The Devil's Good Girl
Chapter 105: Low

Chapter 105: Low

Jackson was able to fix everything with a "work, sorry about that. Shall we start the meeting?"

Everyone in the Solana Project proceeded with the meeting in the clinic, with Fil leading the client meeting. It was odd and seemed unprofessional, but they proceeded with it anyway. Fil, despite her worries, did her job exceptionally and professionally. No one raised a question about her cheek, nor did they question Elise, who offered her an ice pack amid the discussion.

"I see. Now that is reassuring," Jackson nodded, sitting idly on the other bed next to Fil’s. "So, there’s nothing I should worry about?"

"We value this project just as much as you, Mister Sisson," Fil offered a smile as she put down her ice pack. "So, you do not have to worry. The groundbreaking will be held on schedule, and the construction—"

"And the remaining residents?" Jackson tilted his head to the side.

"Half of them had already left, while we’ve already found a place for the rest." This time, Olivia jumped into the conversation. "Rest assured. Once the construction starts, all of them have already moved out."

"Alright, then!" Jackson stood up, smiling. "I guess that concludes the meeting."

Everyone smiled back at him, secretly sighing in relief. They also stood, ready to walk him out of the building out of politeness. However, just as they reached the door, they stopped.

"Mister Sisson," Fil called, making everyone look back at her curiously. "Can I... can I have a word with you?"

Jackson arched a brow while the rest furrowed their brows.

"Sure, Miss Lovin," he smiled, casting Olivia and the rest a look. "You don’t have to walk me out."

Olivia offered a meek smile, assuming Fil wanted to apologize to Jackson. Unbeknownst to her, Fil had to apologize for something else, and not because of a meeting in a clinic. With that being said, Olivia beckoned the team to return to the office.

"Have a nice day, Mister Sisson," Olivia remarked before leaving Jackson and Fil alone.

As the door closed, Jackson’s sarcasm instantly emerged. "Seeing that you want to talk now instead of later seems this is important."

"I’m sorry," Fil sighed, studying the unfazed look on his face. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. When she reopened her eyes, they twinkled as she patted the space beside her.

Jackson squinted his eyes, crossing his arms. "Filomena, I told you before. Whenever you’re acting cute, it’s suspicious. But that look right there is a crime. I know what you’re trying to do."

"You do?" Fil fluttered her eyelashes coquettishly, touching her slightly swollen cheek. "But I’m hurt."

"..." Jackson opened his mouth, but his voice didn’t come out. He was flabbergasted, knowing she was using her charm to make peace with him.

"What a manipulative lady you have become, sweetheart," he commented, yet he was walking back to join her on the bed. "I feel sorry for myself."

Fil pressed her lips to stop herself from smiling.

"Suppressing your giggles is worse than you smiling shamelessly," he pointed out, looking at her straight in the eye. "You are one vile woman. This is low, sweetheart. You don’t attack a poor man like this."

"I’m not attacking anyone," she quipped, bouncing closer to him. Fil reached for his hand, sporting a puppy look, as she repeated, "I’m sorry."

Now that was low.

Jackson’s frown deepened. Not because he knew she was simply trying to save herself. It was the fact he knew! He knew she was applying the manipulation techniques she learned from him, and he was letting her.

How could he not?

She was so... adorable.

"This is why I’m not surprised that Marcus is losing his mind. Men are simpletons," he smacked his lips in surrender, pressing his thumb on her chin as he guided her face a little to the side. "Let me see it again."

"I put on the ointment, and I think the ice pack helped a lot," she smiled, watching him meet her eyes. "Are you still angry?"

"I want to have sex more than unleash my anger."

Fil giggled. "Dinner’s on me later."

"By dinner, you mean you’d lay on the table?" he humored before his smile faded. "Don’t slap yourself again."

"Huh?"

"That thumb mark is enough for even a fifth-grader to deduce the culprit is the victim here," he casually revealed, touching the thumb mark on the lower side of her cheek. If someone else slapped her, the angle of the thumb mark should’ve been on the upper part. "Don’t ask me how I knew because you know why."

He always paid attention. That was the answer. And now, she felt even more guilty.

"Don’t do this again," he remarked, caressing the cut on the side of her lips. "Hurting yourself just to hurt others isn’t the best way to do it. It worries me."

"I’m sorry."

"I’m teaching you self-defense so you can defend yourself, sweetheart. It’s no use if you can’t use it against yourself."

"I know, and I’m sorry. I mean it," Fil pursed her lips, squeezing his hand. "Also, thank you. I lost my mind there without regard for other things. So, thank you for putting me back on track."

Jackson studied her eyes, nodding in satisfaction when he was sure she meant every word. He then picked up the ice pack on her side, pressing it on her cheek. He said nothing, but Fil felt reassured there was no longer tension between them.

"Does your little boo-boo still hurt?" he asked, his voice was low but full of care.

She smiled subtly. "Not anymore. I feel much better now."

"Good."

"By the way, do you mind if I ask who is that person you called before the meeting?" she blurted out, making him snap his eyes back to her. "I know you’re not serious about killing someone, but I’m a little curious."

"The person I dislike."

"You dislike everyone."

"The one who made it on the top 5 list," he said. "Kim."

"Ki — Kim Rock?" she gasped. "Why did you —?"

"We dislike each other, but also, we equally dislike the kid. I don’t want to cut off such a young person’s life, and so Kim is the answer."

Fil squinted her eyes, confused. When Jackson wiggled his brows, she somewhat got a grasp of what he was telling her.

"Oh," she blurted out again. "You’re going to... stop her dreams?"

"You can’t stop a person’s dream. All you can do is stop it from happening. Sweetheart, if I want to mess up with your EX and his friends, I could easily do that," Jackson smiled knowingly. "But why am I not doing that? Because it’s interesting and fun. But it’s no longer fun if you get hurt."

"I assaulted myself."

"And someone has to take the fall," he shrugged, leaning his face closer. "Enough with that. How much longer do you think we’d be alone in here?"

Fil blinked, looking at him innocently. Jackson, on the other hand, raised his brows.

"Jack," she whispered, seeing that he was being serious. "You’re an animal. This is a clinic."

He grinned, squeezing her thigh. "But why do you look excited?"

"Ah, goodness. I should’ve let you get angry."

"Haha!" Jackson laughed out loud, moving his face closer until the tip of his nose was touching hers. "Kidding. As much as I want to, I’ll have to wait until dinner."
