Chapter 68: Walking amongst the dead (1)
"Yang Mingshen..." Jia’s body convulsed akin to a volcano shaking just before its violent eruption. But the force of the impending danger had no effect on Mingshen.
Instead he said, pleased, "I was just wishing for us to get some privacy and look how luck played in our favor! Aren’t you thrilled with pure joy? I can still feel the tingles of being trapped in this spooky haunted house with you alone~"
"Right now my palm is tingling to trap your ugly face in a tight slap," she cursed her luck.
Why do I always get stuck with him!?
He snorted. "Spicy, cross your heart and say that you lied. The truth is that my beauty makes your heart beat go all wild and haywire. How can you associate the adjective ugly to my face?" He harrumphed as if greatly wronged.
"S-sis..." Bojing squeezed in to ease the tension and the growing murderous intent which Jia oozed. "It’s j-just a matter of fifteen minutes or so. We will be out in no t-time..."
Jia took comfort in Bojing’s presence and took a deep breath. "Someday, he will make me break the law and shoot him with my own hands!"
"Aish, Spicy~ Turning against your favorite law for my sake has such a melodious ring to it," Mingshen cast a dreamy look. "I wonder when that day will come."
As a peacemaker, Bojing walked in between them. Mingshen’s icy and pointed gaze commanded him to move aside so that he could walk beside Jia. He hastily ignored his aura and shifted his attention away which fell on a familiar face in the group ahead he had just met a few minutes ago.
"Shilin...?"
Shilin heard his name and turned. "Oh Mr. Lu? It seems we ended up in the same group."
"Y-Yeah..." he nervously shook his hands together.
Mingshen arched his brow, watching the young man in front of him with interest. He glanced at Bojing and asked, "When did you make friends with him?"
"N-not a friend really. It was his bike that I had s-stolen! We finally met!"
"Wait, so it is his bike that is occupying precious space in my lab for so many days?" His lips turned into a sneer as he tilted his head at Shilin. "So now that we have reunited with the owner, I think it’s a good time to ask for rent."
"..."
Jia’s expression twisted.
Shilin blinked. "Sorry?"
"Rent. R.E.N.T. My lab is not a garage for people to park their automobiles. If somebody treats it like one, it certainly won’t be for free," he flashed out an evil capitalist smile. "So cough out the rent."
Bojing was horrified with his poisonous words.
Boss!!! He had helped me with his bike that day and you are charging him!? That too for my mistake?
Shilin stared at Mingshen and let out a harmless smile. "My apologies for letting you down, Sir, but parking my bike in your garage - I mean your lab, wasn’t my choice. It was Mr. Lu’s so..." he faintly scratched his cheek, "Aren’t you asking rent from the wrong person here?"
A steep silence descended as Jia and Bojing stared at him with reverence.
He actually spoke against Mingshen!?
The normal reaction of a person usually in a situation where Mingshen senselessly charged people money only ended up by them lashing out at him or getting a heart attack. It was the first time they witnessed somebody not really shaken up by Mingshen’s extortion.
Mingshen rubbed his chin with a deep thought and then chuckled. "You are right~ As long as I get my money. Bojing, I am gonna deduct your salary until it reaches four hundred million."
The people in Shilin’s gang almost lost their souls hearing the number.
F-Four hundred million!? This is beyond daylight robbery!
Jia lashed out. "You monster! You are just trying to compensate for the twins’ reward and my alimony money, aren’t you?"
She is his ex-wife!?
"My lab. My space. My charges~"
Bojing furiously bowed to Shilin with his apology. "I-I am sorry on Boss’s behalf! W-we really didn’t mean to ask for any r-rent!"
Mingshen scowled. "What do you mean? I was dead serious. I am always dead serious about money."
One of the girls from Shilin’s group came forward. Bojing recognized her as the same girl who had come to call Shilin.
"Shilin, do you know these people...?"
She glanced at Mingshen and was left dazzled by his beauty. His splendor simply felt unearthly and under the dim lights, his iniquity seemed ethereal. His masculine charm was enough to sweep off anybody’s feet. When her gaze fell on Bojing, a frown settled on her brows just like last time.
On the other side, one of the guys in the group was similarly checking out Jia, grinning and smiling, which in no way did Jia find it as tasteful. Her eyes narrowed at his careless and what she would even call vulgar behavior.
"Yo Shilin, introduce us too!"
Jia scoffed.
Brats.
"Careful~" Mingshen laughed. "That interest in Spicy will only make you burn."
With the misunderstanding that Jia was his ex-wife, they figured that the ex-husband was just being salty and jealous who probably held lingering attachment to Jia.
The guy named Yibo, snorted. "Back off. You are just her ex-husband now so that makes her available."
Jia and Bojing - "..."
Why...why am I being misunderstood as this psycho’s wife for a second time in the same day!?
Wait...is it because I used the word alimony?
She closed her eyes with deep regret.
Kill me.
Mingshen’s dark eyes flashed with a glint of malice. "Oh my, I love a gutsy challenge. At least I had the pleasure of satisfying my beautiful ex-wife in bed, whereas your sorry sore thumb would find it difficult to even finger a woman to orgasm."
By that point, Jia and Bojing’s dictionaries simply had no words left to describe this moment. The group of seven stared at Mingshen in silence.
"W-what did you just say?" Yibo’s face flushed red by the sudden humiliation that crashed onto him like an unexpected harsh slap of a wave.
"Oh, did it make you uncomfortable? I have the habit of returning nastiness by a hundred fold. Don’t mind me~"
"B-Boss..." Bojing urged him to stop talking.
He anxiously glanced at the group and did not wish for a fight to break out. The girl with Shilin was already giving him distasteful looks with the guy Yibo causing a ruckus with Jia and then there was a third girl in the group with a band-aid on her cheek who seemed to be faintly smiling for some reason which made him gulp.
The other two guys quickly pulled Yibo back. "Forget it, dude. Let’s go."
They could sense that it wasn’t wise to pick a fight with Mingshen.
The girl pulled Shilin with a smile. "Come, Shilin."
Shilin gave an apologetic bow to Jia and left with his group.
Bojing heaved a sigh of relief. "I thought a war was g-gonna break out."
Jia tilted her head thoughtfully, staring at the group walking ahead. "Considering their dynamics with each other...I feel a war is already close to breaking out."
