Chapter 77: Questions and answers (1)

"Sis!"

Bojing waved his hand and hurriedly paced towards her. "Boss said that the girl in the first group got injured..."

Jia nodded. "Mingshen will be there in the hospital with her."

"Yes, he texted me. Don’t w-worry sis. I will accompany you and be here to help you!" He beamed.

"You are the best, Bojing!" She ruffled his head.

Jia quickly stopped by her own group and scratched her head. "I am sorry guys but an accident took place with a girl in the horror house. I need to find out what happened, so I will have to stay back."

Wei and Li blinked while Xinyue raised his brow with interest. "Ohh."

Lanying gasped. "Oh my. I hope she will be alright."

"Yeah, Mingshen is there with her."

Ruiling pouted. "But it will be no fun without you."

Lihua nodded hard. "How can we enjoy knowing that you will be busy?"

"Jiaaaa play..." Limei and Weiyun hustled in their parents’ arms, expressing the same dissatisfaction.

"See the twins agree," she giggled and poked their cheeks. An idea then lit up within Lihua and she asked with a sparkling gaze, "Sis, sis! Is it okay if we see you working on the case? I have never seen you working in your cop mode."

She coughed and looked back. "S-Sorry I didn’t ask you all first..."

Xinyue covered his mouth dramatically. "Hawwwww. Are you taking entertainment from that poor girl’s accident?"

Lihua’s expression twisted. "Of course not! I just meant I want to see sis in her professional mode. How can I derive happiness out of someone’s tragedy? Don’t make me look like a bad person, you evil brother!" She kept furiously smacking him on his shoulder.

Wei nodded. "Lihua will never think like that."

He just let out a sneer.

Lanying showed the same enthusiasm. "Why not? It will actually be interesting."

"I am in! I am in!" Ruiling raised her hand.

Jia slightly scratched her chin. "Ah? It’s not a criminal investigation. At least, I see it as an accident as of now. I will be just asking a couple of questions to the group, especially to the three guys more because she was with them and then take Anhe’s statement."

Li raised his palm. "That will be more pleasing to watch than riding on those blasphemous rides."

Her brow twitched.

Xinyue shrugged. "I don’t mind either. Anyway, we have already explored more than half of the park. Doesn’t hurt to miss out on the remaining ones."

There was no question of Wei’s disagreement since he had already agreed in a heartbeat as soon as Lihua put forth the proposition.

Jia said, "Well, I don’t mind if that’s okay with you. I just don’t want you all to get bored."

"We won’t be!" Lihua grinned.

"Cool then."

Outside the horror house, there was a small quarter at a distance for attendants and staff members to manage the attraction and change shifts. Currently, everybody in Anhe’s group was told to gather there. The distress and restlessness floating in the air was clearly evident to feel.

Jia walked inside the quarter with the rest of the group just closely following and observing her.

"Okay so you might be wondering who I am and just took charge of the situation like that. So to clarify my stance, I am Song Jia, superintendent at Beijing’s Public Security Bureau," she showed her badge to them.

The group held mixed reactions after hearing this, discomfort visible in their expressions.

Aang frowned and was the first one to speak, "Why do we need the police though? Anhe is very careless at times and definitely a scaredy cat. She must have gotten spooked by a ghost or something and accidentally crashed into the wall."

Jia slightly raised her brow and glanced at Yibo and Jinping. "Is that what you two feel too?"

Yibo flashed a charming smile at her. "I agree with Aang. She must have blindly ran into the wall."

Lihua’s brow twitched.

Why did he smile like that?

"I think," Jinping took a sip of water, "that’s what could have happened too."

"What about her screams? You must have heard her screams and cries I believe," She asked.

Aang was about to answer when Yibo pitched in. "Yeah she was crying and shouting a lot. It was all muffled because I was somewhere far away and there were other creepy sounds and music in the background. She is really such a coward. I just bulldozed my way through the maze like no big deal," he rolled his eyes. "Everything is fake and a set-up. You must like strong and tough people, don’t you Inspector Song?"

Lihua’s brow twitched again. Ruiling leaned and whispered, "Is it only me or is that guy hitting on Jia?"

Lihua bobbed her head hard and whispered back. "I think so too! For some reason, I don’t like him."

Li sneered. "If he has even a little bit of common sense, then he will know to stop."

Jia gave him a deadpan look. "I like quiet people who only answer the questions I ask."

Yibo heard a string of light coughs from Lihua and the group, his mouth slightly twitching with displeasure.

Jia then confirmed. "Also, as you three said before, you tried to call each other when you got lost, but there was no cell network."

"Yes, that’s right," Jinping quickly nodded before Yibo could interfere again and offend her for real. He coughed. "Yibo was already out when I exited. Aang came out later."

"I see. So to summarize, you four went into the first tunnel. At one point, you got all lost in the maze, tried to contact each other but failed. Aang, Yibo and Jinping found the exit, but Anhe was left behind. Probably, she was over-stimulated by all the scary illusions and ran hard into a wall."

Aang shrugged.

"And nobody crossed paths with her or saw her even once."

"Pretty much."

Jia stared at them with an unreadable expression but which was filled with scrutiny.

Daxia bit her lip, slightly trembling. "Th-That’s so horrible to be left alone like that...Thankfully, Shilin was there by my side or I don’t know what I would have done if I had gotten lost like that..." she nervously glanced at Shilin.

"Shilin, I and Mr. Lu," it was the first time that Yong spoke, "We all were there together. You probably forgot about us."

"N-No! Of course I didn’t mean just Shilin!" Her face flushed crimson.

"Yeah you didn’t mean just Shilin or you know that Anhe wouldn’t like it. She looked already so pissed off by the guys forcing her to the first tunnel when we knew how much she was looking forward to this attraction with Shilin’s company," she shrugged.

Shilin let out an awkward cough.

Aang narrowed his eyes. "I don’t like the tone with which you said that."

"Yeah what the hell?" Yibo threw her a nasty glare and pointed his finger at her. "You talk like you are pointing fingers at us when Anhe had clearly lost the bet against us. It was a simple bet!"

Yong frowned. "Why are you feeling so touchy? Are you on periods?"

"You..." his green veins showed clearly on the back of his fist.

Jinping hastily pushed him back, urgently giving him eye contact to let it go and secretly sneaking at Jia’s side. Sweat formed on his forehead, thinking of the repercussions.

He calmed down and snorted. "As if guys get periods. Don’t take out your bad mood on us."

"Yeah, why will you understand a woman’s mood and emotions anyway?" She let out a sardonic smile and looked away.

Jinping sipped a gulp of water, sighing in relief. But Jia was far from relieved. Amidst the heated exchange of words, she felt the disturbance within the group grow bitter and bitter.

"Inspector," one of the female attendants arrived, bringing a small purse with her. "This is Miss. Anhe’s purse."

"Thank you. Is this all she had?"

"The purse looks fine though we didn’t find her phone anywhere."
