The Devil's Good Girl
Chapter 127: Get along

Chapter 127: Get along

Kenzo sat in the coffee shop near his brother’s place, snapping his eyes up when someone suddenly sat down across from him. A snicker immediately escaped him the moment their eyes met.

"The audacity to really come, huh?" Kenzo remarked. "Does my silence inflate your ego?"

Marcus offered the man a short smile, assessing his condition. "You recovered," he pointed out, nodding in satisfaction. "I’m more surprised you agreed to meet me despite what happened to you the last time."

"Say what you want to say." Kenzo didn’t beat around the bush. "I don’t have the entire night to chat with you."

"And it’s interesting that you agreed to meet me because of a particular reason." Marcus rested his arms against the table. "Kenzo, do you see Fil as someone more than a friend?"

Kenzo smirked. "That’s surprising. Since when were you interested in Fil’s affairs?"

"I’m just... amazed." Marcus shrugged. "At how easy it is to make you come out just because I mentioned her name."

"Hah." Kenzo chuckled, leaning back comfortably. "Did Vincent send you here to interrogate the people around her?"

"I’m not under Vincent’s paycheck —"

"But you were his lackey," Kenzo spat out, watching how the cunning smirk on Marcus’s face disappeared. "What? Do you think you weren’t his lackey? Maybe for you, but everyone who knows you thinks the same way for sure."

Marcus’s laughter was low, sending a wave of chill to those who would hear it. "Do you think I can’t hurt you just because we’re in public?"

"Do you think I’d meet you without putting up extra precautions?" Kenzo mocked. "I’m not stupid. Whatever you and Vincent are concocting, you better stop and leave Fil alone. Let her be."

"Let her be?" Marcus repeated. "Why would we have to let her be? So you can have her?"

"There’s no point in talking to a wall, is there?" Kenzo shook his head mildly, eyes brimming with ridicule. "Your group is full of this crap. Your world is full of these same crappy excuses and point blaming. You guys are pathetic and I feel sorry that Fil had to put up with all of you."

Kenzo grabbed his crutches, assisting himself to stand up. Looking down at Marcus, he couldn’t help but hiss in disgust.

"I came here not just because of that silly threat you spew, but because I want to tell you not to dare contact me again," Kenzo warned. "I let that time slide for a reason, but that’s it. There won’t be no next time."

With that being said, Kenzo assisted himself away from the table. However, just as he walked past their table, his eyes went wide as he suddenly fell on his stomach. Before he knew it, his body landed with a thud.

"Oh?" Marcus looked back at him apathetically. "Was my leg sticking out? Silly me. Sorry."

Kenzo hissed, looking back at that shameless man.

"Come, let me help you." Marcus slowly stood from his chair, taking a few steps, and then squatted down. His eyes brimmed with coldness and lack of sympathy. "Kenzo, if I apologize to you, will you forget what happened?"

"Are you insane?" Kenzo ridiculed. "You think a simple apology will erase it?"

"You hate easy money, so I think an apology is worth that much." Marcus shrugged. "You know I can hurt you even if you put up extra measures to keep yourself safe. But I’m not going to hurt you even if you annoy me."

Kenzo was rendered speechless and could only scoff in disbelief. "Seriously. Your family regards you as their golden boy, but you’re nothing but trash sprayed with expensive perfume."

"Ouch." Marcus frowned playfully. "Fine. I’m a piece of garbage. Are we quits now? Or do you want to throw a punch or two?"

"What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Keep your mouth shut," Marcus stressed as he lowered his head. "If you plan to keep quiet about that incident, then keep it that way. If you do, I promise you I’ll be on your side."

"Haha." Kenzo couldn’t help but laugh at the level of ridiculousness he was hearing. However, this genuinely surprised him. Marcus knew Kenzo would keep his mouth shut. Yet, he still came to see him to make sure Kenzo wouldn’t run his mouth.

"Why?" Kenzo blurted out under his breath. "Why do you suddenly care if I talk or not?"

Marcus shrugged. "For our peace."

"Peace? Whose peace? Mine? Or yours?"

"You like Fil," Marcus broached, making Kenzo frown deeply. "See? You can’t even hide it."

"You and your circle of friends don’t understand the real concept of friendship," Kenzo stressed. "But even so, Fil and I are good friends. Don’t put malice on it."

"If what you two have is nothing but mere friendship, then fine." Marcus nodded. "So, are we okay now?"

Kenzo didn’t answer, but Marcus smiled brightly.

"We should be, because I think we will be good friends in the future." Marcus blinked playfully. "I hope we put that part behind us and start anew. I’m serious. Let’s be friends, hmm?"

After saying his piece, Marcus reached for Kenzo’s crunches and gave it to him.

"Let’s get along well, Kenzo," Marcus expressed, nodding at the man with a smile. "And our lives will be much simpler."

With that being said, Marcus planted his hands on his thighs and pushed himself up. He walked away, stopping after several steps. He glanced over his shoulder, smirking.

’I guess everyone just wants her,’thought Marcus. ’I guess I should let him linger around for now.’

Meanwhile, Kenzo slowly sat up on the floor, scoffing in dismay.

"Get along well?" Kenzo remarked, shaking his head, and noticing the very few people looking in his direction. "Tch."

Kenzo clicked his tongue in irritation, reaching for the chair to assist himself to stand up again. At this point, some of the staff went to him to help him. When Kenzo was back on his feet, he turned his head at the entrance where Marcus left.

’Why did he suddenly drag Fil in this?’he wondered as he found this strange, and maybe, a detail that could be a little useful in the future. ’Just a few days ago, he doesn’t care if I press charges or not. But now... he wants to keep it under the rug. Something must have happened. He won’t care so suddenly if not.’

Kenzo drew another deep breath, his eyes burning at the thought of Marcus. In his mind, whatever Marcus’s reason for wanting to keep Kenzo quiet meant Kenzo might have had the upper hand.

’How do I play that card now?’
