Chapter 125: the vacation

Meanwhile...

Elijah and Jackson idled by the pool, reclining on the lounge chairs with Elijah holding a light beer Jackson snuck for him.

"Do you think my sister is crying and wishing she came with us?" Elijah turned to Jackson curiously. "If she is, I feel bad."

"It’s your idea to send her updates," Jackson smirked. "Don’t worry about your sister. She’ll be fine — at least, I don’t think she’s the type to cry herself to sleep just because she couldn’t go on a vacation."

"You don’t know my sister. She can be like that." Elijah puffed his cheeks. "When we’re young, she always cries whenever people leave without her. I remember how she threw a big tantrum because mom and dad had to take me to the clinic while she had to stay behind."

Jackson chuckled, lifting the bottle of beer to his mouth. "That’s not cute."

"My sister is never cute," Elijah commented, observing Jackson. "Do you like my sister?"

"Don’t ask people questions whenever they’re drinking anything," Jackson winced a little as he gulped the beer in one go. "Unless you want them to spit it on you."

Elijah smacked his lips, getting a lot more comfortable with this man now. After all, Jackson kept in touch with them even after they left that weekend. He would even drop by just to give his mother some fruits or teas or anything he got for them after his trip abroad.

"To be honest, this vacation is a little too much," Elijah confessed quietly. "Mom and Dad didn’t want to accept it, thinking you’ve already done too much for them."

"Yet, they agreed."

"That’s because you told me you already booked the entire resort." Elijah sighed. "Obviously, you didn’t."

"Did that disappoint you?"

"Not really." A short smile appeared on Elijah’s charming face. "I think that’s nice of you and that you’re in love with my sister more than I expected."

Jackson grinned until his eyes were partially squinting. "Is that bad?"

"No. I think you should continue to pursue her, not us."

"And why is that?"

"My sister has been with a man for a long time. I know she wouldn’t just break off her engagement for no reason. Even if she denies it, I know there are more reasons than falling out of love." the young man explained. "I’m saying this because I’m already sold. Instead of us, you should focus more on how to get her attention."

Jackson stared at Elijah with amusement. This young man was just like Fil, but a more decisive and honest version.

"I’m not doing this because I like your sister," Jackson clarified. "I’m doing this just because I have a lot of money. Your sister isn’t interested in using my money, so I don’t know where to spend it. Also, I have a long list to want to cross out on my to-do list."

"It must be nice to have plenty of money."

"Is it?"

Elijah raised his brows curiously. "You don’t think it’s nice to have plenty of money? Only privileged people can say that."

"Having money is all fine and nice until you realize it cannot buy you a life," Jackson returned, shrugging as he caught the deeper curiosity in Elijah’s eyes. "Money is not everything — though it is a huge factor in everyone’s daily lives. It only matters until you realize there were things you cannot buy."

"You sound like an old man."

"Because I am."

Elijah sighed heavily. "So? Are you saying you’re not going to do anything else to make my sister fall for your charms?"

"Humor me more." Jackson slowly flung his legs out of the lounge chair, facing Elijah. "What do you think your sister doesn’t like about me?"

"Nothing? I mean, if the question is what does she likes about you, then the answer should be everything."

Jackson tilted his head to the side, eyes brimming with curiosity.

"Fine." Elijah rolled his eyes while raising his brows briefly. "She likes handsome men. When she was in elementary, I remember her keeping posters of boy bands in her room. She practically worshipped them."

"That’s all?"

"She likes reading romance, always saying fiction men are better until that jerk came to her world," Elijah continued. "She likes tall men too, smart, generous, and kind. Some kind of down-to-earth scheme."

"And you think I fit in all that category?"

"Yes."

"Right?" Jackson agreed, humming a long tune. "Then why doesn’t she like me?"

"She told you that?"

"No. But in her past life, she never liked me."

Elijah frowned a bit at the sarcasm in Jackson’s tone but somehow had gotten used to it. Jackson wasn’t all that goody two shoes, which was one of the characteristics Elijah liked about him. Jackson never tried acting like someone he wasn’t just because he wanted to leave an impression. Which, perhaps, was one of his good characteristics.

"Give her some time," said Elijah, shoving his hands inside his pocket. "Let’s take a picture. We need to keep her updated, even though she hasn’t read any of my messages."

He stretched his arm, taking a selfie with Jackson who automatically smiled. He only took one shot, looking at it closely. He glanced at Jackson, shaking his head in disbelief.

’How come he looks good in every angle?’ wondered Elijah before he spoke his mind. "I think my sister is blind if she doesn’t like you."

Jackson smiled. "Thank you for the compliment, but you might want to retake that one."

"Huh? Why?"

"Your sister will kill me if she sees that beer in your hand."

Elijah automatically looked down at the photo, noticing the bottleneck that was caught in the camera. "You have a good eye," he praised, casting Jackson a look of surprise. "But this beer is just a prop. I’m holding it because you asked me to."

"Your sister thinks I’m a devil whispering in people’s ears." Jackson shrugged. "On a second note, let’s make her angry."

"Are you sure?"

"She wasn’t checking her phone. Might as well give her a reason to."

"Well..." Elijah pondered about it before he grinned. "Fine."

With that being said, Elijah sent the photo without a second hesitation. Getting scolded by his sister didn’t sound so bad. After all, if there was anyone who would take the heat here, that would be Jackson.

"Anyway, have you seen my mom and dad?" Elijah asked after sending Fil an update. "I haven’t seen them in a while."

"They’re probably in their room, enjoying a jacuzzi and a bottle of wine." Jackson leisurely leaned back again, sliding his eyes to the corner. "Let them enjoy their time together. Who knows? You might be welcoming a little brother or little sister in nine months."

Elijah gasped in horror while Jackson snickered.

"I can’t unhear that," Elijah remarked in horror. "Oh no, you think they... ew."
