Chapter 128: Certainly not in this lifetime

Meanwhile...

"What should I do?" Fil paced back and forth, biting the tip of her thumb. "Should I tell him Kenzo had a change of plan? Or should I just go with it?"

Fil clasped her hair in distress. She was just messing with Marcus, assuming he wouldn’t agree to her suggestion. Who would have thought the man would agree?

"Who is in their right mind who would agree to meet the man they beat up so casually?" she murmured, stopping in her tracks as her expression changed. "But then again, this is Marcus."

Fil clasped her hair with both her hands again, taking this as another lesson learned. As she lamented over her mistake, her phone suddenly rang. Fil didn’t think twice, jumping on the bed and answering the call without a second hesitation.

"Hello!"

"That’s not the mood I was expecting," Jackson, the person on the other end of the line, pointed out immediately. "Let me guess, you missed me?"

"Not you, but I’m jealous. You guys seemed to be having fun."

Jackson chuckled while she furrowed her brows upon hearing her phone produce another tone. Looking at it, she furrowed her brows and accepted the video call. The second the line connected, she smiled subtly as soon as she saw Jackson’s delightful appearance.

"You look upset," he pointed out again even though she was smiling.

"I’m not upset."

"Really?" Jackson suddenly moved his phone, revealing the people at the same table as his. "Mom, does she look upset?"

Irene, Fil’s mother, moved her face closer to the phone. "Oh, dear. Are you sad you couldn’t come?"

"Mom!" Fil gasped, but then, her father showed up on the screen.

"Filly, are you crying?"

"Are you guys drunk?!" Fil gasped louder, and then, Jackson’s face was back on the screen.

"We’re having a late dinner snack and some wine," he said. "In case you don’t know that."

Jackson cupped his cheek, eyes on her. "I asked your parents for your hands, feet, body, mind, and soul. I’m handing them the dowry tomorrow."

"..."

Was he drunk?

"Hi, sis!" Suddenly, Elijah peeked at the screen, waving at her. "How is it being a corporate slave?"

Fil opened and closed her mouth, mind blown at the energy from the other end of the call. She thought that once Jackson called, she would be able to complain to him and he would comfort her. But no. Even so, she helplessly smiled.

"Have fun, you guys," she almost wept while feeling a little noble at the moment. "Don’t worry about me. Me and my bad decisions can make it through the weekend."

"Your bad decisions will surely keep you busy," Elijah joked. "Say, Big Bro, do you really know the developer of..."

Fil blinked and blinked as Elijah and Jackson started talking, the phone facing up.

"I’m still here? Hello?" she muttered, but to no avail. "Goodness."

Fil shook her head, thinking she had no power but to listen to Jackson and Elijah’s conversation. Once in a while, her parents would chime in and Jackson would gladly humor them. They sounded like they were truly having fun.

"Gosh..." she whispered again, smiling subtly the more she listened to them. "I guess they’re really having fun."

Fil slowly reached for her charger and lay down, keeping the phone close to her to listen to more of their conversation. Hearing Elijah’s tone of voice, she could tell he was genuinely amazed and excited. And Jackson was patiently engaging him with the same level of interest. Meanwhile, she could also hear her parents talking, even getting a grasp of her father telling her mother to dance together.

’I’m really grateful to him,’she thought, appreciating every second of Jackson’s existence. ’Though I kinda miss him. This bed feels a little big, somehow.’

Fil kept quiet as she listened to the noises from the phone like a radio. Her smile remained and the reason for her stress suddenly sounded pathetic. Before she knew it, she found calm just listening to her family’s voices and eventually fell asleep.

"How does it feel to be forgiven after breaking their heart as many times as you want?" A man’s quiet voice echoed in her ears. It sounded like he was begging her with all the little strength he got. "Was it nice to have someone who will forgive you even after breaking them countless times?"

Fil furrowed her brows, looking back at the person talking to her. His face was blurry, but the pain in his voice was clear. She watched the figure approach, looking up at him, but couldn’t make up his facial features. No matter how she tried, he was just too blurry.

"Very well," he whispered, making her look back at him again. "I’ll stop wondering why I keep letting you back into my life."

The corner of her mouth curved down a little, feeling a little blue at the tone of his voice. He sounded so hurt and helpless, making her feel this inexplicable pain in her heart. Before she knew it, a tear suddenly rolled down her cheek.

She felt his cold hand touch her cheek, wiping her tears with his thumb.

"Instead, I’ll just keep wondering if there will be a life where you will be mine?" he asked quietly, brushing her cheek with his thumb. "How many centuries do you think would it take?"

Fil felt sorry for the man despite slowly being aware she was in a dream. Much to her surprise, she suddenly heard her own voice, saying something so cold and harsh;

"I don’t know, but certainly not in this lifetime."

Fil snapped her eyes open, gasping for air. She sat up as she tried to catch her breath, clasping her chest, and realizing her entire body was damp with cold sweat.

"What is that?" Fil touched her head as it suddenly throbbed. "That’s a weird dream."

She massaged her temple, trying to recall the details of her dream. However, the more she did, the more blurry the dream became. Even so, she knew she had a very weird dream.

"That’s weird," she murmured, raising her brows as she noticed her phone beside her. Her lips curled up, seeing Jackson’s name on the screen. She answered the call, and before she knew it, she forgot about the dream completely.
