"Now that they are all gone, and we are finally alone," Barak said, lifting her from her seat and placing her upon the table."You need to be punished for what you were doing." He smirked. It had taken all his physical and mental strength to remain composed throughout the meeting. Some months ago, he would not have even dreamed that the woman would be able to look upon him without disgust on her face but how much things had changed.

The changes still scared him. It felt like there was something coming after that change. Something that would hurt him beyond repair but when she did things like this, initiating things like this and smiled at him the way she was doing, called his name with that sweet, sweet voice that could drive any man mad...

When she looked at him with those green eyes, teased and played with him like a lover would... How could he not love her?

"You made the duke a mess!" He tsked and she giggled.

"But can you swear you did not like it?" She challenged.

"Oh I did. Only a man who has lost his function would not love the touch of your delicate hands." He said as a matter of fact.

"But that, my dear Spitfire," He moved her hair from her shoulder to her back, "is why you should be punished," he filled his mouth with the skin between her shoulder and her neck, "for having such lovely hands." He took her hand in his own and placed a kiss on her knuckles, in her palm and then he went on to kiss her fingertips one after the other and all she could do was blush as he did so.

"For stirring me up so good, you should be punished my dear duchess."

"And how does my lord duke plan to punish this duchess of his?" She asked in an oh so titillating manner.

"Oh, my love, you know just how you will be punished." He smirked, burying his head into her neck once again, following a trail of kisses up to her neck where he whispered, "lift it up."

Her hands that held the table to steady herself moved to her dress and as she lifted it to her thighs, "I cannot disobey my lord duke, can I?" She giggled as she loosened the strands that held the fabric at her breast, exposing them to his eyes. "This humble duchess will now be punished by you. Punish me, my lord, I shall accept whatever punishment is instored for me." She said and at that moment, she heard the door to the room open and her eyes widened, her head turned and her hands instantly covered her naked breasts even though she didn’t have to, for it was her back that faced the door and Barak’s arms already wrapped around her body protectively.

It was Hakan.

""Forgive my intrusion, I was going to clear out the documents, but please carry on with your work. I will keep this room out of bounds till you are ready to step out."" Hakan said and with those words, he walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.

The two of them looked at themselves and in that same second they both burst into laughter.

"Dear duchess, I do not believe we have ever tried it in open waters." Barak raised his brows teasingly as they both sat down by the small lake that was in a hidden part of the Fredah forest.

"Oh no! I refuse to be naked in cold waters!" She instantly rose to her feet, putting a reasonable space between her and her husband. "The water is cold and very very cold, I will freeze! I am afraid I must decline this time." She stomped her feet on the ground. There was no way she was going to enter that cold water.

Sitting in front of it and admiring its slow movement was fine. But entering it was a whole different story!

"But you know I can make you hot faster than the water can make you cold." He said and she could see him rising to his feet with that annoying smirk on his face.

"Again, I am sorry but I must decline my dear lord duke. For not only am I not willing to enter that water, but I am strained from our vigorous morning exercise. " She took further steps away from him as he stalked her like a predator.

"But I am not." were the words he said before taking a huge leap, reaching her side in just one quick movement and before she could discuss further, he carried her bridal style and ran into the open waters with her screaming while trying not to laugh and enjoy this mad side of her husband.

"I read a book once," She suddenly broke the solemn silence in the library.

"Oh, Narcissus help us. Another book?" He laughed as he climbed down the ladder after placing a book back in a high part of the shelf.

"Oh, hush and listen." She hissed.

"Go on, I am listening." He said with his hands folded on his chest and his shoulder resting on the side of the ladder. His eyes were on her and her alone.

"So the book was called, The Crazy Duke and his lowly maid." She said enthusiastically.

"I see," He nodded.

"And in that book, the duke had a mother who was against his relationship with the maid, so they kept their relationship a secret."

"Go on," He could already see where the story was heading but there was no crime in indulging her.

"Every night, he would go to the library to find the maid and there, they would do it together. So, I was thinking, since we are in the library, and you are a Duke—" She paused, he could tell she was expecting him to fill in the gaps but he could not help the urge to tease her a little.

"Ah, well, we do not have a mother who is against our union, so all that is left is the maid... hm" he stroked his chin. "Oh!" He snapped his fingers. "should I go get a maid?" He asked and instantly Neriah threw the book in her hand at him.

"You can try! But just know we elves are known to be very good with poison and I will give it to you in very small doses, and you shall die slowly and painfully without anyone knowing the cause of your death!."

He was utterly befuddled. His eyes opened so wide as his heart raced at the words his wife spoke. She spoke of his death and yet he felt like he had never received a more sincere love confession in his life.

"Just wait right there!" She took another book and threw it at him before walking into the small sitting room inside the library, angrily slamming the door behind her.

""Lords, she has me completely bound."" He muttered to himself.

The next time she would appear, his dear wife was gone and only the maid he had met on that fateful night appeared before him. And it brought back memories... Memories of how she had captivated him at first sight. Her hair was still as glorious, her body still as tempting and her eyes still as mesmerizing.

"You know, I remember a certain person who ran scared from me because of my naked form." He said as he moved toward her. "If I am remembering correctly, she had called my member a monster, a beast, a rod and the most funny name, a sugarcane." He grabbed her by the waist.

"So tell me, Maiden Riah, personal maid of princess Riah, what do you say? Do those names still stand? Or have you changed your mind about this handsome stranger?" Neriah blushed as he lifted her entire body off the ground with just one of his hands. Her hands rested on his chest.

"I think you are still so horribly tall." She said. She could remember that was one of the first things she had noticed about the man and that night, when he had lifted her off the ground, carrying her weight like she was just paper just as he was doing now, she had thought so again.

"You are so, so tall. And hey! We are playing duke and maid, not handsome stranger and maid." She reminded him.

"I could not help being reminded of that night and talking of which, you still owe me a slap from that night." He said. And her eyes widened.

"So what? Are you finally going to have your revenge? Will you slap me now?" She asked with no hint of fear in her eyes. She was certain he wouldn’t do it. Never...

"Kiss me and your past and future debt shall be considered paid." She smiled and her arms wrapped around his neck and she did as he asked. She kissed him.

Indeed, he was reminded why he had wanted to call off an engagement with an elven princess for this lowly maid. She had captivated him that night, and months after, she still did. She was as beautiful as ever.
