Chapter 107: Didn’t do this!

Chapter 107: Didn’t do this!

A resounding slap echoed in Valerie’s ears as her face was tossed aside. Her eyes instantly went wide, at first shocked. Her cheek only throbbed a second later, realizing what had just happened.

Valerie touched her cheek, slowly facing her brother, who had always pampered her. "Brother...?"

"Valerie, what did you do?" Vincent’s voice shook in anger. "Was it true? Hmm? Did you hurt Fil?"

"No!" Valerie exclaimed in defense. "I never even touched her!"

Her breath hitched when Vincent suddenly raised his phone to her. Valerie blinked a couple of times, eyes shaking as she gazed at the phone.

"You didn’t?" Vincent repeated. "If you didn’t, then care to explain this?"

For a moment, Valerie held her breath, studying the close-up photo of a woman’s cheek and then the cut on her lips. Fil’s entire face might not be included in the photo, but by the shape of her face and lips, there was no doubt it was her.

Not that Valerie didn’t know these injuries.

When Fil walked out on her, her cheek was red and started swelling. Her lips had already bled too. But alas...

"I didn’t do this!" Valerie defended herself even more aggressively. "That cunning bitch is framing me! She did that to herself!"

Valerie was almost screaming her lungs out while trying her best to convince her brother. When Vincent’s expression only showed dismay, she looked back at Marcus. Marcus already had his swivel chair facing the other direction, his expression cold.

"You guys..."

Vincent had never laid a finger on her. The worst he did to Valerie was scold her or raise a voice at her. However, every time that happened, Marcus would always rescue her. Marcus was just like a brother to her as well.

So why... were these two don’t believe her?

"Brother Marcus..." she whispered, realizing Marcus had no intention of stepping in to protect her. Slowly, she looked back at Vincent, hissing. "Brother, I didn’t do it! I swear! Why don’t you believe me?"

Vincent shook his head, disappointed that she was still denying it. "Valerie, I told you many times. If you don’t like Fil and can’t like her as a person, then at least, think of me."

"Why would I have to think of you for her?!" she harrumphed, getting more irritated with Fil. "She was giving you a hard time! All I wanted was to talk, but that cunning bitch started hitting herself! Do you think I can and will hurt her? She’s framing me to put a wedge between us!"

Valerie raised her brows, feeling her heart sink at the contemptuous look plastered on Vincent. "You don’t believe me?"

"Fil put up with your nonsense all this time, Valerie." Vincent ground his teeth, balling his hands into tight fists. "Why are you still lying?"

Vincent suddenly grabbed her shoulders, shaking his stupid little sister. "Just what did I do to you for you to do this to me?"

"Brother, I didn’t!" she shook her head profusely. "I’m telling you the truth! Please, why don’t you believe me?"

"Fuck!" Vincent hisses, hanging his head down. "This is pointless."

"Ouch..." Valerie winced as her brother’s grip on her shoulder tightened. "Brother, you’re hurting me... ouch!"

"Fuck!" he pushed her away, making her fall on the floor. "Damn you!"

Valerie winced once more when her buttocks hit the floor. She looked up at him desperately. Her breath hitched when Vincent looked down at her, her body quivering at the cold and violent aura emanating from him.

"Brother..." she whimpered, torn between frustration and pain from her brother’s violence. Even so, she still wanted to try one last time. Maybe, if she did, he would believe her. "I swear, I didn’t hurt —"

"That car..." Vincent hissed, stopping her mid-sentence. "... forget about it."

"What?!"

"And your cards — forget about them."

"Brother!"

"Valerie Hale!" he raised his voice, making her flinch. "You’re lucky you’re my sister because I can do worse if you aren’t."

A thin layer of tears coated her eyes. Getting her cards frozen and not receiving the car she kept gloating about was nothing compared to the helplessness she felt right now. Not only did her brother hurt her for the first time, Marcus wasn’t helping. They won’t even believe a word she said.

"There’s... nothing I’d say that you’d make you listen to me, huh?" she murmured, tears falling down her cheek.

"Save your tears later for Mom and Dad, but expect them not to help," Vincent warned, pointing a finger at her. "Valerie, you... are selfish! I won’t forgive you if Fil won’t forgive me."

Valerie clenched her teeth, clasping her hands on the floor. "What’s so bad about that?! You and that cunning bitch broke up and you’re already seeing someone else! She dumped you! It’s her loss —"

"Valerie Hale!" Vincent’s voice thundered, putting a stop to her tantrums. "I swear to god if Fil and I didn’t get back together, forget about everything, and go back to school. Because once you finish school, you’re on your own. If you don’t want to, then you better start learning how to do house chores for your husband."

"You can’t do that to me!"

"Oh, test me, Valerie Hale." Vincent scorned. "Test me. I’ve been too kind and lenient to you, but you don’t know what I can do. You’re not young anymore, Valerie. Some people at your age already make money for themselves."

Vincent huffed and tugged his suit, snapping his sharp eyes at Marcus. "I’m sorry about this."

"My office is soundproof, so it’s fine." Marcus waved dismissively, shifting his equally sharp eyes at Vincent. "Take her away from here. I’m afraid she’d throw a bigger tantrum in here. I don’t want to get accused of throwing her out."

"I know." Vincent huffed once more, glancing down at her. He only shook his head before turning on his heel and storming out of Marcus’s office.

Meanwhile,Valerie stayed at the same spot with her gaze on the door. She wiped her tears with the bottom of her palm. Before she could recover, Marcus spoke.

"You better get up there, Valerie." His voice carried a tone of nonchalance, refocusing his attention on the papers on the desk. "Your brother is angry. I’m sure the security he called will drag you out of here like a criminal. Don’t humiliate yourself further."

Valerie hissed, pushing herself up. When she was back on her feet, she glared at Marcus.

"Hah! I can’t believe you didn’t even stop him!" she scoffed, shaking her head and turning to leave. However, just as she reached the door, Marcus spoke once more.

"Valerie," he called, staring at her back. "I’d appreciate it if you stopped coming by my office. It’s not a public place for anyone to come in."
