The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love
Chapter 94: Where everyone was

Chapter 94: Where everyone was

Jia decided to head back to the amusement park. She couldn’t gather much clues the first time she visited the maze with Bojing. But now that she had a much clearer understanding of the case, she thought it was prudent to visit the scene again. All the answers lay within that confusing maze.

Behind her followed Mingshen, who was finally back to life after being stuck in the hospital. "See now I feel so refreshed after teaming back with my partner again~"

She simply scowled.

"You should have stayed back at the hospital."

"My work is done there. Bojing can handle the rest. Btw where is little chilli and the group?"

"I sent them back. The case wasn’t solved anytime soon. No point in wasting everybody’s time."

"So it’s finally just the two of us~" His eyes shone. "The time I love the most."

She ignored his chitter-chatter and once again stepped in the horror house. The attendant greeted them. "Hello, Inspector."

"Hello," Jia smiled. "I want to visit the maze again. Can I get your help this time?"

"Sure. Let me guide you."

The musky and chilly air brought in a sense of unease and the enveloping darkness lay still.

They walked a narrow, straight path and took zigzag turns until they reached the point where Jinping claimed he stood. She observed the surroundings and focused her gaze diagonally at a certain point. She whispered something into the attendant’s ear to which she nodded and walked away.

"Is this okay, Inspector?" She asked as she reached where she was supposed to.

Jia kept her sight fixed on her and replied. "Yes. You can come back. Thank you."

Mingshen busied himself with looking around the maze and raising his brows with curiosity. "Different parts of the maze have a different setup, huh? Some have those pumpkins, some have those creepy trees, then those skeletons and mannequins and of course the mirrors."

The attendant took pride in his compliment, and her voice chimed with excitement. "Yes! We have one of the best horror house setups amongst all the amusement parks out there. The three tunnels concept has become really popular! And not just the setup, we have traptions placed here like collapsing walls that only add to the horror element fufu~"

Bojing had first hand experience of collapsing walls so Jia understood the last point very well.

She stopped at a certain point and looked back to where they came from. She cocked her brow for a moment and continued walking to where Yibo said he was. She checked out the place for a moment before taking a turn and heading straight towards the crime scene. It was at the left corner surrounded by walls and only one way to enter and exit.

"So Anhe was attacked here..." Jia mumbled to herself.

She stood still for a few moments and then called out to Mingshen. "Stand here."

Displeasure hung on his face. "Why are you making me stand where she collapsed? Spicy, I can sense your dark and bloodthirsty intentions."

She smiled. "You know me so well. I was just about to reenact Jinping’s part and smash your head against the wall."

Without a warning, she grabbed his head and pushed it with force.

"Ahhh!" The attendant shrieked and closed her eyes.

Just a few inches short of an impactful distance, Jia stopped and looked back at the attendant. "Don’t worry. Even if I do feel the craving of killing him, I will control my urges. He is the last person for whom I will go to jail."

"You don’t need to Spicy because my lab is ready to welcome you anytime~ Anyway, what did you achieve by almost breaking my head?"

"I am trying to step into Jinping’s shoes," she tilted her head.

I hit Anhe and now I am panicked, she inwardly rehearsed. I don’t know what to do. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

"His first instinct should have been to run away and find the exit as quickly as possible. But he wasn’t the first person to leave the maze. Yibo was. So then..."

I didn’t exit the maze, but I cannot keep sitting here for Aang and Yibo to discover me either.

"Technically, this place where Anhe was attacked is closest to the exit. Just three short zigzag turns and a long, straight path ahead towards the exit. But of course, he wouldn’t know this then. Then what would he do?"

Jia stepped out and traced her steps a little backward from where they came. She stood in front of another enclosed space that was a dead end. She entered and looked around.

This dead end had all sorts of haunting symbols, messages and handprints painted on the walls with glow-in-the-dark paint. It shone similarly to neon lights that would only show clearly when it was dark. She took slow steps looking around and as she looked at her right side, she found something odd.

She slightly bent and looked closely at the wall with a fake bloody palm print on it. She raised her brow, seeing the edges of the thumb and index finger of that palm print smudged and smeared.

I see.

Jia took a picture of it on her phone and went back to the first dead end where Mingshen was lazily leaning against the wall frame. The attendant heaved a sigh of relief with Jia’s reentry.

"Did you find anything, Spicy? Are you sure if it’s even possible to figure things out in this maze-"

Suddenly, the wall against which Mingshen was leaning moved. But he quickly pulled himself and stood steady. Jia blinked with surprise. "What was that?"

"Oh my, did this wall want to eat me up?" Mingshen chuckled. "This ghost is pretty zesty."

"Oh!" The attendant beamed and hopped forward. "Previously, I said about collapsing walls, right? This is one of them."

"It is?" Jia widened her eyes.

She pushed the wall more which opened itself into another dead end. It was a dead end between the crime scene and the one which Jia just visited with the glow-in-the-dark painted walls.

She carefully looked around for a while in the second dead end and finding nothing of importance, she turned back. In the incident site’s dead end, amidst a dried up, spooky branch with leaves covering the top of the wall, Jia spotted a small piece of fabric lightly fluttering in the air, partially obscured within the leaves.

Huh...

She secured it and smiled, keeping it safe with her.

Mingshen curiously looked ahead and recognized the path from where they had come. "We just came from there, right? Interesting."

The attendant nodded hard. "It’s of course built to confuse the visitors, but from staff’s perspective, it has its practical uses too. For maintenance and cleaning, the staff doesn’t have to go all around the maze with those long turns. They can just open these walls and get across through the short cuts. This saves a lot of time! Not all walls are collapsible though."

"I thought it was only amongst the tunnels," Jia mumbled.

A thought came across her mind and Jia visited the remaining spot where Aang claimed he was hanging around. It was seemingly another dead end. Jia stood in front of it and pushed the wall. It moved and opened up into the neighboring space.

The hazy, chaotic picture finally seemed to take a proper shape.

"Seems like you found your answers," Mingshen smiled, enjoying the victorious glint in her eyes.

"Two of them. The third evidence is a guess which I hope hits the mark."

Suddenly, a loud, ominous alarm rang outside the horror house, startling everybody.

What’s that?
