The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love
Chapter 313: Not pity

Chapter 313: Not pity

Jia shook her grip from Mingshen’s wrist as they stood at a distance from the Zhuo mansion’s gate. She growled with extreme displeasure as they were now out of listening distance.

"That was totally uncalled for! Dreams as paralyzed as his body? Do you understand how derogatory that is?" Her gaze burned with a fire of fury.

Mingshen had his hands in his pockets and didn’t look too bothered.

"Say something! I am talking to you."

"I don’t have anything to say," he shrugged.

Her teeth gritted further with annoyance.

"You are impossible. A man with frail health has to live in a wheelchair for his entire life. Did you really not feel anything when you said that - especially in your position as a doctor? Is that how you talk to every invalid person out there?"

He stared into her temper-laced gaze.

"Do you see me as that kind of a person?"

"What other kind of a person should I see you as then?" Her gaze darkened. "I can clearly feel some animosity between you two. I am not aware of what happened, but did you really have to go so far in humiliating him?"

"If you don’t know what animosity lies between us, then how can you judge if I went too far?"

She looked at him in disbelief. "You think...that a man who is already bound by a wheelchair deserves to hear that he is not at liberty to dream either? With a body that is already a slave to his health, you want to snatch away what little freedom he has too?"

He smiled wryly. "I recognize that look in your eyes. It’s easy to have a soft corner for people like him. Have seen it happen in my hospitals all the time."

She stared at him grimly. "You think I am pitying him?"

"I don’t blame you, Spicy."

A seething chuckle escaped her lips. "It’s really unfortunate that a prestigious doctor like you cannot even understand the difference between pity and basic human decency. I don’t pity him, Mingshen. On the contrary, I commend the dignity with which he is willing himself to live through a fate that is forced upon him."

A glimpse of something undecipherable flashed in Mingshen’s black orbs.

"...There are others too who are willing themselves to just get through the day."

Jia peered into his eyes in silence.

"Yang Mingshen. If it was that insufferable for you to meet Zhuo Syaoran, then why did you even accompany me here? I was fine to go by myself. You tagged along on your own accord, so why do you think you have any right to get frustrated for something that you decided yourself?"

He didn’t respond.

"It’s like this every single time. You barge into my work and my space, but instead of making things simpler, you either do not cooperate or insult people the rest of the time. Today, you crossed all your limits. If this is how you want to keep acting, then by my guest. But I won’t be able to work with you anymore because I have had enough now," she said with a cold gaze.

She turned and took one step away when she looked back.

"Do not follow me this time. Though we came here together, it doesn’t mean that we have to leave together too."

The weight of Jia’s anger and her increasing impatience with Mingshen was evident with how speedily she left his vicinity. This wasn’t a simple banter anymore.

Mingshen silently clenched his fists inside his pockets, watching her leave.

Yeah I really shouldn’t have come here...

Mingshen took his own sweet time and by the time he reached the apartment complex, the sky was already dusky with the evening’s color. He reached his floor and stared at Jia’s flat with an unreadable expression.

Mrs. Zhang passed by him just then, returning from her own shopping spree. She immediately noticed Mingshen’s somber gaze.

"Weren’t you all so jolly just this morning? Why is there a one-eighty degree change in that happiness?"

Mingshen turned towards her.

"I fucked up today. I want to be sorry but I am not so sorry at the same time."

She grimaced. "A classic predicament of the whole male species on this planet."

He tilted his head thoughtfully. "Good point."

"Are you in the mood for some green curry chicken?"

"You are making some?"

"No, you will be."

"I thought you were inviting me for dinner."

"Where does it say that a guest cannot cook the meal?"

So Mingshen had no choice but to become her chef for the evening.

"Grandmaaaaa!" Bobo came rushing to hug her.

"Ah my cutie Xiaobo," she chuckled.

A bright grin lit on his chubby cheeks but it instantly faded when he saw Mingshen step in.

"Grandma! Why is this evil doctor here!? First, he bullies my Lihua and now he is bullying my Jia too!"

Mingshen sneered at his audacity.

"It’s sis Lihua and sis Jia for you, brat."

"A devil doesn’t get to teach me!" he flared his nostrils.

"I should actually. Your boring classes will be worthwhile."

"The kitchen is that way, young man."

Bobo looked horrified. "Why is he cooking for us today?"

She smiled. "Because he is lonely and your grandma is tired."

"I am not lonely."

"You ruined your welcome dinner you were fantasizing about having with Jia, so yes, you are lonely. Now shoo. We are starving."

"Evil doctor, don’t you dare put poison in it, okay?" Bobo seriously warned.

"I find extra chilly to be more entertaining for stimulating your tear ducts," he jeered.

"..."

Mingshen went to work and draped an apron around his waist. As he unpacked all the ingredients on the kitchen counter, Mrs. Zhang asked, "So how did you ruin your dreamy dinner evening with Jia?"

He paused and looked back. "I want to concentrate while cooking or I don’t want this brat to accuse me of any shadiness."

"Don’t worry. I am looking, so you keep talking," she smiled.

Mingshen furrowed his brows for a moment but eventually shrugged. He gave a crisp version of his plight.

Mrs. Zhang heard everything from A to Z and couldn’t help but twitch her brow.

"Yang Mingshen. I don’t like crocodiles."

"Excuse me?"

"I don’t like them because I know they can hurt me."

"A logical concern."

"So I won’t be stupid to approach a crocodile myself and then complain if it bites my leg. That’s what you did."
