The Devil's Good Girl
Chapter 61: Should we do that?

Chapter 61: Should we do that?

"Do you find it amusing?" Jackson whispered, playing with her stray hairs with his fingertips. "That we can survive without taking off our clothes? Because I do."

The corner of his mouth curled up as his eyelids drooped, staring at her affectionately. After teasing her for a bit, Fil scribbled on her paper like a madwoman. She didn’t talk to him. Even if she would, she would glare daggers at him. It was cute, giving him a good laugh now and then. Until she eventually fell asleep on top of her paper.

"I thought you were a hard worker?" he wondered. "You used to pull all-nighters, go on without sleep for days. And yet, just writing what you want to experience made you sleep."

Jackson carefully pulled the paper underneath her arms. As he did so, he accidentally ripped the tip of the paper, making him stop for a moment. He glanced at her. She was still sound asleep.

"Come on now," he chuckled, lifting her arm to take the paper. When he got what he wanted, he put down her arm gently. Jackson straightened his back, lifting the paper in front of him.

Deep lines appeared between his brows as he laid his eyes on her "list." Fil didn’t write anything. Instead, she drew a miniature size building. His eyes softened as he smiled subtly, looking back at her.

"That’s not fair," he sighed, picking up his paper where he scribbled gibberish circles and hearts in between. "I guess the pressure was high for the both of us."

Jackson put down their papers, setting his eyes back to her. His smile remained, almost chuckling at their output. Both of them didn’t write a single sentence of what they were supposed to write. In his defense, it never crossed him what he wanted to experience more in this life. He already had done everything he could think of.

’Heh.’He cupped his jaw, eyes fixed on her. "Does waking up next to you every morning and having you as my last memory every night count?"

He slowly lowered his head until it was on the coffee table. Yet his eyes never left her.

"What did you like about him?" he wondered, tucking a portion of her hair behind her ear. "I wonder... what he did to make you go crazy? Was there a secret recipe?"

A light chuckle escaped him, enjoying talking to her even though she was sound asleep. "Say, do you always sleep with men around you? Or was it just with me? And why?"

This time, Fil let out a short yet loud snore. His brows rose, laughing at the unattractive noise she made. Yet, the unattractiveness was more amusing than nasty.

"Fine." He pushed himself away. "I’ll take you to your bed."

Jackson scooted over to her side, taking her arms and upper body. Fil grunted at the movements. When she opened her eyes, she felt her body leave the place she was in.

"Hah!" Fil clasped his chest on instinct, panicking as she looked around. "What’s going on?"

"I’m taking you to bed," he said, earning her attention. "Sleep more."

Fil slowly gazed up, only to see him looking down at her with a smile. "Wait, I can —" Fil froze when he tightened his hold before he marched toward the bedroom.

"I know you can, but let me," he said without looking at her, pushing the door open with his foot. When he reached the bed, he laid her down and idled on her side with his face over her face.

Fil pressed her lips into a thin line, still processing the situation. It took her a moment to remember she was scribbling out of frustration and then fell asleep.

"Why... why are you not saying anything?" she stuttered quietly.

"Cuddle," he remarked. "Should we do that?"

She blinked and blinked, clipping her fingers on his clothes. "Are you going to sleep over?"

"It won’t be the first time, but can I?"

"Well..." Fil turned her head to the clock on the bedside table. It was almost three in the morning. When she looked back at him. "I’d be more at ease if you stay. It’s late."

"I’ve always stayed." He nodded, smiling.

Jackson lowered his head a little, planting a kiss on her lips. Fil closed her eyes on instinct, expecting a longer kiss. However, he pulled away faster than expected.

"I won’t touch you tonight," he whispered. "So, take as much rest as you want."

’Who told him I want to rest now?’ she thought, biting her tongue to stop herself from saying that aloud. ’That’s embarrassing.’

"Goodnight," she whispered, rolling to her side even when his upper body was still hovering over her. She shut her eyes, adjusting the blanket to cover her body.

As she looked away, his smile stretched mischievously. He pushed himself away, getting out of the bed.

"Where are you going?" she asked as soon as he stood up.

"Check the locks."

"Oh..."

"I’ll be back." He jerked his chin. "Sleep more. It’s best for you if you do."

With that being said, Jackson trudged outside while Fil furrowed her brows.

"It’s best for me?" she repeated, looking down at herself and realizing she was still in a bathrobe. It already dried. "Was he serious?"

Fil bit her lips as she peeked at the shut door. "Why is he suddenly being a gentleman? I’m impressed." She shrugged, sitting upright to grab a pair of pajamas. While changing, Fil paused as she thought about the list they were writing earlier.

"I’m curious. What did he write?" she whispered, narrowing her eyes before smacking her lips. "Did he want to experience something that he never thought he wouldn’t be able to do?"

Her lips stretched into a smile, almost giggling.

"He can be cute sometimes too," she murmured, squeezing her face to stop herself from smiling. "Something’s wrong with me, seriously."

Little did Fil know, while she was busy changing into a pair of comfortable pajamas and taking off her smile, some unwanted visitors were already on the premises of her home.
