The Devil's Good Girl -
Chapter 92: Slap of truth
Chapter 92: Slap of truth
Fil wasn’t that unfamiliar with cameras and how things work behind the scenes. Although this was the first time she would be in a music video where she would have to play a role, she was familiar with what to do after watching Marianne in the past behind the cameras.
After going through the script with Anton in the car, they went inside the studio to meet the director and other people who would be working on the video. They first introduced the song to her, which Anton already did.
Since it wasn’t the music video’s official filming, both simply stood in front of the camera. Fil and Anton sat beside each other, getting their pictures taken. Even during the meeting, they had to sit beside each other so everyone could see their spark of chemistry. Although both are good-looking, their chemistry is still important. They didn’t want their individual visuals to overpower the chemistry if they were put in a single frame.
"Uh, Fil!" Anton called, jogging to catch up to Fil after their one-hour meeting.
Fil halted, looking back at the entrance of the building. "What?"
"Uh... ahem!" he cleared his throat, stopping before her. "Thanks for today."
"I didn’t do much, but you’re welcome."
"They said we have great chemistry," he added, scratching the back of his head. "And that we should shoot the music video as soon as possible."
"When is this as soon as possible?"
"They wanted to do it tomorrow and asked me to convince you," he said, making her brows furrow. "But I told them we can’t do that."
"You?"
Anton sighed. "I know I might have... I mean, I was crossing your boundaries so shamelessly. I didn’t know that because I thought it was okay with you."
’You didn’t know that because you weren’t taught a lesson. You’re someone who had to be hurt a couple of times before you actually learn a lesson,’was the argument she kept to herself.
"So, I want to know when is your day off?"
"I’m free this weekend."
"Weekend..."
"Why? Is it not possible?"
"No!" he smiled brightly. "It’s perfect!"
"Then, okay."
"I’ll pick you up?"
"Hmm..."
"Shooting a music video can be tiring, you know? Although we can finish it in one day, it’s still an entire day of work," he explained, just in case she didn’t know his intention. "Don’t worry. I won’t drop you off using my car. You can ride with me in the van. It’s the least I can do."
Fil observed Anton quietly.
Among Vincent’s friends, Anton was the most harmless of all. Although he was a pothead, he was slightly a nice person. At least, he wasn’t as pretentious as Marcus, who portrayed himself as the purest among all of them. He was also unlike Michael, who was proud of things he should be ashamed of, and he was not like the narcissistic Vincent.
To be fair, Anton was still redeemable.
It was just a shame that Anton had friends like them. Thus, to keep up with his friends and hold on to something like friendship, he had to be on the same wavelength as them. Fil knew, because one way or another, she was like Anton in the past. She tried her best to fit in.
"Then, weekend it is. Send me the time and everything I need to know," she spoke again after a brief silence. "I’m going home now."
"Uh, alright!" Anton smiled in relief. "Take care, bye!"
He watched Fil walk toward the parking space. But then, she stopped and looked back at him. His brows rose when she walked back to him.
"What?" he asked, backing away nervously. "Did you change your mind? Or did you have prior commitments on the weekend and you just remembered it now?"
"Trust me. I don’t forget important commitments," she reassured. "I just want to ask a little favor from you."
"Huh?"
"Can you not tell your friends about this?"
"About the music video?" he clarified in a questioning tone. "Why?"
"Because I don’t want Vincent to know about it."
"Oh." Anton rocked his head, reminded that Fil and Vincent recently ended their long relationship. "Right."
"Vincent and I didn’t end well. I don’t want him meddling with my affairs."
Anton chuckled nervously. "Right? He might go ballistic and ruin the filming."
"He might accuse you of flirting with his ex."
"Bullshit!"
"I know, but that nonsense is the reason I’m single." She smiled, tapping his shoulder mildly. "Don’t say anything."
"But what about when it’s released?" he panicked. "Once the music video is released, they might see it."
Her smile stretched, chuckling. "Would they even watch it?" she pointed out playfully before turning on her heel to walk away.
Meanwhile, Anton stood in the same spot, eyes on her back. From his vantage point, he could see her truck and Fil getting in.
"Would they even watch it?" he repeated the words she told him so recklessly. "Hah!"
A ridiculing laugh escaped him, rocking his head while poking his inner cheek with his tongue. It wasn’t like Anton didn’t know his friends hadn’t watched his music videos or played his songs. The only ones they knew were the hit songs they heard from others.
Anton knew that.
He knew that his friends were busy; they had careers to work on. However, hearing it from someone else with such a playful and sarcastic tone was quite disappointing. It was like a slap.
"So, if I don’t tell them about it, they won’t know?" he scoffed once more, getting more irritated. "Just how many times did I push back my schedule just to attend their parties to support a friend?"
Anton clicked his tongue, ruffling his hair in irritation. He turned around, kicking the air, a deep frown on his face. He didn’t know why he suddenly felt sour and bitter, but the mere thought that none of his friends had been supporting him ever since was ridiculous.
"At least, Fil used to listen to them," he grumbled, remembering that Fil had been streaming his songs even when he was just starting his career. She knew all of his songs and even memorized the lyrics. Hence, she was the only person in the group he could talk to about his music. "She is even helping me with my music video. I guess she’s the only real friend I have."
Unbeknownst to Anton, Fil was observing him through the side mirror. The quirk on her lips stretched into a devious smirk. Sometimes, one could know the truth and would think it was okay until they got slapped by it. By then, it felt different.
"You’re welcome, Anton." A glint flickered across her eyes, setting her gaze on the windshield. "I know how it feels to get slapped by the truth you tried to rationalize. It hurts."
