Chapter 106: You think I’m lying?

Meanwhile...

Anton sat in the lobby of the Hale Construction Company, waiting for a certain person to come into sight. He had been informed that Vincent was currently in a meeting upon his arrival, hence the need to wait for the go signal.

"Why do I have to wait here?" he grumbled, tapping his fingertips against the armrest aggressively. "Do I make them wait like this when they come to see me?"

But then again, his friends rarely visited his studio. Yet, he still instructed his staff to accommodate them properly if they ever did.

’Friendship...’he whispered internally, letting out a deep exhale. ’Hah. Guess this is what I get for turning my back on him.’

Anton snapped his eyes up when he noticed a small group coming out of the elevator not far away. He rose from his seat, spotting Vincent and some of his staff following him.

"Vin!" Anton called, drawing attention from not just Vincent, but also from people in the lobby.

The moment Vincent saw Anton, he furrowed his brows. He glanced at his assistant on the left, instructing him to go ahead first. The assistant and other employees nodded without a word, leaving their boss to have a word with his friend.

"Anton?" Vincent called, marching toward him, only to notice the tense mood the latter was carrying. He stopped, assessing Anton to see if a confrontation was coming. But when he noticed that Anton didn’t seem ready for a fight, he waited.

"Visiting me during work hours, that’s new," Vincent remarked the moment Anton stopped three steps from him. "Did I do something for you to come here in such a terrible mood?"

"Do you know what your sister did?"

"Valerie?" Vincent knitted his brows, warranting a mocking laugh from Anton. "Why are you laughing?"

"Visiting you here during work hours is new, but your sister running rampant isn’t," Anton hissed. "Vincent, I’ve told you many times to control your sister and that temper of hers."

"What did she do this time?"

"She almost ruined my music video!" Anton exclaimed, drawing more attention. "That’s what she did."

Vincent frowned deeply, glancing at the onlookers. "Come with me."

"I don’t have time to go wherever you want me to," Anton barked, taking a step to lessen their distance. "I’m angry that because of her, there’s a high chance my music video will get delayed. But that’s just my problem. You’ve got a bigger one."

This time, Vincent squinted his eyes while Anton smirked deviously.

"You want to know what your sister did? Ask your ex," Anton scoffed, taking a step back. "Your sister just made sure you and Fil will not get back together."

Anton scoffed again, observing Vincent’s confusion. "I’ve told you before, and I’ll tell you again now. Discipline your sister because if she pulls this again and hurts Fil again, there are many places she can step into the entertainment industry, but never the music industry."

With that, Anton turned around to leave. Giving Vincent a warning seemed pathetic, but he was serious.

"Anton," Vincent called, quickly following him. He stopped when Anton faced him. "Do you like Fil?"

"What?" Anton scoffed. "Is that all you heard from everything I said?"

"Valerie would never hurt Fil, but you, acting overly protective over my fiancée, are suspicious," Vincent’s face darkened. "Anton, did you think just because we’re on a cool-off, you can step in between us?"

A ridiculing laugh escaped Anton as he looked at Vincent in disbelief. "I don’t like her, but I don’t mind if I do. You’re cheating on her, anyway."

"What did you say?" Vincent aggressively grabbed Anton by the collar. "Say that again, Anton. You might be forgetting whose territory you’re standing in right now."

"Hah. Pathetic," Anton snickered. "I don’t like her, but I realized she’s probably the only real friend I have."

He paused, clasping Vincent’s wrist tightly. "You want to fight? Let’s do it. I don’t mind. In fact, I’m in the mood. But do you really want to waste your time right now? Considering Fil is resting in the clinic, you should call your sister. Set her straight or the path she’s going to have in the future will be narrow. And Marianne? A mere weather girl can’t do anything about it."

With that, Anton freed himself from Vincent’s grip. He glared at him one last time before walking away. Vincent, on the other hand, fixed his tie and looked around.

"Valerie." He clicked his tongue, storming out in a different direction. "What the hell did you do this time?"

[ARKWRIGHT CORPORATION: DIRECTOR’s OFFICE]

"Sir, Miss Hale is waiting in your office."

Marcus furrowed his brows at his staff upon hearing the heads-up from her. "Valerie is here?"

"Yes. She’s been here for over an hour now."

"I see," Marcus nodded in understanding.

This wasn’t new. Valerie would sometimes drop by his office whenever she was in the area. He didn’t mind, though. It was like babysitting a kid, and to be honest, Marcus needed more distractions aside from the mountain of paperwork he buried himself in.

Marcus smiled at his staff and said, "Inform Vincent his little sister is here."

"Yes, sir."

Marcus went to his office leisurely, pausing for a second when he stepped in. "I see someone’s in a bad mood," he humored, earning a frown from Valerie.

"I hate her!" she grumbled, causing his brow to raise.

"Her?" Marcus repeated as he approached his desk. "There’s only one person you always refer to like that. And what is it this time about Fil?"

Marcus casually sat down behind the desk, adding, "When Fil and Vincent are together, you’re unhappy. But now that they’ve broken up, you’re even more unhappy?"

"I met her today," Valerie harrumphed, crossing her arms and huffing. "That witch. Just because she dressed up, she thinks she’s already somebody."

"Valerie, I get that you don’t like Fil. But I think it’s unfair to —"

"Are you on my side or hers?" Valerie hissed. "Do you even know what that two-faced witch did?"

Marcus furrowed his brows, waiting for Valerie’s explanation. "What did she do?"

"That witch is crazy! She kept saying a bunch of nonsense and even slapped herself!" she exclaimed hysterically, both in disbelief and miffed. "She lost it! Does she think I’d feel sorry because..."

"You hurt her?"

"What?" Valerie gasped and looked back at him, only to see his expression darken. "No! I didn’t — are you listening, brother Marcus? She slapped herself and even berated me!"

Valerie defended herself, swearing she was telling the truth. But alas...

"You don’t believe me?" she breathed out. "You think I’m lying?"

"I’m not lying!" Valerie exclaimed in frustration. "Brother Marcus, do you really think I am making up a story? That bitch is a two-faced and --"

Suddenly, a knock came on the door, interrupting them. Valerie turned her head on instinct, only to see Marcus’s assistant. However, before the assistant could say anything, Vincent pushed him aside.

"Brother," Valerie called, rushing to Vincent, since she knew her brother would listen to her. But alas, the second she was within Vincent’s reach, a resounding slap landed on her face.
