Chapter 102. Did she run away?
Chapter 102: 102. Did she run away?
"Eliza, where is my wife?" Barak asked as he entered the hall where he had expected to see her. He had gone to Regina for help and had gotten a long list of things to do to turn his marriage around for the better. He had explained everything to her not leaving out a single detail because he trusted her to keep things to herself. She even told him that his wife had someone she was seeing before he came along and snatched her.
Based on his entire story, his dear Regina had gone on to scold him that more than half of his current marital problems was his fault and then given him an endless list of things to do to gain the trust and love of his wife.
They had spent hours discussing the matter, moving from the training ground to a small patio where they had breakfast and lunch together all the while continuing the topic in between.
"I’m afraid I do not know, Your Highness. She had informed me that she would send for me today, but when I did not hear from her, I came here on my own. And I have been waiting ever since. All I was told by her maid was that she went down into the capital for some sightseeing." Eliza explained.
"Sightseeing." He repeated her words. "I see." His brows furrowed as he thought over the words again. "You should return for now Eliza. The day is half lost already."
She bowed respectfully as he turned and walked out of the room.
"Have any of you seen Farhan?" He asked the guards as he stepped out of the door.
"No, Your Highness. He left for the Rana palace and has not returned." One of them explained.
"I see." He turned to walk away but then he paused, "Send for Aria, my wife’s personal maid. Have her meet me on the patio at Amethyst lake. And if Farhan returns, send him to me too." He ordered and walked away.
Sitting with his elbows on the table and his fingers intertwined in front of him, Barak could not help but feel uneasy. It was strange that she went out alone. Without her maid.
His eyes suddenly drifted to the bunch of red geranium flowers that he had handpicked for her.
Reg had told him that it was clear that his dear wife had been pampered all her life, and advised that he tried being sweeter to her. When he had asked how much sweeter he had to be, she asked him if he had ever gotten his wife anything like a wedding gift since they tied the knot.
And the answer was a big No.
She told him to start little by little... It was her idea to get flowers. He had never gifted anyone flowers before, but when they had gone into her family’s garden together and she had asked him to choose any flower he wanted for Neriah, he had seen the geranium.
There were many red flowers in the garden, but he was drawn to that particular one. He also did not know why, but he had picked the red geranium and now here he was with the flower he picked for his dear wife who was now nowhere to be found.
"Greetings to you, Your Highness." The familiar voice pulled him back to reality. "You sent for me?" Barak lifted his head and the lines on his forehead thickened as he saw something so very similar to disdain on the face of the woman, but then it was gone. Her face was straight once again. What was that just now? Why did she look at him like that?
"Aye, Where is your mistress?" He went straight to the point.
"My princess originally was a young lady with a free spirit. Having been on a ship for almost a month, and then being kept inside the palace amidst unfamiliar people, she felt choked up and so she went out to see the capital for a while."
He was not conjuring things in his head. There was definitely something different with the way she spoke to him too. She tried to hide it but he could clearly hear it in her voice... The annoyance. Or maybe she was not even trying to hide it at all. And it made him wonder, what could have caused this sudden change from the woman?
Was it something he did? Or better still, was it something Neriah claimed he did? He wondered. His eyes moved from Aria to the flowers that laid on the table.
"Fine. Be gone." He waved his hand lightly and she instantly turned and matched away. Aria was not completely out of view when he saw Farhan coming up to him.
"You Highness," Farhan bowed his head to his master.
"Farhan, details." He simply said.
"Her highness seemed normal, but suspicious at the same time."
"How exactly?"
"For a woman who has no one but her maid and fairy, it felt strange that she would wish to go sightseeing all alone. Would she not rather have a companion with whom she could communicate with and exchange pleasant thoughts with as they walked through the kingdom together?" The man asked with his hand stroking his chin brilliantly.
"Indeed, I thought the same thing. She is attached to her maid and fairy, why go alone unless she had something to hide from the maid too." He muttered to himself.
"But then again Your Highness, like I said, she did seem normal enough."
"Did she say where?"
"Alison’s store. I put two men on her tail as I feared you would be worried for her safety."He said proudly and Barak nodded in acknowledgement.
"How long have they been gone?" He asked.
"About five hours, Your highness." Farhan calculated and Barak’s head was running in different directions. She would not try to run away would she? But her maid and fairy, she would not leave without them.
But then again, what if they offered to stay behind for her sake like they had once done back in Avelah?
Was she really planning to run away?
