Chapter 239: The She Gathering Arc (9)

Back in the Clover hall, the man standing at the center of the stage, who Jia presumed to be the leader of this cult, started the gathering with disappointing news.

"Unfortunately, I have heartbreaking news to share. You may not be aware of this but recently a young teen girl, who was the daughter of one of the troubled couples here, lost her way. Despite the teachings, she went ahead and hurt her parents."

The silence that brewed in the air was visibly shaken a little.

Jia focused on the man’s voice and thought that she might be able to figure something out, but he was clearly using a voice changer.

Not only was his face hiding within the mask but his voice too.

"It’s a sad affair really. Her parents are so distraught. Mingling and mixing with boys in this age, having boyfriends..." he released a sigh.

Jia stared at the leader’s masked face. He straightaway batted to Ehuang’s case. Her fists clenched in response.

One of the men sitting at the far side, questioned. "But didn’t she happily give up her femininity for the sake of the greater good? Why would she get tempted now?"

"This age is very sensitive in reality. She let herself get brainwashed by the boy despite knowing that such feelings are an abhorrence. Instead of focusing on studies and dutifully serving her parents, she let them down."

Jia was speechless. She looked around and noticed that everybody sadly nodded their heads as if a crime had occurred. The more shocking thing was that even women were a part of this.

The same man in the audience expressed his discontentment. "I...I have suffered a similar setback!"

The leader was taken aback. "Pray tell."

"My sister ran away from home..."

Everybody burst into shocked gasps.

"I did everything according to our teachings. I just wanted my little sister to be happy...But she betrayed me by having shameful premarital relations with my best friend. Not only she betrayed me but made my best friend break my trust too!" His voice slightly choked at the end. "Where did I go wrong...? Sh-She wasn’t supposed to feel this way when she has, just like the teen girl, happily given up on her femininity."

That earned a reaction from Mingshen. He stared at that direction the man was, trying to make sense of the situation.

Jia ever so slightly bent her face closer to him where her whispers were only meant for his ears. "Am I misunderstanding what he just said or...does he really mean that what happened to Ehuang happened to his sister too?"

For the first time, even Mingshen felt he had no answer to give her. It only sank Jia’s heart further.

This cannot be true...

Her worst fear was turning into reality where not just Ehuang but many unfortunate girls could have been the victims of such a horrendous crime.

Another man raised his voice. "My wife cheated on me. Seven years of my devotion and trust and returns it with betrayal...I-I don’t know what to do..." he broke down.

Another man seemingly in his twenties from his figure exploded in indignation too. "My long-time crush played with my heart too! She knew...she knew that I was interested in her but she purposely made me dance around her fingers acting as if she likes me too. She gave me all these signals and then one day comes and says that she is engaged!?"

The leader on the stage sighed. "Please be calm. I understand your anguish and that’s why we gather. Look at what this society has become. It has forgotten its natural order and lost its way. The women among us, yes, they have their place indeed, but that place is not where they have been misled to believe."

Jia’s gaze darkened.

"We are told that all are equal, that the lines that once defined our roles should be blurred or erased. But I ask you, does this bring harmony? Or has it led us to chaos, confusion, and the erosion of our true purpose?

They are nurturers, supporters, the quiet strength behind our actions. But when they are pushed into the roles of leaders and decision-makers, what do we see? Division, conflict and the loss of moral clarity," he shook his head.

Mingshen mockingly whispered. "So basically he has issues with independent women."

"The more women are exposed to the outside world, the more their innocent hearts get corrupted. The more they try to stand as men’s equals, the more destruction follows. But it is not their fault. They should not be weighed down by the responsibilities that were never intended for them."

Jia’s fist was ready to punch a hole in the man’s face. Only if the mission wasn’t at stake, she would have already done it. She understood the purpose of this cult.

It gathered similar minded men who suffered - or they thought that they had suffered - some injustice from a woman. The leader would manipulate their thoughts, brainwashing them to believe that women should be oppressed. That the fight for equality was all just a delusion and against nature’s order.

From the audience, a woman timidly raised her hand. The leader gave her a welcoming smile. "Yes, my dear. I believe you are a new member here, correct?"

She nodded with a hint of awkwardness.

"Welcome. We are very glad to have you join us."

Everybody clapped.

"So tell me. What is it that troubles your heart?"

The woman nervously cleared her throat. "A-after hearing the stories here, I feel a little more courageous to share my own struggles..."

Jia stiffened.

That voice...

"Yes, please go on. We are all here to listen and help each other," he smiled.

The woman began sniffling. "It’s...it’s been very hard these days. I always insisted that my daughter-in-law should take care of the house. My son is more than enough to earn for the family. But it’s like a ghost took over her! She wants to earn her own money which is so detestable. Because of her job, she cannot even make a one time decent meal for me. There is nobody to take care of me...

And then...and then it’s so hard to connect with my granddaughter. I wanted a grandson but fate was very cruel to me. Day by day, I just see her becoming more and more like her mother! Arrogant and abrasive!"

Jia felt her ears buzz as her mouth slightly dropped, aghast.

Mrs. Lai...
