The Dragon Prince's Bride
Chapter 184. Some confessions.

Chapter 184: 184. Some confessions.

Laying on the wooden floors, body and heart entwined, their slow syncing breaths flowing through the quiet walls of the library. Only the stacks of books had bore witness to the sweet words of unending devotion that they had both whispered into the air. And as they lay there after giving and taking everything from each other, Barak’s head went back to that very first night. Just like this, he had taken her that night, but unlike that time when she whimpered and cried, swore and blamed him. Unlike that time when she had shifted away from him, this day was different.

Now, her hands and breasts rested on his chest, her head was upon his arm, her slender legs were crossed with his own and there were no tears, neither was there any form of retreat. She was deeply buried in his arms and he could see only a soft smile on her face. All that covered their nakedness was his coat yet she was comfortable that way.

It made him wonder, "Riah,"

"Yes?"

"Why did you do that, that night?" Why had she done that... Why had she made him feel so dirty for spending that previous time with her. He had felt like filth because he had enjoyed doing things to her that night while she had clearly hated everything. It made him feel so hateful towards himself.

Her head on his arm lifted and beautiful green eyes met his own, and she looked so lost about what he was talking about. "What?" Her voice contained concern. It still baffled him, how a person could change so quickly.

"That night we met..." He saw her pupils shake and the pulse at her neck quickened, "I confess that I sincerely almost desperately wanted to have you the very moment I saw you, and in some way, you might have been right by saying I got what I wanted. In truth, maybe I was expecting you to give in to me at some point before that night was over and again, in some way I might have goaded you but... You but in truth, we cannot deny that you had asked for it too. So why did you cry and blame me?" He asked and he saw the look in her eyes, she looked remorseful...

"I sometimes wonder, was it because I really hurt you?" She instantly shook her head, indicating a big no.

"And if not that, was it part of your act that you had planned?" He was asking questions that could disturb the peace that they had somehow found in each other. But he could not stop himself from asking as he really wanted to know.

"If you cannot tell me then—"

"I did not have any acts planned before coming to you that night." Her voice was so low and shaky that at first he did not hear her words, but slowly it sank into his head.

Her eyes no longer stared at him, they were fixated on his chest, "That is the truth. A_all those lies I told only came at that moment. And I know how it sounds, you must want to say I am a very good liar to be able to cook up such brilliant lies under pressure and you will be right." She said.

"And Barak," Her lashes lifted and her eyes were on his once again, "I swear you did not hurt me that night. If anything, I have been the only one hurting you from the very beginning."

"Neriah—" He said her name even though he had no words to actually say. To think she was the one speaking those words to him...

"And that time, I was a Coward who was unable to accept the fact that I wanted you as much as you wanted me." His eyes widened at her confession.

"Neriah—"

"The fact that I hated people from Trago was true, so I could not accept the fact that I felt anything towards you and so I blamed you for something that was indeed the most reverberating experience of my life just like you had said."

"Riah—" again, he said her name without actually having anything to say to her. He was completely short of words. When he had asked that question, he had wanted an answer, he had never perceived that what he would be receiving was far more than an ordinary answer. It was a confession...

At that moment, Neriah thought to herself, since she was already confessing everything, she could use this chance to tell him the entire truth. About Lyle too.

She would tell him how she had been meeting with her so-called lover whom she had spoken about that night and who exactly that lover was and how she ended everything with that person just before they came to Fortia.

"Neriah, do you know that before you entered the court that day, crying that_ that I—"

"Please do not say it. I beg you..." She shifted and placed a hand over his mouth, not wanting him to say anything further. "I hate myself for what I had done that day." She confessed with her lashes over her eyes. "It took me this long to finally feel shame for my actions that day, so please do not say it." She desperately begged. She could not stand listening to the foolishness she had done that day. It took her so long to understand how much she had embarrassed herself and her family in front of this man and his father!

"Alright." He said as his hand touched hers over his lips and he placed a kiss into her palm, gently bringing her hand tk seat on his chest.

"But do you know what was being discussed at that time?" He still asked his question but without mentioning the shameful display of hers. She shook her head, "We were discussing breaking off the engagement." He said.

"I heard." She replied.

"And did you also know why I was going to break off the engagement?" He asked and she shook her head. "Because I could not imagine being married to the princess whose maid was the woman I had held in my arms that night." His hand touched her cheek so tenderly that she wished for nothing more but to melt into that big warm hand that stroked her with so much kindness as though she was the most cherished gem in the world.

"Neriah, I am a man who believes in being faithful to one partner, but I knew if I continued the marriage with the princess, my life as an unfaithful partner was inevitable, because I would see you who was the maid of the princess, and I would want you and would do everything to take you and I would have you because I could not resist you." He gulped as he confessed so much to her.

He was being foolish, he was being utterly foolish and he knew it but he could not stop himself. Loving her was foolish, trusting her was even more stupid and he was doing it all. Loving and trusting her, because he wanted to.

"I wanted the maid Riah over the princess who I had not seen, because indeed, I was captivated by you at first sight. And I thought about it over and over again and there was only one conclusion. I had to break the engagement and then find the maid who had so enchanted me and marry her instead." Neriah’s eyes widened as she realized what he was saying.

He had decided to break the engagement with her because he wanted to marry her! But not her who was a princess, the her whom he had met that night.

The maid.

"Barak I_ I did not know. I—" She didn’t know what to say. It was so overwhelming to find out that a man would want to break an engagement between two kingdoms just for the sake of a woman whom he had met and slept with one night. What kind of man would do that?

Only a man as loyal as her husband.

"And I was so foolish. I behaved so—"

"" I love you."" Her heart paused at that same instant. Her lashes flew up and her gaze caught his own. And she could see the expression on his face. For some reason he looked more shocked than she did. And that expression made her realize that she had not misheard him.

At first she thought she must have misinterpreted the words in her head since he said it in tragonian, but looking at the shock on his face, she was certain... He just told her those words.

"I_ we should get dressed and—" He fumbled and hurriedly rose to his feet. Without any thought, Neriah rose after him and her hands instantly wrapped around his waist. At least she wrapped all the part her hands could hold, pressing her naked form upon his back.

""Don’t leave..."" She said in tragonian,""Not after saying those words.""
