Chapter 102: Wait and see

Chapter 102: Wait and see

When Fil’s palm landed on her own cheek, the resounding echoes caressed both ladies’s ears. Valerie’s heart quivered, her expression paled, her eyes were wide.

Did Fil just slap herself?

Just before Valerie could recover from the shock, another slap landed on Fil. This time, Fil’s cheek turned more red and the side of her lips was cut. She watched Fil touch the corner of her mouth, hissing at the pain.

"That should do it," said Fil as if she wasn’t in pain, letting go of Valerie’s arm. "Two slaps. Is that enough for you? Or did you plan to beat me up?"

"Are you... insane?" Valerie held her arm, staggering back. "Why did you — did you just slap your face?"

Both of them knew it wasn’t just a normal slap. Fil slapped herself as powerful as she could and Valerie could tell by the sound of it how painful that was.

"I was helping you," Fil remarked, taking another step forward. "You wanted to slap me, so I did it for you. So basically, it was you who slapped me."

Valerie took a step back on instinct. With each step Fil took, she would step back until her knees suddenly gave in, making her fall to her bottom. Fil casually squatted down in front of her.

"What an expression," Fil mused with a smirk. "Are you scared now?"

"Hah! So, this is who you are all along, huh?" Valerie blurted out in a shaking voice. "I knew it! That too good to be true —"

"If you know that the kindness and actions I showed you for years aren’t real, then you should’ve run away as far as you can. You should’ve listened to your instincts, just as you claimed," Fil argued calmly, enjoying the fear brimming the young lady’s eyes. "Valerie, how far do you think you can push a person until this person breaks?"

"Huh?"

"Your brother and I aren’t together anymore," Fil stressed. "There’s no reason for me to put up with your nonsense."

"You!"

"Want to slap me again?" Fil spoke before Valerie could do anything, making the latter freeze. "Gosh. You’re so pathetic."

Valerie’s lips quivered, staring at those pair of unsympathetic and cold pair of amethyst eyes. Her heart was swelling with anger, but her body wouldn’t move. All she could do was tremble in equal fear and anger.

"Valerie, I could’ve slapped you instead of myself." Fil casually cupped her cheek, eyes on the young lady before her. "But that’s not fun. Do you know what’s fun?"

She raised her brows curiously, smirking. "That is watching you realize your actions, your behavior, and your attitude have consequences. People don’t like you, they just tolerate you. And they tolerate you not because of your family, but because you’re young and an idiot. People tell themselves you don’t know what you’re doing, and that you will still learn."

"However, like I said, how far do you think you can push people until they break?" Fil added quietly. "Until when would people tolerate you? I want to see you realize it’s not that far — you haven’t gotten that far yet, Valerie Hale."

Valerie balled her hands into a tight fist, glaring at the woman squatting in front of her. She saw Fil scoff at her before she stood up.

"I guess this important business you have is settled," Fil remarked, facing the sink to wash her hands. "Don’t bother thanking me later when you learned the lesson your parents and even your brother didn’t teach you."

"You will regret this," Valerie threatened while Fil leisurely turned off the faucet. "You bitch."

"No, I won’t." Fil shook her head, smiling. She touched her face carefully and added, "This slap is a one-time opportunity. I will not be very kind next time. It won’t end well for you."

Fil flung her hands in front of her, letting the water in her hands sprinkle all over Valerie. She smirked in satisfaction, walking past the young lady confidently.

As the door closed behind Valerie, she ground her teeth in irritation. "You bitch!" she screamed until her voice pitched. "I’m not going to let you get away from this, you bitch!! I hate you!!"

"Fil!" Elise sprung up from her seat the second she saw Fil approach. She rushed to her, eyes shaking as soon as she caught the cut on Fil’s lips. "That little bitch. I’m going to kill her."

Before Elise could go back to the restroom to teach Valerie a lesson, Fil held her arm.

"It’s okay, Elise," Fil smiled, causing a deep frown on Elise. "This is nothing."

"Nothing? Look at your face! And your lips!" Elise exclaimed in frustration. "I’m not letting her get away from this after bullying you — I should’ve come. That little shit —"

"Hahaha!" Fil laughed, making Elise furrow her brows. "I’m fine, Elise. I provoked her."

"It’s not your fault. That young missy shouldn’t get away from hurting someone just because she was provoked." Elise huffed. "How about me? I’m provoked now. She needs to be taught a lesson."

"I already did."

"Huh?" Elise widened her eyes. "Did you slap her too? Beat her?"

"No."

"Ugh." Elise rolled her eyes. "Talking to her is like talking to a wall, Fil. She won’t learn a lesson if you only talk to her."

Fil maintained a smile, nodding at Elise reassuringly. "Do you think I’d let her get away after insulting my friend? And for ruining our precious lunch break?" She arched a brow, knowingly. "Trust me, Elise. I’ve known her since she was a kid. Beating her is just as futile as talking to her nicely."

"What do you mean?" Elise squinted her eyes. "I’m not following Fil, though I can smell some evil plans being concocted. It scares me."

"Haha." Fil chuckled, holding Elise’s shoulders. "Just wait and see. The best is yet to come."

Elise frowned, studying Fil’s expression. After a moment, she let out a deep exhale. Despite the slight swelling on Fil’s cheek and the cut on her lips, Fil bore a confident look. Therefore, it reassured Elise that Fil had dealt with that arrogant Valerie accordingly.

"Should we eat somewhere else?" Elise suggested. "I’m so angry that I don’t want to see her again."

"I agree. Let’s go."
