The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride -
Chapter 175: Your missing daughter is here.
Chapter 175: Your missing daughter is here.
"Forgive me, Your Majesty. I didn’t mean..."
The King raised his palm, cutting him off. "I know exactly what you mean. Your grandfather is on his way, bringing an army with him. Should I expect you to try and claim the throne while he does?"
Dankin shot to his feet, bowing deeply to the King. "Of course not! I have no intention of..."
"Shush, relax," the King interrupted coldly. "I know you wouldn’t dare stand against me. You know well enough that I could order Sunkiath to incinerate the entire House Kalia without hesitation. Just don’t make the mistake of rushing to take my place, kid!"
The King’s words were a brazen threat, his tone as sharp as the edges of ice. He was the King of Kings, did this naïve boy truly believe he could challenge not just the people, but rogue, power-hungry kings too? The same kings who’d use their power to strangle another King in his bed, sending a beautiful whore with big breasts to do their bidding? Just like how Araben had tried to kill Kaisun and Ren... and how Dankin’s very own sister could be used as a pawn. House Al-Delone would treasure to exploit the odds.
"Dan, leave me with your father," the King dismissed him curtly.
Dankin’s face turned as red as blood, and though he had done nothing to provoke his uncle, he could tell that the King was far from pleased. It wasn’t unusual for the King to be in a foul mood, but today, it felt particularly severe.
As the door closed behind Dankin, the King leaned forward. "Alekin, is there something you’re hiding from me about your daughter?"
Alekin sighed heavily. "Gods, Araben? Did she cause more trouble?"
The King raised an eyebrow. "Has she caused trouble before?"
Lord Alekin’s face paled, his chubby cheeks turning an anxious shade of pink. "She’s done something terrible! I... I just couldn’t let it leak. Her grandfather dotes on her too much."
The King’s expression grew colder. "Alekin, I know what she’s done. But I don’t care about Araben, not at the moment! She is vile, we cannot change that. I’m talking about Gloria D’Orient!"
Lord Alekin’s mouth fell open in shock.
Above the building, the clouds parted, letting a sudden beam of sunlight cross the window and illuminate the King’s face, casting a sharp, almost unsettling light upon him.
"Why are you talking about dead people? Do you know what this matter means to me? I failed to send her to a safe place." Lord Alekin’s voice shook, though he tried to maintain composure.
The King, using his bond with the dragon, searched Alekin’s feelings, his aura. He saw the truth: Alekin didn’t know. Azrael had been wrong.
"Brother, if I tell you that your daughter is alive and was saved by a slave family, what would you do?"
Alekin’s breath hitched, his eyes widening. "I would have kept her away from Araben... and Minister Karon."
The King leaned back in his chair, setting the goblet down with a deliberate clink. He drummed his fingers on the table, his gaze fixed on Alekin. "If I told you, not revealing her existence would put her life in danger, would you accept that I announce her?"
Lord Alekin jolted, rising from his seat, his breath catching in his throat. "Is she truly alive?"
The King nodded. "Yes, she was rescued and lived in Thegara. She became a maid and used to serve Reneira. She doesn’t want you. She loves her foster family."
The light in Lord Alekin’s face dimmed, the weight of the news settling heavily on him. His daughter didn’t know him. It was not how he planned. He wanted her to be in a safe place but knew him as a good stranger. But fate worked its way differently.
"Is it really necessary to announce her?" Alekin asked, his voice small, weakly desperate.
The King’s expression hardened. "I’ve made a deal with the Fae King."
Alekin tilted his head, his confusion palpable. "They know?"
"Yes, you guessed right. We couldn’t keep it a secret any longer. That bastard Lutherieth is after our daughters. I have to announce my heir. I’ll make a blood oath with her, so when I die, Sunkiath will have a new rider!" The King’s voice was firm, his resolve clear.
Lord Alekin slumped in his chair, his face pale with shock. "Her? Who?"
The King’s eyes narrowed, his voice lowering. "Reneira cannot have the Ruby Throne, and I won’t choose anyone with the blood of House Kalia. The next ruler of the Seven Kingdoms will be your daughter, Gloria. Her mother came from House Qowen, the second most powerful house in Alvonia. We need to end the hatred between our two houses after Marianne’s death. She can bring us a great alliance."
Alekin shook his head in disbelief. "Our foes will kill her! No one will accept an uneducated woman on the Ruby Throne."
"They can try, and I’ll kill them all." The King’s words were a deadly promise. "And you don’t need to tell anyone she’s uneducated. Reneira has been teaching her, and she loves her like a sister."
Lord Alekin’s face flushed with embarrassment and shame. "I’ve never treated Reneira well..."
"You’re a jerk," the King replied, his voice cold.
Lord Alekin struggled to hold back tears. "How do you know all of this?"
The King leaned in slightly, his tone was as solid as rocks. "Kaisun’s brother is the Lord of Death. He came to hunt Lutherieth and saw your daughter. Only a drop of blood can reveal royal lineage..."
The King shared everything with him, though he left out any mention of his plans for Araben. That was something he didn’t need to ask permission for.
"Your only duty is to help me kill one person for the crimes he’s committed."
Lord Alekin’s eyes narrowed. "Who is that person, brother?"
"Your chancellor," the King answered grimly. "He’s been aiding the sorcerers. Every assassin we’ve caught has killed himself. Last night, they tried to kill our dear sister."
The Lord of Zillgaira looked as though he might lose his mind. "Someone tried to kill Eve? She’s harmless."
"Yes," the King replied sharply. "But she has informants everywhere. And I believe your wife has a hand in this. I’m going to warn her, and I will execute her uncle."

The King arranged a private meeting between his brother and Gloria in his study. Ren carefully prepared a dress for Gloria, insisting that she wear it. She combed her hair, and then braided it, ensuring everything was in place before summoning Kai to create a portal. No one could see Gloria leaving her chambers. If anyone noticed the Lord speaking to her, it could stir unnecessary jealousy.
