Chapter 71: The three tunnels (1)
"Bo-Bojing!!!"
Jia took two big leaps and banged on the wall. "Bojing! Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
She heard no response from the other side. An unsettling silence owned the room. She tried to move and push the wall, but it refused to budge.
"Bojing!!!"
"Calm down," Mingshen waved his hand dismissively. "It’s one of these horror house gimmicks. Obviously, he will be fine."
She glared at him. "Don’t you know how scared he is already? Now on top of that, he just got pulled somewhere all alone. How will he handle it?"
With a jovial smile, he whistled. "He is my killing machine. He will always be the last person standing~"
"To him, ghosts are not the same as humans that he can punch and smack. I don’t want him getting a heart attack."
He shrugged. "The most he would do is cry and cower in a corner. But he won’t faint or die. He is my assistant after all~"
With that said, Mingshen ended the discussion and left to explore the trapped room, casually slipping his hands in his pockets. Jia regretfully stared at the wall and sighed.
Be strong, Bojing.
—
A few minutes before.
Anhe put every bit of her fury’s weight on to her heels which tapped loudly and recklessly within the haunted walls. She had expected some good, private time with Shilin when the guys intervened and splashed water on her plans. She had lost all interest in the horror house and just wanted to be out of it.
She kept throwing glares at her back where the guys followed her. "I am so cursing you all! Did you only have to pick this time to realize your stupid bet!"
"What are you getting so agitated for? We have the whole day, and you would get more time with Shilin," Aang said.
"Ugh, shut up! It cannot compare to the time and atmosphere here at the horror house! Use your brains some time."
Within the labyrinthine tunnel of the horror house, the first group stumbled upon a room that was a chamber of mazes and mirrors. Every step was a plunge into a bewildering illusion.
Mirrors covered the walls and ceiling, creating an infinite, disorienting kaleidoscope of reflections. It was impossible to discern where the room began or ended, as mirrored passages stretched endlessly in all directions.
As they cautiously navigated the mirrored mazes, they soon realized that each reflection was a deceptive path, leading to dead ends or looping back upon itself. They went round and round, not finding an exit. Their own reflections in those mirrors deepened their confusion.
The fume of resentment against the guys began to evaporate and fear began to creep in her heart. In one of the mirrors, Anhe thought what she saw was a reflection of a woman in white with her hair locks partially hovering over her face and a red, horrifying glow emanating from where her eyes should be.
"Ah...Ahhhhhh!!!"
She shut her eyes and shrieked in pure terror. "A-Aang! Yibo! Jinping! D-Did you see that!? In the mirror...a woman..."
She shuddered hard when a soft but chilly gust of wind skimmed past the back of her neck. There seemed to be no entry point for wind to flow, yet the sneaky gust managed to raise the alarm bells in her mind.
"Why aren’t you saying anything!?" She looked back and to her horror, she saw nobody behind her.
Aang, Yibo and Jinping were nowhere to be seen.
"Aang! Yibo! Jinping! Where are you guys!?"
She ran back and forth along the mazed paths only to get more confused and lost. "H-Hey are you playing a prank on me right now...? I am telling you, this is the worst time!"
Tears began to spill out as she continued finding a way out but to no avail. She stopped at a spot, heaving breathlessly. As she raised her head, she stumbled back hard, her eyes widening in shock.
"Y-Yo-Yong...!?"
She thought it was yet another deception the mirrors were playing at her seeing Yong’s reflection in the mirrors. But when she turned, the place was empty.
She chuckled nervously. "Y-Yeah how could she be here...? She is in the second tunnel..."
But a few minutes later, she once again noticed Yong’s reflection, her gaze and expression not looking any less horrifying than a ghost. She seemed to gaze in her eyes unblinkingly as if staring right through her soul.
Anhe’s veins pulsated with a gush of adrenaline, and she couldn’t seem to find her voice. "You...wh-why are you here again? What is happening! Yong, are you messing with me!? I swear I will kill you for this!"
Occasionally, an eerie, distant laughter echoed between the mazes, making it even more and more impossible for Anhe to keep going.
"Guys, where are you all...?" She sniffled, her voice pleading for help.
Did we all l-lose our way inside these mazes?
She kept walking in hopes of finding anybody from the guys. The ghostly screams in the air and the spooky reflections in the mirrors only added to her unease.
For the third time, she saw Yong haunting within those glasses, making her collapse on her knees. "Aaaahhhh!!! Help!"
Anhe thought she would go crazy. She felt her patience and courage thinning. Her heart beats fluctuated hard as if she would faint at any moment.
"You...a-are you taking revenge for that day? Are you doing this to get back at me?"
She got no answer to her questions. The more she was forced to be alone, the more she felt her mental capacities declining. She breathed hard, her body trembled with an urge to flee, but her legs felt jelly. Tears ruined her makeup with their wet stains. She felt hopeless and helpless for the first time in her life. The images of Yong kept closing in as if they would pull her somewhere far away.
Am-am I going to die here?
"Please somebody...anybody..." her inaudible voice was almost a hushed whisper now.
As she took a random turn, tired and exhausted, she bumped against someone. She screamed at first, thinking it to be the white ghostly woman or Yong. But as nothing happened, she shiveringly lifted her head, feeling that this was the last straw of her emotions holding it together.
As she looked at her familiar face, her eyes beamed with huge relief. "Finally, I found you...!"
