Chapter 91: I’ll hurt you
One highlight of Anton’s album was a rap ballad song. The music video was just as he described it. This one was more heartfelt than the usual music videos he had released before.
The storyline was about typical lovers. At first, they would be happy, carefree, and purely in love. Slowly, because of circumstances, the lovers would grow distant. They would start ignoring each other, stop what they used to do, and fight a lot until the relationship was only full of pain.
"This is interesting," Fil murmured, reading the storyline Anton’s staff handed to her. "So the twist is..."
"Tell them to give me ten minutes." Anton ignored Fil, who was still in the driver’s seat. He rolled down the window, telling his staff to give them another several minutes to recover.
It had been ten minutes since they arrived at the studio. However, Anton couldn’t step out because his knees hadn’t yet recovered its strength. Thus, he called his assistant to brief Fil while they were still there.
"We didn’t crash," said Fil with a frown, studying her dramatic passenger. "Also, I was careful."
Anton gasped, looking at Fil in disbelief. "Filomena, no matter how careful you are, how come your car breaks down in the middle of the highway?"
"It didn’t break. It.... stopped for a moment."
"Ah, god." Anton clicked his tongue and turned to his staff, who was standing outside the car. "Get me my keys and give it to this lady. She’d kill herself sooner than she should."
"Relax." Fil smacked her lips. "It’s normal. I’ve been driving this truck for years now, so I know how to operate it. Also, who are you to give me one of your cars? Am I a charity to you?"
"The car is a payment for the music video."
"I don’t want a car."
Anton hissed, huffing, as he could still remember all the details of her reckless driving. He was unsure if she did it on purpose, but he would never ride a car with her behind the wheel. Her car’s condition added more anxiety throughout the ride. It kept stopping in the middle of the highway. He almost jumped out of the truck when they almost crashed into the back of a big truck.
"Just give it a rest. Next time, don’t show up in front of my workplace and stir trouble," Fil casually remarked as she leaned back. "I’d be extra careful then."
"You — you did that on purpose?"
"I’m upset."
"Filomena!"
"What?" she cocked her head to the side. "I don’t like it when people do things that involve me without my consent. You’re lucky I don’t have plans tonight, but if I did, I wouldn’t put down the things I need to do just to help you with your music video."
Anton opened and closed his mouth, rendered speechless by her straightforward remarks. This wasn’t the Filomena he knew.
"Fil, not because you dressed up nicely now, doesn’t mean you have the license to be mean," he blurted out in disbelief. "If you didn’t like what I did, then you could just say so. You didn’t have to scare the hell out of me."
"I told you before," she responded quickly, making his brows furrowed. "Four months ago. Remember that time I had to meet my colleagues? But you suddenly showed up and basically abducted me. I remember telling you to give me a notice beforehand, yet you proved today that asking nicely won’t work."
Anton’s expression relaxed a little, brows knitted together.
"If setting up boundaries is mean to you, then I guess you’re asking a very mean person for help," she continued, watching him look up at her again. "I’m not here because I needed a side gig. I am here to help because, one way or another, I consider you as a friend. Even though Vincent and I have broken up."
"I don’t have a reason to tolerate those who don’t respect my boundaries anymore," she added firmly. "Because next time, this little scare isn’t what you’re just going to get from me. I’ll hurt you."
Anton leaned back, almost shrinking and fusing with the seat. His eyes remained on Fil, gulping the invisible lump in his throat. Fil spoke without a second hesitation, not sugarcoating her message like usual. If anything, she didn’t seem to care if Anton got angry.
"Fil, you’re scary," Anton almost whimpered, squeezing himself into the corner.
"You should be." Fil tapped the script against the steering wheel lightly. "Do you still want to be in this music video?"
"Uh..."
"It’s fine if you don’t."
"No!" Anton denied defensively. "It’s not like that! I already recommended you, so you still have to try it!"
"And if not?"
"Then that means we got to postpone its release, which is a bad thing. I told them to stop the audition, so... I’d be under fire if this didn’t work. I’m still under strict probation after the last scandal I was in."
Fil narrowed her eyes. "You should listen to your managers more. Or was he incompetent to always let you have it your way?" she shook her head, imagining Anton’s stubbornness getting in the way.
This guy right here might be a talented lad; he was gifted with many talents and great looks. The only problem he got was he always tried to prove he was also smart. He wasn’t that sharp, especially in management skills. Hence, she wasn’t surprised to hear his stupid reasoning.
"If I’m doing you this favor, I hope I made myself clear today," she stressed, and he nodded profusely. "Or else, consider your music video release delayed."
"I promise!" he raised a hand to his side. "Next time, I won’t just show up. I’ll give you details: time, date, and even if there’s an emergency where I need your presence! I’ll give you a heads-up and won’t do anything until you give me the green signal!"
Fil studied his expression for a moment before she nodded in satisfaction. "Very well then," she expressed. "Now, let’s talk about this storyline before we get in. We don’t want to postpone your music video released, right?"
"Yes, ma’am!"
