Chapter 176: Sulking?

Chapter 176: Sulking?

Ren held Gloria’s trembling hands, "Don’t worry. Rail is with you," Ren reassured her.

Ren tried to ease Gloria’s nerves. "I cannot think of him as my father. And I feel guilty to see him. My parents told me to stay away from him."

"No one’s asking you to accept him," Ren said, her tone soft but firm. "Meet him first. After that, I’ll take you to Sunkiath. And remember what I told you about touching the dragon?" Ren did her best to change her mood.

Gloria couldn’t deny the flutter of excitement in her chest. Who would have imagined that her dream of seeing a dragon would come true so soon?

"You are ready!" She kissed her cheek and sent her to the shadow Portal that Kai formed.

After escorting Gloria and Rail to their room, Kai returned to their chambers with a playful glint in his eyes. "I’ve gotten you a gift."

He pulled a small jewelry box from his pocket, the edges of it catching the soft light. "I should have given this to you sooner, love."

Ren’s lips curled into a sweet smile as she took the box, her fingers brushing against his for a moment before opening it.

"Gods, this ring is exquisite!" she exclaimed, her eyes widening.

"This belonged to the first human Queen of Thegara. My mother."

Ren’s brows furrowed in surprise. "Kai, this... this is too much."

He shook his head, his expression sincere. "Your worth is far more than this."

Ren rose onto her toes, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. "Wear it?" she asked, her voice a mixture of surprise and wonder.

Ren nodded, and with a tender smile, Kai carefully plucked the ring from its case and slid it onto her forefinger. The diamond at the center shimmered like a star, nestled within the delicate design of a lily flower.

Kai opened his mouth as though to speak, but for a moment, the words seemed to escape him.

"Say it!" Ren demanded, her voice teasing but soft.

Kai bent forward, his hands gripping her arms with a firm but gentle urgency. "Let me just use shadow magic at the banquet and make Araben confess. Why should I let her poison you?"

His brow furrowed in concern, his gaze intense.

Ren took a deep breath, her voice steady despite the tension in the room. "I understand your worries, but remember, your brother is already among the guests. I know he is, but I cannot recognize him, and neither can you. Not even Azrael can. We cannot make it so easy for our enemies to win."

Kai’s hands released her arms, and he ran a panicked hand through his hair, shaking his head in frustration.

"I can’t!"

Ren’s voice softened, but her words were resolute. "Kai, don’t do this. We can’t condemn a noblewoman for killing people in the brothel. She might get away with killing commoners, but no one will forgive her for killing me. They’ll cast her out."

Kai let out a wild, almost hysterical laugh. "I want her dead as much as I want Luther dead."

Ren stepped forward, her expression softening as she took his hand, gently guiding him to sit down. She caressed his face with her delicate, slender thumb, the touch soothing him.

"If we kill her, Karon Kalia will rise against us."

Kai didn’t argue. He agreed with King Benkin. Ren was far too forgiving. But that didn’t make it right. She shouldn’t be so merciful. Against her better judgment, Karon Kalia would undoubtedly rise to claim the throne for his grandson, no matter the cost. Even if they don’t kill Ara.

Kai’s voice broke the awkward silence. "When are you going for that gossip tea party?"

Gossip tea party? Ren couldn’t help but giggle at the absurdity of it. Kai’s face was wearing that ridiculously cute expression again.

"What do you mean, ’gossip tea party’?"

Kai gestured dramatically, striking a pose as though he were a self-righteous monk. "You’re going to gossip behind my back, painting me as a lustful monster who can’t control himself when he sees women."

Ren raised an eyebrow, her teasing grin widening. "Who said I’d only talk about you bedding women?"

Kai frowned, momentarily speechless, before deciding to poke fun at her playful banter. "Who said I didn’t have male consorts? Among the Fae, it’s quite regular, you know."

Ren’s joy abruptly dissipated. Now she had to worry about Fae males too? Her eyes narrowed. "What?"

Kai casually shrugged his shoulders as he stood and walked toward the door. "I have a spanking duet with the great knight Filoy Darsein. Would you like to watch?"

Ren grimaced, sulking as she crossed her arms, giving him the cold shoulder. She wasn’t exactly thrilled at the prospect of watching a performance that was bound to be a disaster. And, he didn’t answer the question.

"The gossip tea party will be after the banquet," she added, her voice a little sharper. "Aunt Eve suggested you dance with Josa to attract attention and make it believable."

Kai snorted in amusement as he swung the door open. "Coming?"

Ren tossed a lock of her hair over her shoulder, her gaze cool and confident. "Hm, I’m your mate. No male Fae can win my husband."

Kai barely held back his laughter. She was his little jealous wife, and he loved it.

As they walked toward the training field, a smirk tugged at the corner of Kai’s lips.

Later on the field...

"This place is too small. If winning here makes you a knight, then all my men must be elite," he mocked, glancing at the King as he took a seat next to him.

The King of Alvonia chuckled, a prideful glint in his eyes. "I never trained my elites here. I ripped their ass off in my private field. You’ve seen them fight. They consume potions, and their skills rival your men’s."

The King leaned back, bragging about the elite warriors he’d trained as if his words could somehow elevate their worth.

"Eh? Tell me, who was your training master, King Ben?" Kai taunted, a smirk dancing across his lips.

"Can you please stop arguing?" Aunt Eve’s voice rang out, sharp and stern, as the two of them began their usual back-and-forth.

The training field was surrounded by tall stone walls, narrow corridors, and balconies that led to other parts of the castle. The air was thick with the sounds of warriors sparring and the rhythmic pounding of feet against the ground.

Ren clapped her hands in appreciation for the feline warriors who had just bested a human commander. Her eyes sparkled with admiration.

Kai let out a low, slightly annoyed growl.

’Wife, do you like this so much?’ he asked through their bond, his tone colored with amusement but tinged with irritation.
