Chapter 103: 103. Leave me be!
But that would be foolish, people who came into Trago and citizens of Trago were all given a certain identification plaque and there was no going out without such a plaque. He was yet to hand hers over to her, so running away would be very dumb, because there was no way out!
"But she does not know that." He muttered to himself again. "Could she really have tried to run away?"
"Oh no, Your Highness. She did no such thing." Farhan quickly said.
"How can you know that? You do not know that woma—"
"But she has already returned." Farhan said with his hand pointing toward a certain direction.
"What?"
"Just as I was coming to see you, her carriage came in and I saw her step out of it."
"Why did you not say that earlier!" Farhan jolted as Barak slammed his hand on the table.
Snatching the bunch of flowers from the table, Barak rushed past Farhan and went in search of his wife.
...
Entering their room, the first thing Barak noticed were the boxes and bags that were placed near the door. It was as if the servants hurriedly left without even arranging whatever were in those bags and boxes.
Was she tired? Barak wondered as he saw her small figure curled up in the center of their matrimonial bed. Silently Barak walked up to her, he climbed atop the bed and she still did not move. Her back was still turned to him and he wondered if she had fallen asleep so quickly.
He placed a gentle hand on her head, tenderly moving her hair from the side of her face, "Leave me be. I wish to be alone." She spoke, allowing him to know she was not sleeping.
"I heard you went into town today, alone?" It was a question that didn’t necessarily need to be answered, but he wanted her to tell him something.... Anything.
"Just leave me alone." She murmured, "Am I not allowed to go out of the walls of the royal castle? I thought I was supposed to be your wife, or am I actually a prisoner? Is this palace my prison?"
"Neriah I—"
"Just leave me alone!" She snapped, turning her head to look at him, but instantly burning it back into the bed... But not before he saw how red and swollen they had become.
He really enjoyed seeing her tears, they were usually beautiful... but not when he was not the cause of her tears. His hand that held the flowers clenched tight.
"What happened there?" He asked. "Neriah tell me, I will not know the reason for your predicaments if you do not tell them to me. So tell me, did anything happen while you were out?" He demanded but she remained stiff and unresponsive.
"Neriah what—"
"Curse you, you bastard!" She suddenly snapped and sat up straight on the bed. "Will it damn you to leave me be! I said I wish to be alone, why do you stress me so!!" She yelled.
Barak’s hand hung in the air as he watched her let out her rage on him. Again, he wondered what could have possibly happened to trigger such sudden outburst.
"Why is it hard for you to understand?! Are you dumb! Leave my sight! I do not wish to speak with you, I do not wish to see you, and I hate that I am even forced to breathe the same air with you! Leave me be!! Get out!!" She screamed and laid back down on the bed, turning her back to him yet again.
Silently, he stared at her slim back, he stretched his hand, reaching to touch her slender shoulder, wishing to stroke her hair and comfort her in any way possible but he saw her tremble as though she could feel that he wanted to touch her and she rejected it so he withdrew his hand.
"I—I have something for," He paused and stared at the flowers he picked for her. "Rest." Without any further words from him, he rose to his feet and walked out of the room.
Moments after he had left, Neriah remained in the same position, staring blankly at the setting sun as she replayed the words of her lover over and over again in her head.
She thought it would be simple... She had really thought that like magic, if she laid eyes on her beloved again, she would just disappear with him, Aria and Riri and they would be gone from this place and live happily ever after. But...
"It is as I said, Neriah... Barak Der Drache has to die."
From the first day they met, Neriah’s major plan was to kill the man called Barak. Even when she did not know his name, she had hatched up a plan to frame him and take his life so killing him meant nothing to her.
It meant absolutely nothing to her but what was this feeling? Why did it seem like a string inside her chest was cut? Lyle said they had to kill him. Killing him was no big deal at all.
So why? Why was she feeling sick?
"L_Lyle what do you mean?" She had managed to ask the question that almost choked her.
He pushed her head from his chest gently and held her face between his palms. In the darkness of the room she could not see his eyes clearly, they were darkened in some sort of way.
"Neriah, think about it, my love. I thought I would be able to just snatch you out of this barbaric place but that will not be wise."
"H_how so?"
"When I got here, I happened to come across some people. According to them, the prince whom you are married to is a beast. They say he was not kind, not even to his own kind. They say he was a man who went to great lengths to pursue his enemy and when finally caught, he ripped them apart slowly, burning bits and parts of their body before their own eyes."
