"Then I shall be there." He assured her.
"Meet me there in the evening, will you?"
"Can we not go there together?" He asked and she shook her head.
"You have a meeting in the afternoon tomorrow."
"I will postpone it."
"You cannot do that."
"Then I shall move it to the morning."
"That is rude when you already gave them a time."
"Then I shall end it as quickly as possible." He had a response to everything she said and it made her laugh.
"Take your time Barak." She said and kissed his chin like it was the most normal thing to do. "I also have to prepare, so take your time, just make sure you come."
"What will you be preparing for?"
"It is a surprise."
"A surprise?"
"Aye. Do not be too overwhelmed when the time comes."
"Now, I am even more eager for tomorrow than I was this afternoon." He kissed her eyes so tenderly that she wanted him to continue.
"Again." She whispered it in such a low voice that he didn’t hear her until she spoke again, "Again. Kiss me again." And as she spoke she turned all her body to face him.
"I thought you were tired." He said as he began to do as she had asked him to. He kissed the parts of her face. "I thought your waist was sore, and yet you want kisses?" He teased her.
"We can just end it with kisses." She muttered over his lips.
"Oh my love," He purred so sweetly that she had goosebumps. The sweet, sweet goosebumps as he spoke the next words in tragonian, ""It can never end with just kisses.""
...
Morning came as quickly as night had. And with it came work for the duke and tea party for the duchess. They were busy, but Neriah had kept all her business scheduled for the morning. By noon when her husband was just beginning another meeting, she had been on her way to the garden of purple dahlias which Hakan had rented out the place for the rest of the day and Neriah had proudly paid for the expenses with her own money even though Hakan tried to make her understand that it would not be inappropriate to use from the duke’s funds.
BY the time she got to the garden of purple dahlias, everything had already been set up just as she had asked. She had given Haken precise instructions on how he was to help her arrange everything.
And they had been diligently fulfilled. She thanked and sent away the helpers who had set everything up for her when she arrived.
The table at the center of the garden, a small basket that contained a variety of foods because as she was planning for her big confession, she had realized she had no idea what exactly Barak liked.
She knew nothing. She had never really asked. She did not know about his best food, his favorite place. She knew nothing. She had no idea if he preferred spending his time listening to music or he preferred staring at paintings. He was not a picky eater, that she knew but what were the foods he liked personally?
Did he prefer wine, beer or strong liquor? She knew nothing. The things he did as a child, what he would have loved to be if he wasn’t tied down by the chains of the crown prince’s position.
She wanted to hear all about his expeditions. He had fought so many battles, so she had heard and back then she did not care. But now things were different. Now she wanted to know how he must have felt during those times. Was he afraid when he had to face powerful foes? How did he cope being in battle for months, years even? What gave him strength to always lead his people to victory?
There was so much she did not know about and only now did she realize it. But she was determined. If the goddess was on her side, and the universe was backing her, he would say he loved her even after everything and then they would begin a real life as real man and wife. Then she would ask everything she did not know and would tell him all he did not know about her.
Now she wanted to let him know that although he did not fit the physical description of her stupid attributes of a life partner, he fit every other thing. He was kind, the kindest man she knew, he was sweet to her, he loved her, his heart was beautiful and yes, she could die just to get a glimpse of his smile. He was everything she had never wished for and yet everything she could have ever needed.
She was going to tell him that someday.
For now, she smiled beautifully and wrapped a hand around her belly, "He will love us both." She whispered as though the growing child in her womb could hear her.
"He will." She said to herself and went on to begin to bring out the food from the basket. Her eyes caught some dahlias that were not in full bloom. She walked closer to them and crouched down.
"I will help you bloom like your friends." She said to the flower and placed a finger on the bud. Slowly, she watched as the petals stretched and opened. And as she watched, she heard a footstep approaching. It was a familiar footstep so she nervously concluded that he had come. But he was earlier than she expected. Did he really rush his meeting?
Her fingers suddenly began to tremble. It was finally time to face him and tell him everything. Everything from the very beginning to the end. It is going to be fine. All is going to be well. She said to herself and nodded.
With a deep breath, she rose to her feet and with her breath held tight, slowly, she turned and as her eyes met his, she forgot she held her breath. She forgot to release it.
Because it was at that moment she realized she had been mistaken about the footsteps. They were familiar, aye. But...
"Hello, my love." They did not belong to her husband. It wasn’t Barak_ It was...
"Lyle."
