Chapter 101: Money can’t fix stupidity

"Get out of here. I need to talk to her. It’s a serious matter and not just some gossip you seem to enjoy."

Elise looked at Valerie with genuine wonder, stunned for a second. Did this young lady say what they heard her say? Elise scoffed, casting Fil a look and then back to the young lady.

"Haha!" Elise laughed, scratching her temple, confused about how to act. "Fil, do you know her?"

Fil kept her eyes on the arrogant look on Valerie’s face. "Vincent’s little sister."

"Ah. That explains it." Elise chuckled weakly again, pushing herself to stand up. "Hey, little missy. How old are you?"

"Not as old as the two of you, obviously." Valerie shrugged. "Leave. I need to talk to her."

"Did you hit your head as a kid?" Elise returned, erecting her index as she made circles in front of her ear. "I want to know, just in case before I become a meanie to someone I shouldn’t be."

"What are you being so worked up for?" Valerie frowned. "Was it because I called you an old lady? That’s normal. People grow old, though there’s an option to be old and pretty."

Elise let out a scoff while Fil stayed back, not worried about Elise. If anything, she was worried Elise would get suspended if she sent this young lady crying.

"And you’ll never be one of those." Elise smiled.

"Huh? Do you know who I am? I’ve been taking care of myself —"

"You can talk about all the skincare you use and treatments you undergo at your age, but that’s not what I meant," Elise smirked, taking a step toward Valerie. "You might not even grow old. Young lady, do you know the saying don’t mess with engineers? We know a lot of lands and‌ have access to the construction."

Elise moved another step, leaning her face a little. "In other words, we know places where we can hide a person’s body. Who knows? Underneath this cafe, there’s a few skeletons hidden in the concrete?"

"What are you..." Valerie took a step back, laughing awkwardly. "Do you know I can sue you for threatening me?"

"I do." Elise nodded. "But then, I’m not the one who approached this table and started running that useless, filler-injected mouth of yours? Go burn your parent’s money for suing me, but it’ll be self-defense on my part."

"Self-defense??"

"This is harassment! Woah! What a shock!" Elise gasped as if that was a shocker. She then laughed, resting her hand on the table leisurely. "The difference between youngsters like you and the oldies like us is not just age. We’re not idiots."

Fil pressed her lips, raising her brows briefly.

"Want to talk to my friend? Then, ask her nicely. If she doesn’t want to, then shut up and cry in the corner. But if she agrees, you will talk in my presence in case someone needs some straightening." Elise clicked her tongue, hissing. "What an arrogant young lady. If you’re my younger sister, I’ll make your mouth bleed until you know how to talk to people."

"How barbaric. Classless." Valerie scoffed, glaring at Fil for a moment. She then shifted her glare to Elise, looking at her from head to toe. From the outside, Elise looked cute — at most. No one would expect her to be so vicious, but then again, what would Valerie expect from Fil’s friends?

However, Valerie didn’t open her mouth anymore, just to be safe. Who knows? Elise might actually make her mouth bleed.

"Goodness." Elise glared back at the young lady, her eyes going up and down. "Haven’t you learned good manners and right conduct when you’re little? What’s the use of having mommy and daddy’s money if all you do is visit all the clinics in the country to make yourself pretty?"

Fil chuckled, planting her hand on the table. "Okay. That’s enough, Elise. I think she already understood you’re not as an easy target as I am." She stood, fluttering her eyelashes to Valerie. "You want to talk? Then, let’s talk. Follow me."

"Fil," Elise called worriedly when Fil took a step.

Fil looked back at her and smiled reassuringly. "Don’t worry about me. Valerie might have a unique way of speaking her mind, but she’s pretty harmless."

"See? Harmless." Valerie rolled her eyes and smirked triumphantly at Elise, making the latter grind her teeth.

"That little bitch..." Elise grumbled, holding herself back from grabbing that little lady’s hair. But in the end, Elise had to stay back while watching Fil and Valerie head to the restroom.

"So, what is it?" Fil caressed the sink counter of the cafe’s restroom, turning on her heel to face Valerie. "What important business do you have with me that you’d humiliate my colleague and friend like that?"

"Humiliate?" Valerie crossed her arms. "Are you deaf? She threatened me."

"After you approached us condescendingly."

"Hah!" Valerie scoffed, taking a step forward. She assessed Fil from head to toe. "Dressing up and putting on a little bit of makeup doesn’t give you the license to be a bitch."

"And being born rich doesn’t make you superior," Fil argued. "Money won’t even fix stupidity."

"What did you say?"

Fil walked back to her leisurely, stopping three steps from the young lady. "I’m saying you’re not as special as you think you are."

"How dare you!" Valerie raised her hand in anger, swinging her arm to strike her in the face. But alas, before her palm could touch Fil’s cheek, the latter grabbed a hold of her arm to stop her. Her breath hitched as her dilated eyes shook, moving her arm away from Fil’s grip but to no avail.

"See? This proves Elise’s and my point. You don’t think, you just act." Fil closed the distance between them, tightening her grip on Valerie’s arm. "The only good thing about you is your face and your family’s wealth. No more, no less."

"Are you out of your mind?!" Valerie screamed at her face. "Let me go!"

"Valerie, what was going on in your head when you came with me alone in this washroom?" Fil tilted her head to the side, glancing at the structure of the restroom. "Did you think I’d be going down on my knees, crying, begging for forgiveness? Or that I’d let you humiliate me just because you believe I’m making your brother’s life hard?"

"I said let me go!"

"Why? Because you ordered me to?"

"Help!" Valerie screamed, panicking at what Fil would do to her. "Help! She’s going to hurt me! Help! Somebody!"

Fil arched a brow, her gaze cold as ice. "This restroom is soundproof. Trust me. I’m an engineer. I can tell just by looking at it and by the lack of noise outside."

"What do you think you’re doing? Stop this and let me go!" Valerie’s voice shook through gritted teeth. "Did you lose your mind now?"

"Surprisingly, I’m pretty clear-headed." Fil rocked her head as a smirk slowly turned up on her face. "Did you try to slap me just now? Fine. Let’s do that."

Fil kept Valerie’s arm in her grip, raising the other, and slapped herself unannounced. Valerie’s breath hitched once more, wide-eyed, in disbelief at what she had witnessed just now.
