Chapter 76: Incident in the horror house

Lanying, who cradled her daughter in her arms, said, "Yeah, it’s because of the first group that the other groups in line are unable to go ahead in the horror use. All the previous groups must be out before they let new visitors in."

"I am tired of waiting," Ruiling complained.

The men didn’t have much opinion on the wait time.

Jia narrowed her eyes. "No. Something is wrong. Wait, let me check the situation."

Mingshen felt his entertainment antenna buzz and he hopped behind her, whistling merrily. Jia broke through the crowd and felt the tension now notched up even higher. The guys clearly looked stressed and confused, who were throwing hasty questions to the staff.

"What is happening here?" She asked, stepping closer.

They looked at her, slightly taken aback. Aang answered. "Anhe is still not out."

"Weren’t you all together?"

Jinping replied, clearing his throat. "The first tunnel turned out to be a maze and we soon kind of got lost along the way. Our whole group got split. We tried calling each other, but we found no network."

"Then you three somehow found the way out but not this girl Anhe yet?"

"Exactly. We cannot even reach her anymore. First, it was just a network issue but now there is no ring at all. The exit sign is already lit up which helps us find the way out. We thought Anhe would already be outside, but there is still no sign of her."

It was only Aang and Jinping answering her questions while Mingshen noticed Yibo giving him a sneer as if looking down on him.

Mingshen only slightly arched his brow at whatever stupidity going through the young man’s mind.

One of the attendants said to ease the nervousness of the next groups in line having second thoughts about this attraction. "We have sent our people to check the first tunnel. Rest assured, Miss. Anhe will be fine. The horror house is designed and certified to be completely safe for the visitors."

One of the staff workers blitzed outside, his expression clearly not displaying the same confidence as the attendant. He urgently whispered something into her ear and soon, her countenance turned pale too.

Jia observed this nervous exchange and asked, "What has happened?"

"Sorry we will resolve it internally."

She took them aside from the crowd and said, "No, I am asking if you need help. I am a cop."

She took out her police badge from her wallet and showed it to them. The attendants looked even paler now as if they saw a real ghost.

"I don’t want people getting all panicked. Tell me what has happened. I want to help you," Jia assured.

"Th-that..." she hesitantly clasped her hands together. "Our team found Miss. Anhe unconscious in the maze with an injury to her head."

Jia and Mingshen swiftly followed the support team inside the first tunnel where they saw Anhe lying on the floor face down. Her temple was hit due to which a small pool of blood was formed under her head. Trained medical professionals from the park’s first aid stations were already at the scene.

Mingshen stepped in between and immediately kneeled beside her and felt her pulse. "Pulse is weak."

"S-sir, who are you?" One of them tried to intervene but Jia explained to them that he was a doctor.

He bent near her face and looked for the rise and fall of her chest. "Breaths are shallow," he then lowered her eyelids and flashed the light from his mobile on her pupils. They reacted and slightly moved. "Pupils are uniformly reactive so there doesn’t seem to be a brain injury..."

He then slightly lifted her head, checking her injury. "There can be internal bleeding in her brain or a crack to her skull. Call an ambulance and take her to the ER right now. She will need a CT scan."

The staff quickly did as he told them and called for the local hospital’s ambulance attached to the park in case of medical emergencies.

As Mingshen took charge to stabilize an unconscious Anhe, Jia checked the surrounding area and found a blood stain on the wall just opposite where Anhe had fallen.

"So she hit her head here and then..."

She threw a look around the mazes and the mirrors with a raised brow, studying the first tunnel’s view.

"Hey let us in! What is happening here?" Aang called out.

The group of six charged their way inside and stumbled back immediately upon seeing the scene unfold before them. Daxia shrieked in horror. "A-Anhe!"

They quickly tried to surround her, but Jia blocked their way. "Please wait there."

Stupefied, Shilin tried to look closely at Anhe. "Did she hit her head?"

"Yes. The ambulance is on its way."

"Th-this is unbelievable...!" Yibo covered his mouth, feeling nauseated.

"She was just fine when we entered the maze, then how did this happen?" Jinping coughed and asked.

The faint ring of the ambulance siren grew louder which was a sign of their arrival. Jia had already asked the amusement park’s staff to temporarily close the horror house attraction and send the crowd away. The nurses quickly came in and placed Anhe on a stretcher with Mingshen instructing them on the scans and treatment required.

Jia frowned at him. "Why aren’t you going with them?"

"Why should I? The doctors in the hospital can handle it."

"I still want you to be there with Anhe, especially when she regains her consciousness. I want you to ask her questions and get to know as much as possible what happened to her."

"The other doctors can do the same."

"The other doctors are not my partners unfortunately for this investigation."

"Is there an investigation?"

"Obviously. A group goes into a horror house maze. Three come out safely, but one doesn’t. It sparks questions for sure."

"Are you secretly trying to get rid of me?" He dramatically pursed his lips.

She smiled. "Regrettably, the Goddess of Luck hasn’t blessed me with this wish until now. Get going. Call me if there are any updates."

He snorted and grudgingly joined the ambulance van with the other medical professionals. He dropped a text to Bojing and disappeared into the van.

As the area got cleared, Jia faced the group and said, "Let’s go and try to figure out what happened."
