The Dragon Prince's Bride -
Chapter 157. She never listens.
Chapter 157: 157. She never listens.
Everyone was gathered outside the room where Neriah was being treated. Even little Barni was present and although it was the first time in a long time he was seeing Riri whom he had been searching for, he did not speak with her. His little mind was filled with worry for the princess’s well being as was every other person who stood together waiting for news from the physician and priest who attended to her.
Seeing how Neriah had returned from the dungeon unconscious, Riri’s anger had instantly vanished and she had offered to make healing potions. But she was told that in cases like this, healing potions were close to useless. The only things that could be of help were holy relics to be used by the priest and the skilled hands of a physician.
Aria’s eyes were swollen to a point of ugliness. She remained on her knees silently blaming herself for her mistresses misfortune. If only she had reported the matter to the prince the moment her mistress conceived the idea in her head. If only she had even tried harder to stop her from her very own self. Aria could not help but think this way. "Dear Aveliana, please hear my cry. Please keep her safe. Do not take her just yet. If you do this, I promise to protect her even better from now on. I promise to not just accept everything she says but also consider how it would affect her and do my all to keep her safe. Please dear goddess, please let no evil befall her." She whispered those prayers over and over again.
Aria wasn’t the only one praying for Neriah’s well being. Rakavi; who held her husband’s arm with a worried look plastered upon her face, was no different. She too prayed in her heart that Neriah would be safe.
Even Rakima was not exempted. She also prayed for Neriah. Because apart from the fact that she was a wife, a sister and daughter-in-law, she was still a princess of Avelah. If something were to happen to her just five months into her marriage then only the gods know what would happen. May it not lead to an all out war. Neriah had to survive no matter what.
""She is going to be fine, Barak."" Raknar said with a hand on Barak’s shoulder.
""I wonder if the soldiers who were injured are doing fine."" Barak muttered absentmindedly.
"Brother?" Raknar called with a confused look on his face.
""Thankfully there was no death. I should go and check on them too."" He was saying yet he wasn’t moving from the spot where he sat. ""A_ah Reg, she was injured too. I should go and check on her. She suffered a lot today, I must remember to gift her something later. I really hope she is doing fine.""
Raknar looked at his brother who seemed completely okay and unaffected by the entire situation. But he could see it...
Raknar could see Barak’s fingers that were tearing at each other, his right foot that had been tapping nonstop, him talking amiss... All were a sign that he more than anyone else was worried for his wife. Raknar could tell that Barak was barely trying to maintain composure when in actuality, he was the less composed person at that very moment.
""She will be fine, brother. Your wife will be fine."" He said again as he placed a hand upon Barak’s hands, stopping his fingers from tearing at each other to the point of bleeding.
Barak’s lips that had been rambling on whatever came to mouth paused as Raknar’s hold on his hands tightened, a gesture to give him strength one way or another.
""She never listens.""Barak suddenly said. His eyes just blankly stared at Raknar’s hand over his own. ""She never listens to a thing I say."" He said again with a much more bitter heart. ""Raknar, she is one of the smartest woman I know. And also the most cunning, yet she can be so infinitely foolish!"" He hissed with fresh anger as he thought about what she had done and the state she was in.
""I mean it would take only a fool to go into a dungeon! Not a dungeon for normal prisoners but one of different demons and beasts. What in the world was she thinking?!"" He wished she was alright. If she was, he was going to throttle her little neck.
""Just wait till she awakens. I will wring her neck with my bare hands."" He swore words that were clearly lies. ""Let us believe curiosity pushed her into that place, but on getting there I know she would have been scared. I know her. I know how frightened she would have been the moment she reached the depths of that place but her stubbornness would not allow her turn back!"" The more he talked about it the more he was angry, and the more angry he was, the more he was frightened for her life.
""I can just picture how it all happened without being there. She must have been terrified but still she went into that dark place like the little fool she is!"" When she recovered he was going to throttle her. He really was... HeHe would wring her little neck and whip some sense into her. He was really going to hurt her and make her pay for her disobedience.
She just had to open her eyes first... That was all... He needed her to just open her eyes first.
""No, it is my fault. I knew something was off for the past few days. I just knew it. Even this morning I felt it, but I ignored it. I should have done something to keep her safe."" His Lamentations were endless and his reasons to blame himself for the predicament of Neriah was also unending. It was evident to Raknar that his brother was in pain.
He had come home thinking just like the information that had reached him mid-sea, he would find his brother in a marriage with an elven princess where they shared nothing but hate for one another. But far from it. He had not expected to see his brother cling to a woman possessively. The same woman who according to his sources had almost taken his head to get out of the marriage with him.
