The Devil's Good Girl
Chapter 60: You’re so confusing!

Chapter 60: You’re so confusing!

The thought of Fil introducing Jackson to her parents was truly a scary idea. Her relationship with Jackson was plain odd. It was built on revenge and sexual benefits. Although he would keep joking about wanting to be the legal "wife", they were nothing but jokes.

Jackson was the type to spew a bunch of nonsense. He could keep talking for an entire day, but wouldn’t make sense one bit. Therefore, she tried her best to divert her attention by talking about the party and her plans. He listened, like always. When they finished their meal, Fil quickly excused herself to the bathroom to wash up.

"I’m losing my mind, am I?" she murmured, staring at the mirror after showering. "He’s only here because he wants... that."

Fil slapped her cheeks, shaking her head to keep it straight. She only knew Jackson for over a week. She couldn’t afford to entertain ridiculous thoughts just because he liked her mom’s dishes. There were still many on her plates, and her relationship with Jackson was mostly sexual. Nothing more, nothing less. Maybe a little bit of friendship, but that was all!

"That’s right," she told herself, eyes burning in determination. "This is nothing but a relationship with benefits. Once everything is over — once we’re fed up and done — we’ll pretend that we don’t even know each other."

The only reason Jackson was lingering around her was because he found her predicament amusing. Although he didn’t say that, Fil already concluded in her mind. Having Jackson around might be flattering and ego-boosting, but she couldn’t afford to let that in her head.

That man... was too attractive and financially capable enough to get any woman he wanted. It would be too foolish for her to believe he would take her seriously. She couldn’t be that stupid anymore.

’Just let things stay as they were,’ she told herself. ’It’s nice to have him around, but I shouldn’t dream of more than that.’

Fil forced a smile, knowing her feelings were nothing, but an emotion formed in a confusing time. As long as she was aware of the boundaries and lines she shouldn’t cross, she and her heart would be safe. She stayed in the bathroom for a while, not bothering to wear anything but a robe, knowing he would just take it off.

That was what he came for, and it was better if they would just do it.

Sex would distract her, and it would satisfy him. It was a win-win situation. It might be degrading if she thought about it, but she already jumped in the rabbit hole.

However, when Fil stepped out of the bathroom, Jackson wasn’t in the bedroom, just as she expected. Deep lines appeared between her brows, confused.

"I thought he would be waiting for me in the bed, naked," she blushed, feeling a little embarrassed. "Where is he, then?"

Fil marched outside the bedroom, peeking her head out. The television in the living area was on, but Jackson wasn’t there. Thus, she stepped out of the bedroom upon hearing noises in the kitchen. When she went to the kitchen, all she saw was his tall figure doing the dishes.

"What are you doing?" she blurted out, watching him glance over his shoulder.

"Jumping on a trampoline," he replied sarcastically. "I’m washing the dishes, obviously."

"I know, but... why?"

"Sweetheart, you said it yourself. The food smells and the plates won’t wash themselves."

Fil opened and closed her mouth, biting her tongue.

"Are you trying to impress me?" she whispered, advancing into the kitchen to where he was. "If so, I am. Very much."

"Heh," Jackson smirked proudly. But much to his surprise, a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around his waist from behind.

Fil locked her hands on his stomach, resting the side of her head on his broad back. "I can do this, right?" she muttered, smiling.

"You can, but now my heart is racing."

"It does?" Fil raised her hand to his chest, pouting when she felt it beat normally. "You’re lying."

"I’m not." He smiled, continuing to rinse the dishes. "I don’t normally have a heartbeat."

What nonsense was that? But Fil didn’t dwell on it.

"You know, my dad always hugged my mother like this whenever she was cooking or doing the dishes. I’ve always thought it was beautiful and heart-warming." Fil smacked her lips, embracing him from behind. "But when I found out about Vincent’s infidelity, I also knew I might not experience something like this."

Jackson washed the last piece of glass and put it on the rack. He then slowly turned around, facing her with curiosity in his eyes. He propped his back against the edge of the sink, pulling her closer. Fil instinctively rested her arms on his chest, pulling her head back to give their faces distance.

"What else did you think you might not experience when you found out about his affair?" he inquired curiously. "I’m curious."

"Why do you want to know?"

"I might just make your wish come true."

Fil pursed her lips, pondering. "You will find them boring."

"Try me."

"Well, this is so sudden. I need time to think."

"Should we make a list?" he suggested. "Come. I just got a great idea."

Jackson held her arm as he straightened his back, dragging her back to the living room. When they reached their destination, he quickly sat down on the floor and reached for the pen and paper on the coffee table. Fil, on the other hand, awkwardly sat on the couch.

"What are you doing?" she asked, watching him hand her a paper and pen.

"Making a list," he answered. "Of what we want to experience."

"Oh..." Fil rocked her head, slowly shifting to the floor. "Are you sure?"

Jackson furrowed his brows. "Am I sure?"

"I mean, it’s getting late." Fil massaged her nape, embarrassed to spell it out for him. "And I might fall asleep. So, you might wait for tomorrow to get what you came here for."

"I already got it."

"What?"

"What did you think I came here for, sweetheart?"

"Huh?"

"I came because I wanted to feed you and see you." He blinked innocently before a mischievous smile dominated his face. "Don’t tell me..."

His eyes slowly fell on the deep V-line of her bathrobe. "What a perverted, nasty girl."

"It’s not what you think it is!" she denied, warranting a laugh from him. "Goodness. You’re so confusing!"

Fil angrily snatched the pen and paper, nose flaring as she started scribbling on the paper. Jackson, on the other hand, smiled as he watched her.

"That’s true, though," he said in a deep baritone, making her lift her eyes on him. "I came here not to bend you down. I just want to see you."

And just like that, the cursed thumping sound in her heart rang in her ears.
