The Devil's Good Girl
Chapter 58: Rage

Chapter 58: Rage

Meanwhile...

Silence filled the car as neither Fil nor Vincent talked. Elise, who was in the backseat, pursed her lips. Elise darted her eyes between the driver’s seat and the front passenger seat.

’Did they fight?’she wondered, unaware of what happened back in the bar station. She was too busy chatting with Shanaiah before Fil approached her. Although Fil told her she could stay longer if she wanted to, Elise didn’t want to stay without Fil at the party.

"That’s the place." Fil’s voice slashed through the thick air in the car, pointing at the residential house on the next block.

Vincent said nothing, driving slowly, and pulling over in front of the gated small two-story house. When the car stopped, Fil looked back at Elise with a smile.

"Did you have fun tonight?" asked Fil, and earned a big nod from Elise.

"Mhm! Thank you for taking me to the party!" Elise grinned. "Thank you for driving me home, Mr. Hale."

Vincent just nodded in response, making Elise shift her attention back to Fil.

"Take care on your way," she remarked and mouthed her next words, ’Good luck!’

With that being said, Elise hurriedly hitched outside. When she closed the door, she waved them goodbye and watched the car slowly move away. The smile on her face slowly disappeared, staring at the lights on the car’s rear.

"Tonight was fun," she muttered. "And also disappointing. Did she take me to the party so I see what’s behind the glitz and glamour and what kind of elites those people are? No wonder Kenzo isn’t friends with them even though they went to the same university."

Back in the car, silence once again filled the car as Vincent drove her to her place. Fil didn’t have the energy to talk to him, already used to the silent treatment he would give her. Not that she was interested in livening up the mood.

"Stay away from Marcus." After several minutes, Vincent decided to speak.

Fil looked back at him and asked, "Why?"

"Just do it."

"I can’t."

"Fil."

"You have to give me a reason, Vin," she argued firmly. "I don’t think there’s something Marcus did for me to stay away from him. I almost fell and if not for him, I could’ve gotten hurt."

Vincent’s grip on the steering wheel tightened, pulling over to the side before they entered the main road. He faced her squarely.

"Did you really almost fall, or did you deliberately trip yourself?"

"What?"

"Fil, do you like Marcus?"

Fil scoffed in ridicule, observing the look plastered on his face. She shook her head, secretly amused at that look in his eyes. A part of her wanted to blow up at his audacity, but then again, she had to control her emotions. Losing it now would throw her efforts in the gutter.

"Pfft —" Fil laughed, making him frown. "Are you jealous?"

"Why would I be jealous?" He frowned, letting her hold his hand. "I’m just asking since he held you so close."

"I’m still not used to wearing stilettos. That’s why I lost my balance. If not for Marcus, I would’ve hurt myself. Do you prefer that I get hurt instead?" she pouted, fluttering her eyelashes coquettishly. "That would hurt my heart more than a scape on my knees."

Vincent assessed her beautiful face and soon calmed down. He held her hand back, guiding it to his lips to plant a kiss on the back of her hand. As he looked away for a moment, he missed the disgust that glinted in her eyes.

"I’m sorry," he muttered. "I must have lost my mind."

When he looked up at her, Fil was already smiling in understanding. "It’s just that... I’m not used to it."

"Goodness." Fil squinted her eyes and pouted. "This brings me back to those times in college. Do you remember that time I had a secret admirer? You always throw a tantrum whenever he leaves his gifts."

"That sly bastard," he hissed. "Until now, I beat myself for not catching that bastard."

Fil chuckled while Vincent shifted the gear, going back to the road. He kept on grumbling about Fil’s secret admirer back in college. Even back in high school, Fil wasn’t the most popular. However, she had quite enough admirers.

Not that she regretted turning all those confessions down. However, she never gave anyone a chance because of Vincent.

"Don’t worry." Fil held his hand, nodding at him reassuringly. "Do you trust me, Vin?"

Vincent looked at her from the corner of his eyes, squeezing her hand mildly. "Of course."

"Then you don’t have to worry," she reassured, keeping her eyes on his side profile. "All I need is your undying trust, just like what I give you. I won’t break it... just like you won’t."

Vincent went completely quiet, forcing a smile as he looked back at her. He said nothing anymore after that, driving her back to her place.

"Bye~!" Fil bent down as she rested her hand on the open window of the front passenger seat, looking at Vincent through it. "Take care on your way home."

"Mhm." Vincent smiled back. "Go now."

"Okay." She pushed herself away and turned around, only to stop when he called. "Yes?"

Vincent stretched his upper body to the front passenger seat, looking outside. "I love you."

"I know," she smiled back, nodding. "Goodnight."

Her smile disappeared as soon as she turned her back on him, walking back to the stairs of her apartment. When she reached her floor, she caught the car already moving away instead of waiting for her to enter her place.

"What a fool," she whispered, taking out her phone to make a phone call on her way to her unit. The call connected almost immediately, making her smile.

"I’m home now," she said.

"Are you?" Jackson hummed.

"You don’t believe me?"

"Well, I don’t think you’re home, but maybe close."

Fil stopped and looked around. "You’re not stalking me, are you?"

"Nope. If I do, I’d do that openly," he quipped. "So, how was the party?"

"Well..." Fil resumed her steps and stopped in front of her doorstep. "It feels like I stepped on a pile of dung."

Jackson chuckled while she put her keys in. As soon as she opened the door, deep lines appeared between her brows at the beefy aroma that invaded her nostrils. Her heart instantly thudded, knowing someone intruded in her place.

"Jack," she whispered, keeping her foot inside her apartment while the other was on the outside. "I think someone is in my place."

As soon as those words rolled out of her tongue, she caught a shadow stretching to the entryway from the kitchen. Fil held her breath, frozen on the spot, ready to flee once she saw the intruder’s face. Much to her surprise, when the person revealed himself, the first thing she saw was his topless body and a phone in his hand.

Her jaw dropped. "Jack!?"

"Who else do you think it might be, sweetheart?" Jackson smirked deviously, wiggling his brows as he shook his phone to the side. His eyelids drooped as he scanned her from head to toe. "I don’t know if I should get angry, but for sure, my buddy down there is in a rage."
