Jia couldn’t believe the conclusion she reached. Just yesterday, she had met her in the mall where Mrs. Lai was happily talking about her granddaughter’s birthday. Now, she was here dissing on that same girl and wishing she had a grandson?

"Huh..."

Mingshen, too, recognized her voice because he had listened in to their conversation yesterday. He couldn’t help but sneer.

"And then people say that my heart is black," he looked at Jia and smiled. "Well at least I don’t pretend that it’s white. I don’t even pretend that it’s grey."

He arched his brow, sensing that Jia felt rattled a bit from her body language.

Jia knew this wasn’t the time to think about how the conversation had gone down or how she had felt about it last night, but she couldn’t help it. Mrs. Lai’s snide, cutting words poked her heart back and forth as if trying to break down the iron wall.

"Is she someone you know?" Mingshen asked quietly.

Jia clenched her fists. "No. Why would I?"

"Then why do you feel so confused?"

She quietly coughed. "I am not confused. I am just shocked by what she said. I cannot believe she would discriminate against a granddaughter being a woman herself..."

Mingshen frowned. He knew she wasn’t being truthful.

But the mission was at hand and neither could openly dwell on it further.

The leader on the stage shook his head. "My sympathies, dear. I understand how hard it must have been for you."

Mrs. Lai sniffled. "My daughter-in-law is doing whatever she want and she is teaching her child to do the same!"

"That is why we are all here. We must be the ones to guide them back to their rightful place, to lead them with firm but gentle hands. In this way, we bring peace to our homes, strength to our communities, and order to the world. It is our duty to ensure that women remain within the bounds of their true nature where they can flourish as they were meant to."

The leader crossed his hands at his back and began slowly walking towards the edge of the podium. He was about to speak when the same teen hitting on Jia raised his hand with vigor.

"I agree with you!" He voiced out loudly. "If girls know what they are supposed to do then they won’t be such bitches about just some harmless flirting!"

Jia’s mouth dropped.

He is bringing the subject of me rejecting his advances here and even cursing me?

Mingshen felt an urge to clap. By this point, it was getting harder for him to control his urges to not exhibit his disdain and poisonous words that generally cut people into half.

He smiled at Jia again. "Seems like the elbow dislocation threat wasn’t so effective for him. I like cowards like him. My mind bursts forth with creative and imaginative ideas to show their error~"

"She was clearly seducing me with her bold clothes and makeup and when I just talked to her, she flipped! She was acting all defensive and playing hard to get," he gritted his teeth. "Even more obnoxious is her husband who almost broke my wrist!"

Hm, I should have skipped the almost part and broken it anyway, Mingshen contemplated.

The leader smiled. "Troubled boy, why don’t you come up here?"

"Who is this man?" Huo Tengqi quietly questioned Meng Rin.

Meng Rin felt weak in her knees as she trembled. But she still held a sliver of hope that he might understand her.

Calm down. Just calm down...You are not at fault here...

"I don’t know. I really don’t know, trust me. I-I just came here to rest for a bit but saw this man sleeping on the bed...I think he came to the wrong room by mistake. I tried waking him up but he was too deep asleep...!"

He smiled and took a step towards her, making her slightly jump. The darkness only added to her anxiety.

"Why are you getting so defensive, Rinrin? Unless you are really not innocent."

"W-what?"

"You suddenly wanted to take a break so you come to your room and a man just happens to conveniently be on your bed? Then I come here and ask if you are sick but you tell me you were changing," his eyes narrowed dangerously with a feral hint, "Changing after sleeping with this man?"

She stared at him blankly. "...I d-don’t even know him."

"How should I trust you? You are so anxious like I caught you red-handed betraying me."

Her face paled. "That’s not true...! I really don’t know who he is!"

"Then why are the lights not working? Everywhere it is. Only your room suddenly happens to have a problem? Or maybe there is more to it?"

He took alarming steps towards her and she stumbled back until her knees bumped against the bed.

"Rinrin, what am I not giving you that you would lie and cheat on me like this?"

Tears pooled in her eyes. She didn’t know how else she was supposed to make him trust her. "P-please trust me...I am not r-related to this man in any-"

"Lies!!!" He exclaimed harshly as his hand grabbed her throat, almost strangling it.

Meng Rin soon felt the lack of oxygen and pain erupted where his fingers dug into the skin of her neck.

"You think I am some toy you can play with!?"

She couldn’t clearly see his eyes but she could imagine how murderous they would be looking right now.

"You are MY fiance and yet you have the nerve of bringing strange men into your room and..." he kicked against the bed with the weight of all his anger in it.

Meng Rin jolted and a moment later, burst into tears. Her heart trembled hard with fear.

Huo Tengqi’s gaze darkened seeing her so close to the bed where the man slept so he forced her back slam against the opposite wall. A dull pain gripped in her back with the impact. The extreme fear and helplessness made her nauseous. She sobbed in silence, knowing that this wasn’t going to end well.

Suddenly, she felt a huge shadow quietly creep from the bed’s side. She blinked her tearful eyes and as she looked past Huo Tengqi, her lips parted in utter shock. A giant, towering figure of a man stood quietly behind Huo Tengqi.

"Why the hell are you acting dumb-"

"You kicked the bed," came the giant man’s deathly quiet voice.
