Chapter 315: Freezing hell

Chapter 315: Freezing hell

Mingshen peeked outside from Mrs. Zhang’s flat and found that Jia’s flat was still locked. He frowned.

Spicy is not back yet?

Is she pulling an all-nighter in the Bureau?

He looked back at Mrs. Zhang, who was playing a board game with Bobo. "Can you call Spicy to ask where she is?"

She smiled. "Why don’t you call?"

"She will highly cut my call and then block my contact from her list."

Bobo sneered. "She should have done this a long time ago."

"You should worry more about your stomach than me getting blocked, brat. Who knows if you are looking for a night of a painful stomach ache?" Mingshen sneered back.

"..."

Bobo touched his belly and suddenly felt an uncomfortable sensation bubbling.

"Ignore him, Bobo," Mrs. Zhang said.

Mingshen cursed the duo and eventually dialled her number himself. It went on a for ring a couple of times.

Like I had expected. She is not gonna pick up.

Suddenly, the call clicked to life and a confusing background noise erupted from the other side.

"Spicy?"

"Hello...?"

Mingshen stared ahead unblinkingly at the voice of a stranger. "Who’s this?"

"Ughhh!!!"

He heard a muffled, painful groan from the other side.

"Ah, ah that looks so painful..." the man with Jia’s phone gasped.

Mingshen’s gaze turned even more severe. "I asked, who is this? What is happening there?"

"Ah? Oh, I am sorry! I-It’s a fight! It’s brutal, bro. Shouting and screaming everywhere! The woman officer’s phone fell on the floor during the scuffle, so I just picked it up to-"

"Where?"

"Huh?"

"Where?"

"T-The supermarket at the South block."

Mingshen hung up and headed outside in a swift breeze.

"Wait, where are you off to suddenly?" Mrs. Zhang asked, but the door was shut without any response from him.

She harrumphed. "Well, I will forgive him on account of the delicious chicken curry."

Mingshen parked his car with a rush and zapped out straight towards the supermarket’s entrance. A crowd was formed on the east side and the chaos was audible even from that distance.

He pushed his way through with people whispering and complaining about his rogue entrance. He finally made it to the front and instantly recognized Jia’s back. She was kneeling on the floor with her back slightly hunched as if she looked in pain. The similar muffled groans reached his ears again.

Mingshen stormed to her side, his gaze turning frighteningly cold with every step. He held her arm up towards him. "Jia!"

"Mingshen?" Her eyes widened.

He peered closer and found a completely different picture in front of him. A man laid on the floor with his wrists cuffed behind his back. He was curling inwardly towards his stomach, yelping in pain with his hands between his thighs.

He stared at him and then fixed it at Jia, who seemed to not have even a single scratch on her.

"What are you doing here?" Jia blinked once.

Mingshen ignored that question and instead asked, "...What happened here?"

One mother stepped out from the crowd. "He is a thief! This man was shoplifting. My daughter caught him stuffing things in his bulky jacket and then he got all violent! He even took out his knife to hurt her," she sniffled. "Thankfully, the officer was nearby and she subdued him."

A young man whistled. "It was crazy! It was so difficult fighting in these narrow aisles between all the shelves. He had almost had her at one point but then came a knee jab straight at his balls and oof..."

"I could feel it man..." Another wiped his forehead. "That must have really, really hurt."

The thief proved it by letting out another painful groan. He gasped breathlessly. "You...bitch..."

"Call me bitch all you want but aren’t you a bastard too for trying to hurt an innocent child?" Jia coldly said.

"Sh-She is not innocent!"

She sneered. "Yeah, sure. Anybody catching you in the act is the culprit, not you."

"L-Let me go! I won’t do it again!" he begged.

"And I would have considered giving you a chance had you not pulled the stunt to hurt a child. So yes, you are heading straight to the bureau."

She dragged him to make him stand that made his gaze dizzy with stars circling around him with the pain shooting between his thighs. She handed his custody to the team of local officers who had just reached the supermarket too. The crowd began to disperse.

The mother came forward and held her hand tremblingly. "Thank you so much, officer..."

"Thank you!" The little girl hugged Jia by her legs.

Jia smiled. "Of course, it was my duty. You don’t need to thank me."

She bent and ruffled the girl’s head. "You were very brave today! I am proud of you."

The little girl blushed. "Sis was cooler."

Mingshen was about to speak when a man cut him. "O-officer, this is your phone, right?"

"Oh yes. Thank you so much!"

As he handed her phone over, he asked while sweating, "You must have a very possessive boyfriend, aye?"

Jia looked at him, stumped. "Sorry?"

"A man had called while you were dealing with the thief. I had picked up your phone when it fell so I received the call. He-he didn’t speak much but man his voice felt like..." he shuddered.

"What about my voice?"

The man froze and looked up in the direction of that deep voice very slowly. He suddenly realized Mingshen’s bludgeoning presence and dark gaze which made him question himself as to why he didn’t feel it sooner? It was impossible to miss the chill.

"Y-You! It was you on the phone!"

"What about my voice?" Mingshen asked with a raised brow.

"Haha...I will take my l-leave..." he turned and bolted away with lightning speed.

Your voice felt like I was dropped straight to the freezing hell! And I didn’t even do anything! He cried.

Jia blinked questioningly.

Why did he run away?

She felt a hand on the top of her head that made it turn to face the devil. Mingshen leaned closer, zooming in on her face.

"What are you doing?"

His pupils swiftly moved in silence that scanned every nook and cranny of her face. His gaze traveled downwards to look for any signs of any injury, but he didn’t find any.

"Mingshen?"

His forehead suddenly dropped on her shoulder as he exhaled a breath.

Her eyes widened. "Mingshen?"

"Sshh."

Jia frowned. "What are-"

"Sshh."

"..."
